The only casting that was more :rolleyes: was the actress they found to play Queen Elizabeth II. It’s like they found some random 75-80 year old actress - and didn’t bother to carry herself ANYTHING like her.
 
There were a lot of inaccuracies and over-dramatizations in the movie, to be expected with this type of rushed production. OTOH, there were some interesting and entertaining scenes based on actual quotes from interviews and possibly true reports, plus some things pieced together from Meghan's past articles, her former website and her Instagram.

The fact is both of the actors, though pleasant and photogenic, pale in comparison to the real-life couple and their actual true romantic love story. The Pippa wedding reception scenes were particularly inaccurate in specific details as well as chronology. But oh well, the real life story is much more juicier, sexier and special than anything paid scriptwriters could throw together. It wasn't completely bad though. It was fun, while at the same time a bit eyebrow-raising in the inaccuracies of many details and depictions.

The whole real-life drama surrounding Meghan's Dad, has unfortunately overshadowed more tidbits about wedding day details. In the aftermath of Mr. Markle apparently co-operating with a pap in bonehead fashion, he has now pulled out of the wedding (more likely he was kindly asked not to show up). Such indiscretion is frowned upon by the royal family, understandably. All of the details are unclear. Maybe it was a set-up, but her father willingly accepting money for staged photos is excruciatingly inappropriate. The mention of a heart attack just sounds like an excuse. Perhaps the attention would have been too much for her father anyway. Maybe he never really wanted to make the trip?

I feel sorry for Meghan for her father letting her down, but she's likely taking it all in stride. Will her mother or Prince Charles now take on the honor of walking her down the aisle? Maybe her friend Markus Anderson? Or her best friend's husband, Ben Mulroney?

First, why is taking money for photographs “excruciatingly inappropriate?” The photographers and various publications are going to make money from the photos, why shouldn’t the subject of the photos? He sold access to himself. It is not as though he lured Meghan out and then had her ambushed by photographers.

Second, I really hope she has her mom walk her down the aisle. The idea that it has to be a man is just incredibly sexist and insulting to her mother. I will add unless, of course, her mom doesn’t want to do it for some reason.

Right, to be absolutely honest, a lot of entities are making money off this romance, including the British economy. However, it seriously does not look good for the father of the bride to be blatantly profiting from his connection to her, especially not a few days leading up to a British royal wedding that will be watched around the world. You do realize that it's not something the Queen or the royals condone. Meghan is marrying into an ancient institution and into a different culture, no matter how stuffy.

At this point, it's difficult to know exactly what's going on. There are now reports that crazy half-sister Samantha is taking credit for having her father participate in the pap photo opportunity. Markle Sr is also said to have been admitted to the hospital. Another suspect report claims Meghan pleaded with her father to still walk her down the aisle. I'm not sure what to believe about the dicey Markle side of the family. It's sad if her father was taken in and just made a wrong choice. I think there is obviously a lot unknown about the family rifts and relationships over the years. I doubt that Meghan's father attended her first wedding either. The public whining and carrying on by the half-siblings is embarrassing in the extreme.

From everything I've read (having followed Meghan's story since November 2016, and having followed the British royals for many years), I feel there's a lot going on. The public will not be privy to every detail. Suffice to say that Meghan clearly has good reason not to trust most of the Markles (and that's likely mainly why they haven't been invited). Even on the Ragland side, her mother's older half-brother sold photos to the Daily Mail after the engagement announcement. Seemingly, Meghan is closer to her Suits family than she is to her actual relatives.

ITA. I also don't think Prince Charles should be the one to give her away as he is no relation to her other than an in-law. It'd just look weird. It's a shame her father's side of the family seems so messed up. I fear there might be some other cooked up drama from them the day before or even day of the wedding itself. It's like they're determined to ruin her day just out of spite. Sheer malice. :(

It's unfortunate that the late Princess of Wales's former medium/psychic or whatever she is has also decided to weigh in, throwing shade at Meghan 'from the beyond' as it were. Stupid woman.

Oh I never thought of it as “giving her away” for exactly those reasons. More that she would want someone walk down that long aisle with her. It is a long way to go in a long dress and high heels! I just object to the idea that it has to be a man. My understanding is that she was raised by her mom without much help from her dad. It seems to me if someone is going to walk with her it would be her mom.


ETA: I also think all the fuss about what the Royal family and specifically the Queen think is just hysterical. The Queen has been around a long time and seen a lot of scandals. This doesn’t even make the needle on the scandal mètre jiggle! Yes, I am sure it is distressing for Meghan and it would have been nice if her family could have got their $hit together to support her for one day, but compared to what many current and deceased Royals have done, this is nothing!

I agree @SHARPIE. The half sister claiming responsibility for their father posing for pics is clearly a slap at Meghan. She knew their father would be mortified at possibly embarrassing Meghan and would look to pull out. The half siblings are doing everything in their power to try to ruin Meghan's day and what better way to do that by trying to stop their father going. Horrible people.
 
Tbh though (it's a bit cloudy in Zante this morning so I have time to muse on this) what was Prince Harry thinking? He hasn't met the guy at all and was expecting to meet him for the first time this week just before poor Thomas has to perform like a seal for the World's Media.

I was wondering why Meghan hadn't arranged a meeting prior to this week. Is the area of Mexico where Thomas lives dangerous and there was a worry for Harry and Meghan's protection visiting him there? Or are the half siblings continually in attendance and Meghan didn't want them involved in the first meeting between her father and her husband to be? It's not as if she couldn't afford to pay for her father to come to the UK earlier than this or even to somewhere in America away from her half siblings!! A bit weird really.

The half-siblings have certainly "milked" their fifteen minutes of fame.

I guess what I'm loving the most is that this time around I won't be in ICU. With William and Kate's Royal Wedding, I was still hallucinating some up until the day they got married. My room had a TV, and the Nurse's station was just to the right of my room. They kept that TV on all the time just to keep up with what was happening with William and Kate. That's around the time that the J.G Wentworth commercial was shown over and over again, and suddenly, J.G. Wentworth and friends were right in the room with me singing that horrible song! I guess you could say it was like "Hallucination Gone Wild!"

This time around, I'll be able to watch the royal wedding in the comfort of my home without hallucinations, and no J.G. Wentworth! Talk about being happy! :cheer2: :biggrinbo

Sounds like so much fun! I will be doing same thing as I did for William and Kate's wedding. Up while it's still dark, scones into the oven, then settle in front of our biggest tv in my jammies, remote in hand, a spread of sandwiches (on a tiered stand of course) and Devonshire cream and other goodies on the table in front of me, my best china for tea. Once the vows are exchanged, out comes the Moët & Chandon :)

What is everyone else doing??
 
Latest I'm reading is that he wants to come, but health may still prevent it. He's apparently been in the hospital recently with serious heart issues, and it's a really long flight not to mention a stressful event even under ideal circumstances.
 
I read a great tweet yesterday that no one should be shaming Thomas Sr for staging photos as Princess Diana was a pro at getting just the perfect moment captured by the Paps that were her "friends" to bolster her image.

I hope he is able to make the trip but if he indeed has heart issues, I can't see such a long flight being a good thing.
 
In fairness, I don't think it was just Diana. The royal family has always made themselves available on a limited basis to photographers, giving them photo opps even during private events, in an effort to control it. Give them something, and then they leave you alone. In theory.

Agreed. It's like people forget that the biggest scandal (abdication) already happened to the Royal Family.

The father could have easily come over the border to San Diego to meet them—Coronado would have been discreet and no problem for security. He drove over the border just week, stayed at the Rodeway Inn, and then drove up to LA to put a pot of flowers on Doria’s doorstep, and then drove back.

The border crossing down there is horrendous and would be a logistical nightmare for anyone super high profile like Harry and Meghan to cross over and back, for the father, no.

As for the half siblings, the half-sister lives in Florida and is in a wheelchair because of MS, while the half-brother lives in Oregon. (It’s his exwife and two sons that just showed up in London with masses of luggage).
 
^^ Oh my. If he's still hospitalized he definitely won't be able to travel to London. Meghan has always had positive and loving things to say about both of her parents and they both truly supported, nurtured and encouraged her, and gave her a wonderful upbringing. That's the reason why she's been able to soar in her own life. She's a very strong, savvy and remarkable person. Her friends, Harry, and the royal family are solidly behind her, so I'm certain she will be fine. I hope the wedding day dawns bright and happy for everyone.

Hopefully her father will fully recover. I wonder if perhaps they might have been better off trying to get ahead of things and send someone down to Mexico to help her Dad through this transition (fend off paps and tabloid journos), and see to his health needs prior to the week before the wedding. But that's in hindsight. It might have been nice too, if Meghan and Harry had been able to secretly visit her Dad in Mexico or another location prior to her father's residence in Mexico being leaked to the paps.

I am remembering how in the past it's always been a no-no for anyone connected with the British royals to be indiscreet. But in this situation, apparently the royals are being understanding and sympathetic toward Meghan's Dad, I suppose. Of course the posed photographs situation is rather harmless, but I still think it's inappropriate and embarrassing if done for money. Obviously, it's mainly embarrassing for Mr. Markle, since it was clearly a set-up by the paps and tabloids.

The royals are completely supportive of Meghan. She's already fully a member of the royal family and very much appreciated by everyone in the family who's gotten to know her. She has brought so much happiness to Prince Harry, and I think they both will do wonderful things together. Indeed, there have been many scandalous things that have happened in the royal family in the past. No family is immune to problems. My earlier comments are mostly related to the fact that the royals are very discreet about their private lives in connection with tabloids trying to get information or write about them in a bad light. In fact, some years ago Prince Edward's wife, The Countess of Wessex was caught up in a situation where she was set up by people she worked with. The royal family did not blame her, but she ended up having to stop working professionally.

Harry and William will do everything in their power to protect their spouses and their families to avoid the hounding that happened to their mother. Also in that respect, I am sure they are sympathetic to Mr. Markle having been taken in by the paps and the tabloids.

Does Meghan even have a relationship with those awful people? Her parents divorced when she was 5, and her mother raised her. Those two half-siblings were already in their 20s. Its not like she "grew up with them" in the same house like siblings who are only a few years apart. I've read stuff online (so who knows how accurate) that she hasn't had any type of relationship with them in years and then she became a big deal actress and they started hounding her for money. So why would they think they should automatically get invited to the wedding in the first place? And that ex-wife & family of the half-brother .... geez. With family like that I wouldn't want anyone but my mother and father their either.
