@Amantide I took that to mean that they'll do more frequent testing of the Russian athletes and possibly retest all of their old samples. The reason for retesting is that technology has gotten better, but as usual they don't test literally every sample - just the medalists and a couple randomly selected athletes. They may also be looking more closely at the activity of athletes training under certain coaches in sports where Russia was most active in the doping scandal (ie. biathalon and speed skating). But who really knows? It's a pretty vague statement.

NBC Olympics has posted a list of some of the most likely medal contenders from Russia that will likely be allowed to compete (ie. no doping violations). I think there's quite a few more than they listed, but it's good to know who else to watch out for other than the figure skaters. They also posted an article of US athletes' reactions to the ban - although not a lot of athletes were interviewed for it.

In the back of my mind, I keep thinking how awful it would be to be one of those Russian athletes who did dope. I'm sure some were complicit, but I would assume just as many if not more thought they were clean or trusted their coaches/doctors/sport officials. Now they're banned from the Olympics. Not only that, but how awful would it feel that your coaches don't trust you enough to medal based on your talent and years of hard work/training, so they start to have you dope instead?

I think there referring to adequate out of competition testing to demonstrate that an athlete is clean. Either that or there talking about nothing - it's hard to figure out 'public relations' speak sometimes.

I haven't seen any posts concerning this part of the statement (I could have missed them). As I read it, there is a chance Russia could enter the Closing Ceremony as a Russian Team with flags, anthems (conceivably), uniforms etc. - a chance to be a Russian team all together. That's all IF they do everything the IOC requires of them, including the $15 million dollars. It seems like it's suppose to be a carrot along with the stick.

I wonder if there is any chance this will happen.

Paying the bills of the people who banned them? It wants Russia to pay for the Schmid Commission! Do they really think that’s going to happen? Maybe they will. Maybe Russia and putin will do Total 180. Lol. The other thing is this extreme - really extreme- screening processs for all athketes. Wada and dsfu. I say wada person on panel doesn’t vote for one Russian athlete to compete.

I remember when Bobrova failed her doping test in 2016 and certain comments have always stuck with me and may never leave my thoughts on this matter.

1. Bobrova; "Yes, I knew the drug was going to be banned in month X but I continued to take Meldonium until month Y". My thoughts at the time were, why take it at all? Why did she feel the need to take it knowing the possibilities? Strange.

2. Zhulin; "This couldn't have happened at the worse possible time". At the time, I was expecting him to say Bobrova is too smart of an athlete to be taking those types of risks with a drug like Meldonium.

I know my view will not be popular, but I believe that the IOC failed the sport today. The sanctions should have been more severe. At the very least Russian athletes should not have been allowed to participate in team events. This will be perceived by some very powerful people as only a slap on the wrist. Russia's attitude to doping and winning at all costs will be the death of clean sport and could cause irreparable harm to many athletes in the future.

If as per usual ntv and c1r could air it but right now there is no broadcaster in Russia yet. Russia always split cost three ways! It would be down to two unless they find replacement for All Russia TV

If the fans/audience wave Russian flags, the IIC can't do anything to stop that. If I was in the arena, I would wave my tiny Russian flag too.

Why would you want to wave a Russian flag? Some posters here are acting as if Russia is some poor, innocent victim who the IOC is out to get. No; Russia flagrantly disregarded the rules, and show no remorse for having done so. The state sanctioned systematic cheating at all levels, pure and simple, and it's pretty sickening when you think of the shamelessness they had.

If you want to support individual Russian athletes, then go ahead and wave banners with their faces on them. Waving Russian flags scream "I support criminality!"
