Gracie Gold set to return

I just have one question: exactly what the HELL business is it of ours to know who helped Gracie? Why does that matter? Someone (or more than one) helped her, which is wonderful. Why can't we just leave it at that?

I think sometimes our sense of entitlement about what access we should have to skaters goes a little overboard. And if that ticks you off, so be it. This was a very rough, personal time for Gracie. And she has the right to keep it personal and not share it with fans. Sorry, but this doesn't come off as "concern" to me on the part of quite a few people here, it comes off as gossipy nosiness.

I agree. This is more of the "Fans know best" meddling that I see a lot on here. it's as if we are entitled to tell these young people how to live their life... And then if it turns out to be someone a poster doesn't like I am sure the 'motives' for helping will be "well it just was to get Gracie out of the way so she could advance" After all FSU is full of posters who only treat skaters with kindness and pixie dust (And if you believe this statement I have a bridge for sale)

Good grief, people, relax. The sky is not going to fall in because a few fans wanted to know which skater did a nice thing for another skater.

YES. THANK YOU. Of all the things to get bent out of shape over.

Hell, I'm curious as to who did something good, and in effect took a chance that it could have gone wrong. It was brave. But heaven forbid anyone wonder who the brave skater was.

You read it your way, I'll read it mine. I agree with @Carolla5501 here. Forgive me if I didn't see it just as "aw, I wanna know who it is so I can heap praise on them."

Yes. It MUST have been for a sinister purpose. How stupid of me not to see it.

No-one is saying you're stupid. We just don't agree. And considering how bent out of shape people are getting over me bringing this up, I'd say my point is being made.

You're right... it couldn't possibly be to the super self-righteous tone of your post.

My bejesus good grief sakes. ;) What is this? A U.S. senate confirmation hearing? :duh: :soapbox: :COP:

I guess it ain't possible for us to 'go gentle into that good night'* of this new season. :drama:

My hole body is pulsing with rage at the moment, never have I seen such a moment in all my time on this sight then the nerve of people saying they want to know who would of helped Gracie.

The USSFSA are bastard people, that is the only thing every one agrees on but the things about Gracie, I am going to turn off the light bite my pillow as hard as I can and pray for good ness to return to the universe.

As to whom could of helped Gracie, I think the list is pretty clear my wife and I discussed it while waiting for our crustless dump tart's to finish. Here is what names case up:
Dick Button
Ross Miner
Max Aaron
Keegen Messing
Coach of Keegen who's hair is long and nice
Phil Hersch
"Dave" Lees
Michelle Kwan
(by the way Tonia is NOT on the list!!)
Dick Button
Kurt Hamilton
Oxsana Buyule
Yuruzu Hanuy
Timothy Dolensky
Grant Hochstien
Mary Lu Retton
Jennifer Robinson
Star Andrews
Alissa Czinny
Kexin Zhang
How Zhang
Dan Zhang
Dick Button
Sasha Trusova
Marai Nagasu
Tom Zacharaicheck
Surya Bonalee
Tessa Hong
Yazmeen Bleeth
Candace Cameron
Kirk Cameron
Rudi Galindo
Meaghan Duhammel
Terry Gannon
Bryan Boitano
Karen Chen
Nathen Chen (NOT Karen's sister nor husband, witch was a suprise to my wife and I)
Min Zhang

There is a at least 75 percent chance it is one of the people on that list, I am pretty sure of it.

You know if we wanted to watch 'Waiting for Guffman' we would just do that instead of reading your posts...The whole persona/bit was a lot funnier when Christopher Guest did it 23 years ago when the film was first released.

Hi Max, I don't know what your saying but if you think I quoting a movie from 20 years ago it seems to me you are quoting a Simpsons (horrible un christian show by the way) witch began in 1989 making it 29 yrs. old. I put Waiting For Guffmann into google and it is from 1997 making it 21 years old not 23 thank you.

I forgot a name to the list above Catherine Zhang!

I think people will react in kind to very personal posts being made demeaning the type of people they are. For some people it really was innocuous curiosity and they aren’t pushing it any further after expressing that initial curiosity and it’s other people who keep bringing it up and making it a much bigger deal than I think most intended. I think Maximillian’s post was great because he explained himself and I actually get where he’s coming from. I thought it was over, but now people are being accused of being horrible people. Ok the word horrible wasn’t used but that was the gist. Ok so it may be gossipy and maybe some people are living their creepy fanfiction dreams, but I think most were simply defending themselves and explaining their actual intentions. If you’re going to make a fight out of this and try to call people out then people will respond back.

I take it you aren't familiar with the concept of a homage?

You are so right!! I would have to think it was Dick Bottom (he has always been VERY receptive to others and usually winks at you when he's in a playful mood!)

As for Karen and Nathan, whew I'm just as confused as you are! I keep for forgetting that Nathan is not her brother because Nathan's brother is Patrick, a wonderful skater from Canaduh. Karen is also not to be confused with Peter Open-gourd's wife whose sister is Nancy Kwon!! I'm exhausted just trying to make scents of it!

We all look alike.........

We actually are all alike, as DNA has revealed. :P

Humanity just can't keep up with the exhausting conundrums, so we resort to carping and fingerpointing, or persona plagiarizing. Down the rabbit hole we go... Oh wait, what thread is this we're in?

Attempting to move back toward the subject...

Speculatively, if the video was pulled because Gracie has made a commitment to give an "exclusive" to say an NBC show like "Today" or "Dateline" it would seem to indicate to me that she is very committed to competing at Rostelecom. And while that could be a great inspirational story, it also could lead to more pre-competition pressure and hyped expectations which may not be met in the deep ladies field that will be there.

First or last in Russia, I hope Gracie comes out of it satisfied and happy with the steps she is taking to recover.

I saw the interview.

Why does everyone have their knickers in a twist?

I bet the stoppage of the interview here was because there is a Skating Magazine article (a USFS membership magazine, so not applicable to how many non-American foreigners on this board?).

And to me, some of the things being talked about here were most definitely not the thrust or focus of said interview.

As I said upthread, Gracie seems to me to be in great shape mentally:

I give Gracie so much credit for coming back to skating on her own terms. Just when we all thought she was so down and out that we were all telling her what to do, this interview shows she is clearly back and on the right track full force. She is so intelligent and mature. I wish nothing but the best for her in her athletic career and beyond that wherever her life may take her. She really does seem to have her head together, not that it wasn't always all there before, but now she seems to no longer be distracted. I predict she is going to do well in both skating and her life's choices.

But I bet she would want us to talk about her present and future and not her past.

So, can we find something/someone else to talk about for the next month, and whatever it is, can it be more specific than all of this very random speculation?

Oh Stasi, I could hardly sleep last night because I could literally feel your pain. Their are bastard people in the USSFSA and in the Navy you always talk about. You've choked on your words more than once when describing the myriad toxic seamen you encountered there that left such a bad taste in your mouth. But you should not let them infect your hole life. Your wife understands that there are so many bad seeds out there and she will not let them invade or enter your personal space any longer. There are plenty of moral christian men like you who can just take it on the chin and let it all rub off. I have loads of confidence for you!

Now I am thinking how great would it be if Guest did a mocumentory about competitive skating. Catherine O'Hara could be the crazy mom. Jane Lynch could be the crazy coach, Parker Posey could be the crazy skater, and Michael Hitchcock could be the crazy head of the USFSA.

I have the attention span of a flea and I just watched the entire interview and am very impressed with Gracie. Her hilarious tweets during last nationals and her honestly here = I am seriously rooting for her. Figure skating needs more real and less pwetty pwincess. Love her owning a new Gracie.
