DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

Just a question that popped into my mind. What social media are you talking about? Is this from articles, other message boards, etc. I know several 'fans' including several FB friends from my area that love Mirai. I have around 474 FB friends, and not one of them has ever mentioned they didn't like Mirai. Most of them mentioned on my timeline how much they liked Mirai, and these friends were from the area where I live.

So where are these fans that don't like Mirai? Could you please provide links to where you got that info. Thanks in advance. :)

No. It happened three months ago and it would take me several days of digging to just find these post. I really don’t see the point of going so far just to prove I’m telling the truth.

If you don’t believe me, so be it. I’m never going to such lengths just prove that I’m telling the truth. I feel like I’m being ganged up on for revealing something I saw months ago.

Football player was fab. The luger who performed first was also quite good, I think he was forgotten as the evening went on. I was surprised by how good Tonya was.

Adam was clearly the best but his shtick is wearing thin.

Well, I wasn't trying to gang up on you. It's just usually when someone posts something like that, they have the facts to back it up. My point is that not everyone dislikes Mirai, and that includes me. I don't dislike anyone.

Okay, enough said about that and I really wasn't 'ganging' up on you. :)

Adam may have 499999 of those hits himself.

Wow, I’ve never seen someone so jealous of Adam:rofl:

I like Adam fine, although he’s not my favorite skater. But like it or not, he is far and away the most well-known figure skater in the US of A. All those people screaming at the SOI show I attended were not Adam plants :D And if they were, good for him.

I will not be crying like a little boy (little girls are much tougher) over any DWTS outcome, since I don’t really care. Adam and Josh both have their charms.:saint:

Of course not everyone hates Mirai. All I meant was there are some haters out there and this one of the reasons they gave.

It's always hard for me to see the athletes I've followed for a long time on a show and guess what sort of "first impression" they'll make. I can't watch Mirai or Adam and not see the young skaters who dealt with disappointment as well as success. I recall Mirai's grace in going to the Olympic send off "because it was the right thing to do" even after she wasn't selected for the team. I've seen Adam spend lots of time posing for pictures with fans and I've followed him through a variety of coaches (and hair styles).

But I know my sister is watching DWTS and she has no history or background following any of the athletes. Her whole opinion is based on the fluff pieces on the show and the little clips of interviews they air. It's interesting sometimes to compare our reactions after the show.

And even before the show started I was warning my Mom about the football player since they usually do well on the show.

Erin asked prodded her about trash talking Adam. Mirai demmurred and said first she’s focused on getting to the finals. Then she begged the viewers to vote for her and Alan.

Yeah, smiling, laughing and saying she wanted herself and Adam to be the top two and asking fans to keep them going is really “begging” and “entitled.”

My belated comments: Overall, not bad for week one of DWTS. There were a couple who were clearly at a much lower level of dance performance ( I won't name names, everyone who watched knows who they were). Mirai did very well and even though I expected Adam to do well, he exceeded my expectations. :respec: Tonya's bio narrative annoyed me, but her dancing was really quite good. And like almost every football player who has been on the show, Josh did very well.

@rfisher, I won't cry if he wins if he keeps on dancing well. He has an added advantage in having Sharna as his pro partner -- she is a very talented choreographer and a popular pro who has yet to win DWTS. For infrequent viewers this won't matter, but some fans of the show vote for their favorite pros as much as for the "star" contestant.

I have never said Mirai is entitled. Also, everyone begs viewers to vote for them. What’s wrong with that?

My issue was not your honesty--I don't doubt that there are people who claim to dislike Mirai because they think she is disrespectful to Tonya.

My problem is that a) that is an unreasonable viewpoint, given that Mirai IS the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics and b) while I have no trouble believing that people posted such things on social media, I don't find that particularly significant. All kinds of people post all kinds of crap on social media for all kinds of reasons. How many people are we talking about here?

I think most of the posters were confused. They thought that then media was saying Mirai was the first to land a 3A.

It wasn’t a lot of people. But the majority of people that post about Mirai are positive. But with DWTS I find that fans don’t like her for some odd reasons like bing cocky or having an annoying voice. People will always find a reason to dislike a contender.

All three, Mirai, Tonya, Adam, are outstanding dancer, almost look professional, and likely because of ice skating, etc. Kristi, Meryl, Nancy were also outstanding dancers... I wonder if it is fair to invite ice skaters to a competition where required skills closely resemble the sport they come from.... (i am enjoying their dancing, none the less).

Jealous of what
And fot the record, I couldn't care less who wins DWTS. But, a lot of posters really seem to be invested which I find amusing. I watched my one episode a season so I'm good.

I think it can be argued that they are just kinesthetically gifted, like the football players, gymnasts, and professional dancers ... Maybe their upper body movement is trained.

... It is interesting to note Tonya never was really a professional athlete or performer. She was just an amateur Olympic Eligible Athlete almost 25 years ago that was only known for her jumps and backwoods ways ... And still was good in comparison to some current athletes :p

Surely someone paid her for a lesson at some point along the way. That makes her a professional.

She's been skating on her own for a while now. Her old coach has been helping her and everything.

I doubt she did the half-time skating at a hockey game, the boxing match, or the singing appearance(s) for free. She may not have had an lengthy professional career, but she almost certainly made some appearances as a paid performer.

Those sound dreadful ... Do you have links :EVILLE:
