I remember Mishina and her old partner were the standouts of 2016 JGPF but then split later because he wanted her to lose more weight and be below 40kg? I prefer Panfilova/Rylov more but I'm glad Mishina has been doing so well.

Same. I'll root for her just because of that. She does not have the typical teeny pairs girl body, but she's landing the jumps and kicking ass :respec:

I'm falling in uberdom for Khudaiberdieva/Nazarov; someone needs to stage an intervention before my love curses them.

She reminds me Bazarova. Very elegant, very good posture, can’t hit a bad position, beautiful throw jumps and struggling with side by side jumps.

Strangely enough, I like Nikita Nazarov but Elizaveta not so much. They don't make a balanced team, she always looks worried like she's going to mess up. With all the hype I thought I'd be swept off my feet by the gold and silver medalists. But I saw great acrobatics, lovely pointed toes, beautiful form and synchronized skating but not much dancing. Is this the effect of the video?

For my money the 3rd and 4th placed teams have better fundamentals and dancing skills and my goodness, Somerville is such a lovely dancer as is Fabbri. I'm beginning to understand just how difficult ice dancing is, even putting together a stellar team.

I'm looking forward to the other teams. Am I being too harsh though? Is this because it's really early in the season?

Polina Tsurskaya, in her IG, is advertising a new figure skating training programme for young figure skaters.
It is called "The Figure Skating League", and is said to be beneficial for even though skaters who are attending regular training elsewhere. The programme includes ice time, choreography and off the ice physical training, by quality trainers. Locations are Moscow and City of Ufa.

I wonder if Polina is considering coaching, full time or part time..

I liked Khudaiberdieva/Nazarov more last year, I felt like she had more varied expressions and had the potential to be a diva on ice but this year she does seem to look perpetually worried on ice at all times.

Of course not. They had the magic and the innocence that will never be replicated. I don't measure other pairs against this impossible standard. I just wish we'd see something truly magical again.

Agree. I love many other pairs, but there will ever be anyone like them.

If a pair guy can't lift 40kg, then he seriously needs to switch to singles skating.

He looks like Adian Pitkeev

Interview with Tiukova and Pavel Slusarenko
https://www.fsrussia.ru/intervyu/38...erm-i-sankt-peterburg-ob-edinili-usiliya.html
They have been working together with Tamara Moskvina since May, it was Moskvina’s idea to join their efforts. Moskvina and other coaches from her skating school (Morozov, Daineko and etc) help the Tiukovs and Slusarenko with three teams: Piluyanova/Sopot, Panfilova/Rylov and Melnikova/Selkin.

Panfilova is so gorgeous! Can she please please please learn to jump?
#lubov2.0
According to Slusarenko, she has learnt 3sal and 3loop , but it’s too soon to put these jumps into the program

Adelina Sotnikova announced that she is "taking one more season off from competitive skating", and some in the Russian Figure Skating world are not happy, saying that she keeps pulling everyone's leg, and why can't she just transfer from being an amateur to professional gracefully.

Sotnikova is no longer receiving an active skater's stipend from the ministry of sports (she still has her olympic life-time stipend ~ 550 USD/month).

Everyone but the very lazy has commented:

Sotnikova is taking another this season off and why.

Just out of curiosity, did Zagitova get the same lifetime stipend? Is it something that every gold medallist at the Olympics gets in Russia?

Yes, Zagitova will now receive a life-time stipend. Also, all olympic medalists receive a stipend, although silver and bronze are of lesser amounts, including Team Event.

Yulia Lipnitskaya is receiving a life-time monthly stipend for Team Event Gold in the amount of R-32,000. That is today $ 480 USD based on exchange rate.

Also, i am not sure if receiving 2 medals in one Olympics result in 2 stipends, but it might. When it comes to prize money, each medal even if in same year entitles that person to the prize money.

They also receive 2 one-time prizes, one National, and one Regional (where they officially reside/official address in the passport).
National Prize
Olympic Gold - $ 70,000+ USD (in this year's exchange from 4M rubles)
Olympic Silver - $ 40,000+ USD (in this year's exchange from 2.5M rubles)
Olympic Bronze - $ 17,000 USD (in this year's exchange from 1M rubles)

Regional Prize ~ average (amount varies by region, based on regional economics)
Olympic Gold - $ 40K to 57K USD
Olympic Silver - $ 20K to 35K USD
Olympic Bronze - $ 15K to 20K USD

Plus cars, apartments and other prizes. For example a skier who won 2 silver medals in Korea this year, received a total of $16M rubbles worth of money and assets, totaling $ 280,000 USD.

Reposting this question from Marta about the junior dance team of Kazakova & Reviya just in case someone who reads this thread might have heard something. I think they were training in Russia?

Not sure where to ask this, but does anyone know what is going on with the Junior Ice Dance team skating for Georgia Kazakova/Reviya? I haven`t seen them yet on any entry list for the JGP. I was really impressed with their skating during Junior Worlds.
