Duhamel/Radford retire from competitive skating

Oh, you are really one to talk (especially about going “batshit crazy”). LOL And I would not pay any attention, so feel free to. With all of his accolades, any criticism falls on deaf ears. Many hundreds of thousands of deaf ears. So you and what’s-her-face twilight can criticize away! Lol

Yes, I'm batshit crazy and well aware of it. However, I'm not an asshole who goes around into retirement threads and starts talking shit about the skaters. Retirement announcements, however long expected, always suck for the skaters' fans. You could at least try not being a prick about it and letting them have their space.

Remember the "ignore" function is your friend. Also, don't feed the trolls - they may shrivel up and die without attention :D

I'm looking forward to cheering loud and long for D & R at CSOI on Sunday :cheer: :cheer2:

So Im always bewildered at the comments of people who say they were never a fan of their style...

When I think of top Canadian pairs.... Brasseur & Eisler, Sale & Pelletier, Underhill & Martini, Dube & Davison and Duhamel & Radford... to me.. they mostly all have the same style (maybe not Underhill & Martini) ...powerhouses that excel in skating. Not the Russian balletic lines.

To the people who dont care for D&R do they also not care for most other top Canadian pairs?

I love Canadian teams... I like the Russian ballet style too but D&R (and B&E) are top notch teams!!!!!

I can not reply for anyone else of course but for me the answer is : NO, I also didn't care much for any of those teams.:D

B&E and U&M are waay before my fandom years so I have only watched a few videos and was never impressed, specially the former who I thought were wuzgifted on some of their major medals.

S&P were indeed like a proto D&R but they never moved me (although I do I admit I have a slight bias against them since the SLC fiasco).

Dube & Davison I did like, probably my fave CAN pair so far and their 2008 worlds bronze performance was a real beauty but I think they were more leaning towards the sappy/romantic style rather than powerhouse skating. After that, their strugles to remain on the top were sad to watch.

Obviously, you want or need your opinions to be read in this thread about Meagan & Eric's retirement. You wouldn't keep on reading in this thread if that wasn't the case. Your ears don't seem to be deaf to that fact whatsoever. I think we can understand that you wanted response to your negative opinions and you certainly got that.

But as far as anyone criticizing away, there's no need to. You've done enough criticizing to last a lifetime and into the next century. Carry on, and do have a wonderful Friday. :D

Agree or don't with her - Meagan speaks her mind and it's rare in figure skating. Skaters are NOT PR machines.

I was never the biggest fan of D/R's skating - I thought it was really good, really athletic, I just prefered other teams in particular. However, they pushed their sport in the Technical side and that is great, and needed.

One thing I was surprised about : I came to really appreciate them during this Olympic season. She has an absolute crazy mindset, one of a champion.
I like that she's vegan and yet so fit, muscular and promoting health. Any vegetarian/vegan athletes should go to her for advice on a very good diet, she's found the right recipes.
She's not afraid to say how dumb it is to receive high scores for bad elements, even quoting her own records.
She is cheering for everyone because she is the biggest figure skating fan on the planet. When Canada got Team Gold I was obviously thrilled for Patrick, but for them too : being a 2-time World champ, I liked that they got a gold. I'm pretty sure she's the one that came up with a plan for Canada Gold at the Team Event after Sochi.
She's caused controversy about doping vs Russia but truth is, she was not wrong. Now as a FS fan, I did not want russian skaters to stay at home. But she stands by her statements and anti-doping is wrong.
She'd make a great technical coach, but I could see her higher ranked... pretty sure she wants to run ISU. She might do a good job.
I will buy any books she writes about goal settings, hard work and dedication, being driven to win, etc. I need that sort of motivation in my life ; everyone does.
