I got the impression last year that Fabian was their main coach - OK, well, I know Igor was the head coach, but Fabian was always with them at every comp along with Igor. So it doesn't surprise me they are still working with Fabian - I guess they'll live at least part-time in France?

I think it would be difficult for either of them to get released because of the money invested in them.

Right.

On a purely rumor-based speculative level, though, France & Russia could swap athletes. There is another French/Russian partnership in the rumor mill right now. France could get Drozd and Russia could get Novoselov. Or vice versa. (I'd take the vice versa myself, but most people aren't me).

Lot less competition to make it to Worlds via France (for either a pair or a dance team). The hazard of being a young guy signing up to switch into France, though, is that if it doesn't work out or your partner gets injured, you may not get out or have many options looking ahead. It's a big risk. And probably worth it for the right partner. But you can't know the future when you're starting a new partnership.

Nah, Abashkina is cute but Lena is the bizknees. So I do hope that since this season is a wash for Drozd, let him and her have an extended tryout as they travel around the world. They both like to travel. Then they should settle with Zhulin and use choreography from whomever they choose. The drama would just be epic. But I could see Lena and Sarah and Pavel being the best of friends. Okay, that's my dream ice dance pairing for Russia right now. Don't you judge me too harshly now. :fan:

EDIT: Does anybody have a video of the first RDs from the Minto Skate competition? Please and thank you. :)

I think he is still at Novi for a while longer.
He has moved all his stuff back to France. He might spend time again in Novi in the future but not as a permanent worker and resident.

About Abashkina : she always wanted to skate with Drozd. I'm amazed that she finally managed to get a try because it was certainly not a given only a few months ago. She was lucky but she has the determination and the tenacity of a fighting bull

What's going on at Novi? Chock/Bates jumped ship (maybe others?) and now Fabian left. The Detroit camps have been decimated it seems. Krylova left DSC and Pasquale lost Hawayek/Baker. Marina only had the Shibs left and they are taking the season off (at least) and Massimo (who she needs) has left. I'm obviously only talking about "name" teams as I'm sure they all still have ice dance teams they're developing or coaching. They really should combine their powers into one super ice dance team but that would mean Igor and Marina putting the past behind them and I don't know if anybody could trust Marina again after what she supposedly did, though she herself felt betrayed.

Novi will be fine, I think. Igor and Pasquale should be a powerful combo, and they still have name teams to work with: Carreira/Ponomarenko and Nguyen/Kolesnik (favorites for the junior world team), in addition to their other junior teams. Marina isn't necessary there, and Igor would be a fool to invite her back.

I'm not sure who Marina has left domestically. If Lewis/Bye are done, then she doesn't have any American teams with even JGP experience, AFAIK. But the hot training camps tend to go in cycles, so there's no reason to think she couldn't come back.

Wow, I've seen a few RDs, M/C and P/P. Is it just me or are the technical requirements of this dance, very high? It seems to me that the juniors moving up to seniors will have a very challenging time indeed. This year is for established teams with the goods to make a move. I hope the other programs are more interesting though.

Igor has a very promising junior team though, can't remember their names right now, but the USA and CAN will be offering some stiff competition to the world in this quad and beyond. Wow.

I think Marina will be lucky to have a team who finishes in the top half of an event. Novi has a couple of promising teams and a couple more to watch. I'll be interested to see how C/B and H/B do and how they like not being team 1 or even 2.

Has it been confirmed that Igor and Pasquale teamed up permanently? I know I saw a recent IG post from Kaitlyn Weaver showing her and Andrew working with both Pasquale and Igor before going back to Morosov, but I didn't know it was totally confirmed already.

I don't think Igor or Pasquale have officially confirmed it, but it seems pretty clear. I guess we'll get real confirmation when their teams update their ISU bios for coaching info.

Didn't Krylova say in an interview that Igor and Pasquale were working together now (when she also said that Pasquale would help with choreo for her teams in Russia)?

I also think that C/P confirmed somewhere that Pasquale and Igor did both of their programs together. And both had dance teams at Skate Detroit and not Lake Placid (according to a poster - I don't know all their young teams).

I found that interview: (google translate quote) http://www.fsrussia.ru/intervyu/373...tej-ikh-nuzhno-tolko-pravilno-realizovat.html

Pasquale Camerlengo will come in the summer and help our group, because our joint concept, our work in America had a good result. Now Pasquale started working in Detroit together with Igor Shpilband. He's a good director, it's evident from the programs that he put to many leading figure skaters.

I don't think it has been officially confirmed, but at this point it seems pretty clear that they're working together for the foreseeable future. Krylova said so in an interview, Carreira said they worked on their new programs together, they've been standing at the boards together at competitions and a friend of mine who went to Skate Detroit saw Igor, Pasquale, C/P and some official sitting down after the FD to go over things together. Also a number of their young teams have taken to calling themselves Team Dovi on instagram(a mash up of Novi and DSC, I presume). So while they don't seem inclined to make an official announcement at this juncture, I believe we can take it as a given.

How did M/C and the Parsons look in the Rhythm dance? I love both of them.
Btw, I'm glad Nazarova and Nikitin left Igor. They were more interesting under Zhulin programs wise, but the tech wasn't there. Which is why they went to Igor, and for sure they looked more clean but the choreography was just meh. They deserve better. I so want them to have a breakthrough.

Yup. They weren’t getting along. Again. Looks like he’s teaming up with someone else.

That’s kinda funny seeing as his last few instagram posts are very sappy tributes to how wonderful she is and how excited he is for their future.

What happened with him and that Danielle Thomas anyway?

Where did Massimo go? I always loved seeing him on the Shib blogs.

Marina only had the Shibs left.

She had both Muramoto & Reed and Reed & Ambruvelicius, who are apparently still together. I don't know if they are staying in Canton or still considering their futures or if she might even be thinking of retiring or redefining her career. But I think we can wait and see what happens.

Igor has Carreira & Ponomarenko, and as long as that is true, he has a stake in the future of U.S. ice dance.

I think breathe a little and wait for the post-Olympic dust to settle. And for heavens sake, let's not keep dragging up the past. This is the beginning of a long quadrennium. Give it two years and see how the dance world shifts. I'm having a very hard time envisioning all of the dance teams currently flooding Montreal staying there. Some will find it's a good match. Some will likely find that they aren't climbing the ranks and will move on or get out all together.

And there are some interesting developing dance camps on the scene. Svinin & Zhuk and Wheaton are a couple of them with multiple competitive young teams. Maybe Massimo will start coaching on his own. Maybe Krylova will become a factor in Russia. Gosh, you really never know. The next great dance coach could be someone we've never heard of who missed the FD at Junior Worlds. (Speaking of which, I was scrolling through the results from 93 Nationals today, and there's Galit Chait in 12th place). You can't know who will have an impact. We just get to watch and see. I feel pretty good about the future prospects for ice dance in the U.S., Canada, Italy, and Russia. It takes a really special gift and a different skill set to be a great coach, but ice dance today is so much more international than it used to be. It may still be trend-driven; but there is so much more expertise out there now. A nice range of athletes that have come through quality programs over the past decade.

Thanks for the post, but I understand all of that as I pretty much recognized they're not completely decimated in the post you quoted. I'm just saying as of right now, it seems there's a big shift in power and people have jumped ship from the former powerhouses without the same volume of teams/coaches replacing them. Nothing I said was predicting anything happening two years from now much less four years from now. One can observe what happened from 2014 to 2018 or almost any other Olympic cycle to know what a foolhardy thing it would be to make absolute statements about the future.

Marina and Igor will all survive. DSC will also. Ice is limited in Asia, Europe and Russia in the summer months. Many coaches come to the US and work at these 3 clubs. Marina is well loved and respected in Russia and they send teams to work with her.
Marina told me years ago, she wanted to go back and work with the younger kids. Mold the future talent.
I think Fabian can only work so long in the states before having to go back. I heard Massi went to Chicago with his SO. Speaking of Fabian, Nat got married last month. She looks very happy. Her little girl is adorable.
