IOC's decision: (clean) Russian athletes can compete under neutral flag at PyeongChang Olympics

What about a case where a skater (skaters) representing Olympic Athlete from Russia (OAR) did a fantastic skate and fans in the arena hold the Russian flags to cheer? I don't think IOC can ban that...

If the fans/audience wave Russian flags, the IOC can't do anything to stop that. If I was in the arena, I would wave my tiny Russian flag too.

The Russian, not Russian Olympic Team is entitled to a hockey team in both the men's and women's tournaments, though at this point I'm not sure who's going to be on the men's teams as the NHL isn't allowing it's players to go, and the KHL is also considering not allowing it's players to go. I think to watch the tournament we'll all need a serious players guide to figure out who's who.

Oh boy. Why aren't they allowing the players to go?

Russian sites said a hockey team would be allowed as neutral but the doping control for khl is probably corrupted too and they aren’t properly tested so i doubt any khl players could be allowed. Probably any Russians on America or Canadian based college teams would have to be the team.

Aren't most of them playing in NA anyway?

:EVILLE:I wonder if Medvedeva could change her SP music to Kalinka and her LP music to the "Soviet National Anthem" without lyrics ... :2faced:

I wonder if a Russia Pair would consider doing a Tetris Themed set of programs.

Games in Concert - Tetris

Can Voronov change the SP and skate to this at the Oly. instead, please? :encore:

Nope. Medvedeva has Kalinka for the SP and the "Soviet National Anthem" without lyrics for the LP

Maybe Voronov can get Korobeiniki and Troika before the pairs and ice dancers can call it. They can always skate to Rach and Tchaikovsky.

Tarasova&Morozov can skate to Tetris. We have to find smth for Klibova.
Think hard and think good. They deserve the best. :saint:

In response to your hysteria? It's about as much time as I'm willing to invest.
LOL, well you could be right about that - I did get carried away. :yikes: For the record, I have nothing against the Russian skaters and I think they should be allowed to compete. It’s the drug cheats in so many of the other sports that drive me nuts.

In the end, it was no bad thing that I have missed the last 2 months in light of this nonsense. I have been recovering from sciatica, which was not helped by being injured in a road traffic accident at the beginning of November. I am finally walking again, am on the mend, and hope to have fully recovered by the end of the year.

I will be boycotting the remainder of this season. Yet again, politics ruins sport! Will probably be back at the beginning of next season, by which time hopefully all the BS will be out of the way

@Bunny Hop - many thanks for keeping the video threads going, and many thanks to those others who have contributed as well. Great job

Maofan7, it is good to hear from you. I have missed your posts. I am sorry that you have to go through such pain. I hope you recover soon.

I agree - politics ruin sport, and the Olympics are the worst in that.

Well, the NHL doesn't want to interrupt its season - or at least that's the official reason. The unofficial reason has a lot to do with $$$$$ and the fact the IHF didn't want to cover the insurance costs for the NHL athletes.

The head of the KHL, Dmitry Chernyshenko, has said that the IOC is destroying the existing world order of sport by pursuing the doping investigations and many of the KHL teams are owned by people with close ties to the Kremlin.

The Song of the Volga Boatmen as see in Nintendo video games when introducing Soda Popinski.

:shuffle: Hmmm . . . A choral version to the right dramatic pairs or ice dance team could really make something of this.

This is really....I don't know what to say or think. Just sad.
I'm thinking now that even if these skaters go and skate under OAR flag. They will be under tremendous pressure. As if they have to prove smth to both their country and the world, not to mention to themselves. I wish to the young girls especially all the best. Courage and good luck.

From insidethegames:
IX. The IOC may partially or fully lift the suspension of the ROC from the commencement of the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 provided these decisions are fully respected and implemented by the ROC and by the invited athletes and officials.

I haven't seen any posts concerning this part of the statement (I could have missed them). As I read it, there is a chance Russia could enter the Closing Ceremony as a Russian Team with flags, anthems (conceivably), uniforms etc. - a chance to be a Russian team all together. That's all IF they do everything the IOC requires of them, including the $15 million dollars. It seems like it's suppose to be a carrot along with the stick.

I wonder if there is any chance this will happen.

That seems like pretty short notice to tell everyone as the Closing Ceremony begins that the ban on the ROC has been lifted but the IOC has reinstated an Olympic Committee mid competition in the past so I guess it's possible.

There are cases such as speed skater (and medal contender) Denis Yuskov who had suspensions unrelated/prior to the state sponsored program (in his case, marijuana). I wonder what's done in those cases.
