Apologies if this was posted up thread, but I found out the film will be shown in LA and NY on 12/8, in order to qualify for the Academy Awards. Will be released nationwide in the U.S. in late-January to take advantage of the pre-Olympic buzz.

Smart marketing. The Cutting Edge did something similar but released it about a month after the Olympics. I was always impressed that they got the look of the rink right (at least the Olympic rings in the center the way Albertville had it) with the film being released so close to the end of the Albertville games.

Now that I think about it, Tonya did kind of look like Barney . . . that was in her SP costume with sleeves.

I pictured this "Barney"..... Tonya always looked to me like a Flinstones character, including body, face and costumes...

The trailer looks a lot closer to the style of the 90's TV movie than I was expecting.

The voice is a little off. Tonya had a slightly higher pitch to her voice, and it sounds like Robbie is laying the accent on a bit thick to compensate.

I'm still psyched though.

I agree casken. I thought the trailer wasn’t constructed very well. The body double for the jump was a bit too obvious as well. Margot Robbie looks good though and I’m still really looking forward to the movie.

I understand Tonya's costumes may not have been to everyone's taste but I'm not getting the body and face shaming remarks at all. Comparing her body and facial features to looking like some cartoon character is just ridiculous. No wonder girls and young women sometimes go to extremes to the point of starvation diets and cosmetic surgery. Smh.

 ... OK ... I know it's not real! ... BUT ... Robbie's skating double that did the 3Lz did a flutz.

Haha only a real skating fan would pick that up.

Well I know what we will be doing for a skating club fundraiser next year. I did it with Blades of Glory. One of the judges took his 10 year old son along and asked his dad "What is a crack whore?"

And the one side effect of this whole thing - Tonya back in the spotlight likely claiming she knew nothing. And somewhere I missed all those "apologies." Here we go again...:drama:

Thanks! Yeah, you're right. I would think they'd be able to do a better job super-imposing Robbie's face.

So weird to have CGI flutz and UR the jumps. Are we sure it isn't a combo of body double and CGI (similar to what was used in the second to last Twilight movie where they used a dummy and the actress)? If you are going to render a jump "from scratch" in the computer, why use bad tech?

Wow! Tonya has lost some weight in anticipation of the media attention.

http://people.com/crime/tonya-harding-biopic-i-tonya-skating-again/

I love how they open by saying it hasn't been an easy road for her, like this is a) shocking or b) tragic or whatnot.

I'm torn between being disgusted that Margot Robbie is "100%" on Tonya's side and thinking that she probably can't say anything nasty about Tonya without risking a lawsuit, etc. But man...Tonya did more than just "being different." "Being different" isn't what got her probation and community service and a fine and a lifetime ban.

As for why Tonya is embracing the attention -- she's never done any different. When she was doing the wrestling, she flat out said she didn't care if people watched because they liked her or hated her -- so long as she got to make a living at it because they watched.
