^^^ I assume Team Korea was meant (no Japanese skaters are competing in the Philadelphia international this week, AFAIK).

ETA:

Stephanie Ciarochi is in 2nd place and Alysa Liu 3rd ater the Adv. Novice Girls SP in Hong Kong - protocols: http://www.hksu.org/event/aofst2017/aofst2017_AdvancedNoviceGirls_SP_Scores.pdf

That's what I thought. I knew Korean skaters were coming, but the only Japanese skater I saw one the list was Daisuke Murakame.

That's for the protocols! The US babies are keeping up with the competition so far. Let's see how the FS goes.

Oh God! Karen's FS music from last season has some kind of copyright claim which has muted the audio not only on her individual Nationals performance, but also on the full NBC coverage of the ladies final group!!! :drama: :wall:   :duh:

They really have a nerve muting the entire coverage because of some 5-minutes-related audio rights claim!:angryfire We watch figure skating for the skating. No one is checking out figure skating videos in order to steal someone's music royalties!

Dang, I was kinda meh about Karen Chen (I did like her On Golden Pond program quite a bit tho) but that *huge* double axel/half loop/triple salchow? And that short program triple lutz height? That was amazing, and she has great speed and ice coverage. She's become a riveting skater now imo.

I wanted to point out that Karen had the 2-axel/half-loop/3 sal in her fp for last season, although she doubled the 3 sal at Nationals, and fell out of the first jump of the combo at 4CCs (there are some vids to be found of Karen's 4CCs fs and a secretive Nats version of her fs that are unmuted, but it's not worth looking for them). I'm incensed that we don't get to enjoy repeat viewings of NBC's coverage of the 2017 U.S. ladies final group because of one ladies program. Why don't they just mute that portion and be done with it?! Who wants to watch over an hour of muted figure skating coverage? They may as well remove the link entirely.

Some of Karen's Worlds FS performances remain unmuted, for now at least. And Karen beautifully completed the 2-axel/half loop/3-sal at 2017 Worlds, with similar ice coverage. Although, seemingly she showed even more height, energy and ice coverage on that combo in her new FS at Skate Detroit.

ETA: I corrected my axel errors

2A+1Lo+3S, not 3A lol.

Here is the link to Karen's FS US Nationals 2016/17 (skip first 2 sec of Miss Harvatia intro, the skating is right after)

Yep, thanks. That is one that I found, but I didn't want to link it specifically in hopes it would remain up unmuted. :)

ETA: Thanks for the below NBC website link to Karen's 2017 Nats fp. I was actually more upset about the muting of the entire 2017 ladies final group NBC video coverage, which can probably not be found anywhere else in its entirety.

The only lady I recognized was Starr and everyone was stopping to watch her. There were a couple other ladies practicing but I did not recognize any of them - I did ask around and no one seemed to know who they were.

In terms of men, Camden was doing a bunch of triple axels. Vincent was just getting there as we were leaving.

Maybe the other ladies were from other countries. The US ladies should be known by someone at the rink.

Karen posted a pic of her in her home rink. So I guess she's skipping this comp. With any luck, everyone else will show.

It's cute that everyone was stopping to watch Starr. Of course doing 3A's would make anyone stop and watch. I'm glad you saw Camden. Bummer on missing Vincent.

Keep us posted!:watch:

Karen is only doing FS and that is not until Sunday. I wouldn't have expected her to be there today. I assume she'll fly in on Friday, maybe not even until Saturday.

FWIW I did see a "practice ice" ticket eith Karen's name written on it but both the rink number and time were blank. I thought is was strange but interesting.

We will be there multiple times today so if I see anything interesting, i will post ot.

No. Not for 1st place.

Starr Andrews sure is creating quite the buzz. :watch: I do love her Whitney Houston LP and think her potential is amazing. Not this year though, but next quad. I think she's going to make her mark this season though and get people talking.

Hope so. I really like what I'm seeing from her!

Just curious...

Is Anna Grace Davidson still competing/training? She made it to nationals in Novice and Junior and had some international assignments (Jr. Grand Prix?) Haven't seen her at any competitions.

Also Carly Berrios or Mary Kate Mulera? Haven't seen their names anywhere recently, i.e. the "usual" club competitions.

:saint:

Having seen Kaetlyn Osmond's new short program I'm very, very, very interested to see how Karen and Ashley's SPs are received in comparison on the GP. Things are looking up. I think they could both move up internationally on the second mark (in comparison, at least the last 3 PCS marks).

Even Mirai's program, depending on how she skates... anyways, the point is that I have a feeling this season will be much different than last year towards the top. Our ladies have a shot this year (so does Japan and Russia).

All I'm going to say about Osmond's SP is that she needs to figure out the proper mood and make it look natural. Summertime shouldn't be vanilla. It's very early, so I know she'll work on it.

Osmond's SS/elements will get her the placements in the short this year, at least at this point in time. She's still a great skater even with that program.

Karen's short leaves me breathless, such a huge impact! :respec:

I think all Karen really needs (other than nothing but hit routines with all fully rotated jumps) is to make that footwork really go in character. If she could do that, that SP will be glorious.

Go Karen, go! :cheer: fly my pretty, fly!!! :EVILLE: :gallopin1 how about a little fire, scarecrow? Karen just needs to hit her short and she's going to be fine with the PCS.

Carly's father sadly passed away last October. It wasn't completely unexpected as he had ALS. Since then Carly has completed her first semester at Clemson and she's spent her summer traveling in Europe.

I think she's moved in a different direction and I wish her well.

Vivian Le is back on the ISP.

And Alysa Liu won the silver in Advanced Novices at the Asian Open.
