Another talented skater the quads left behind.

He's still young and he has the right coaching so there is time. I hope he recovers and then improves. I'd like to see him do well.

I'm behind with CoC, and I just saw Tsurskaya (NHK) and Zagitova (CoC) back-to-back, and I would be :cheer2: for a team of Medvedeva, Tsurskaya, and Sotskova.

I get why Zagitova gets the tech scores, but, movement-wise, there's so much noise and extraneous, unnecessary movement.

Easily the best 'skater' out of Eteri's camp. Still, the choreo bugs me a little. She literally stood on center ice and mimed for 5 seconds before she started to skate. And that abrupt mime ending as well... Free Polina from Averbukh!

I totally agree, she is too good of a skater to stand there miming. It’s not her fault, it’s the team’s fault. Tsurkaya has great skating skills, huge jumps, her skating seems true to herself. Inhave always gushed over her. I so want her over Zagitova. Zagitova is a good jumper, with so-so skating skills. Some hate her artistry, I find she projects well and she is appealing. At CofC , She seems so slow on TV compared to Higuchi. (Higuchi is my new revelation!)
 
Miming is a art. There is nothing juvenile, cheap, tacky or unsophisticated about it at all even though fans online keep implying it is. It's a skill that some of the best dancers and actors even struggle with it. It is artistry regardless of what some fans want to think

I had the good fortune of seeing a live performance of the great mime Marcel Marceau. I agree that mime is an art and deserves respect. Skaters are often expected to act or play characters in movies or operas, so why not use a different art form like miming?

I LOVE Med, but Tsurskaya blew me away last night. I am legitimately excited to watch her. She has an elegance and refinement that I don't see so much in the others. And she's freaking 16?? Dang...

I'm really anxious to see Kovtun and his programs this year. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I have a soft spot for him and would love to see him have a few good competitions.
 
I think people would like the miming more if it didn't make people laugh so much last year and if people bought the choreography and interpretation more. I think the way she did it in 2015-2016 wasn't made fun of so much. Had she done this season's SP and LP following 2015-2016's programs, I don't think fans would complain as much about it, but she did that 9/11 LP and that girl hopscotching and jump roping to womanhood SP and the damage was done. I think Averbukh cheapened the art form last season.
 
Sorry but people were moaning about it right from the start. It was described as "cheap tactics" to cover up the perceived lack of artistry. Her skating was called childish, immature and juvenile pretty much from the moment of her senior debut and the miming was listed as a primary example of it. "She doesn't understand music so she makes these shallow superficial movements and expressions to distract."

It's easy to claim last years programs are responsible for the mime hating but criticism of her programs, or Averbukh, didn't start just last year as it was always there. People have supposedly been laughing at and getting offended by Averbukh's "crap" choreography long before Evgenia appeared on the scene although there is little evidence of either outside the online fandom.

If anyone could do it, it would be Sergei. Poetic justice for all the people who have been writing him off for years and treat him like the invisible man.
 
The first time I watched Polina´s LP it looked extremly flat, especially the first part, but at NHK it looked really good, and I love her dress. I want her in the olympic podium but mainly I hope she stay healthy so she can continue at least another 4 years.

I agree..I watched her Russian Cup skate prior to NHK and found her skating skills to be not what I had remembered of her. Glad to see she is back in performance mode when the big lights are on.
