Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir #48: Long Time Running

Regarding the remark about Tessa and Scott's WR being overtaken this week, do figure skating WR scores even count for anything anymore? It seems anymore there is a new WR in every competition. It's not like when Torvill and Dean got straight perfect 6.0s and it stood as a record forever. We know they did it, they know they did it and I suppose that's the important thing.

The world records seem to be broken every year. Yes it's awesome for the skater but it will continue to go up vs the old days there really wasn't much room for a team to score records except to award 6.0's. It doesn't bother me at all.

Weapo holdin it down for ice dance while tessa and scott do their thang. That's all I have to say about the horrendous scoring in this joke competition.

I said I would stop watching ice dance without Tessa and Scott and I actually did. It feels great! As long as the judging stays the same and they keep pretending a certain couple is so much better than the others, I will stick with pairs and following VM in their professional career.

Their radio interviews were great! Scott was amazing on their last two TV interviews but he feels much more authentic in these Canadian interviews with people he seems to know pretty well. Tessa is always such a pro. It was also cool to get some longer interviews. I kind of wish they would do another skype interview with TSL. There is always a lot of criticism towards TSL (which I agree with most of the time) but I still listen to their vm interview every couple weeks.

Oh, and was this photo posted yet? Scott doing some modeling! He looks great!

Did anybody catch this during the coverage? I haven’t watched any worlds coverage but pretty cool they’re not there but still being showered with love http://cuteiceprincesslove.tumblr.com/post/172170514704/banner-for-tessa-and-scott-at-milano2018
Yes! Isn't that awesome? Loved and missed :)

I, however, have to say that I very much enjoyed the SD today without feeling like I was going to vomit. Giggle. Of course, I would rather they were still competing, but I think you know what I mean :)

What bothers me about the world records is that it's reflective of the biased judging. V/M won Olympics, but they were very close to not winning that 2nd individual gold after being placed 2nd in the FD, despite an Olympic performance that people are calling iconic.

I don't think I'll see another team with their combined technical skill, dancing ability, synchronicity and expression for at least a generation (if ever.) They elevate ice dance. To me, a figure skating world record means this is the standard towards which you should be aiming. Their Latin SD is exemplary, but their recent world record was just broken today by a team whose program was not as complete in content. I expect the judges to try to give the French a perfect FD score. It's a joke.

On the other hand, I have slept so well since V/M won gold. It's nice not to be so invested.

Just wondering what others think but it seems to me that the sport likes to have competition and neck and neck teams are good for business. One team or skater winning time and time again, no matter how good they are, can make fans think they don't even need to tune in as the gold medal is assumed before the skate. It seemed to me H/D had a great short dance and got great marks. Do you think other teams will see a rise in their results to challenge P/C in the next quad?

I do hope that other teams will be allowed to get closer to the French. Because at the moment when Tessa and Scott are not there, the French are only competing with themselves and even if they get ten more titles, these titles will not have the same importance in my eyes.

Sorry to burst some people's bubbles but P&C are incredible and DESERVEDLY get records.
I agree that P/C are miles above the rest of the field now that V/M are gone, and when they skate well, if others are getting, say, 115, they do deserve to be several points higher. Whatever bar the judges set for the teams directly below them, they have to top for P/C plus add a gap of a few more points to show the difference in quality.

BUT, that being said, I also think that the WRs that P/C have been constantly racking up this season haven't always been deserved, and even when not getting WRs, the scoring for some of their more mediocre skates has been extremely high (one obvious case in point being the SD at the Olympics). It seems like the judges just feel like they have to keep breaking the WR with every competition.

I am kind of over the record thing. I was super pissed with their score in the SD at the Olympics because in the comp I thought V&M were clearly better in paterrn, presentation, etc in the OD and I definitely believe that if they screw up it should show in marks.

I don't want to crap on P&C because they are my fave team at Worlds but maybe record breaking is the consolation prize from the Olympics. :(

I do hope that other teams will be allowed to get closer to the French. Because at the moment when Tessa and Scott are not there, the French are only competing with themselves and even if they get ten more titles, these titles will not have the same importance in my eyes.

That honestly is beyond their control.

I don’t think anyone had biased judging. They are just two very close teams and at the end of the day they won the gold.

Scott looks so cute!! In that picture.

Attended the charity hockey game that Scott skated in last night. Well worth the $5 admission. Scott skated the whole game, as did his brother Charlie. He also stayed after the game until every person that wanted to meet him did - still wearing his skates and gear. He must have stood there for an hour at least. This was my first time meeting him, after following his career for sooo many years, and it was lovely to find him so down to earth and friendly.

The picture is of Chock and Bates, but the text is all about Virtue and Moir.
My bad. My thanks. I didn't read the text because it was a bit small in font and then when I glanced down all I noticed was that it wasn't in English. It would seem I missed what was printed in English.
Agree, gotta feel for CB when you don't get YOUR bio with YOUR photo.

Tessa & Scott will retire at the top of the rankings.

Do we know the dates for SOI Japan?

Tessa and Scott’s twizzles from Moulin Rouge was used as an example of what should be awarded +5 GOEs for the new ice dance rules. This was during the ice dance technical meeting in Milan. I thought it was nice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7tYDftWFGg&t=75m20s

That was great .. I wish we could see/understand more of how levels are achieved etc.
