2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

Maybe Averbukh will capture the true spirit of Chopin in his choreography . . . by having Evegenia skate like she is in her late 30's and dying of tuberculosis . . . like a champ.
Or maybe, she can be George Eliot Sand (see below ) in the Chopin saga.

Name calling has no place here. if you cant make your point based on facts alone, you can't make it. You owe me an apology.

You gonna give Evgenia one since you went out of your way to call her unsportsmanlike and mean?

But I'll stand by it. I'd even say it to your face - once I stopped laughing. There's no way Mirai figured into any of Team Evgenia's considerations when choosing music.

Is what Evgenia does called "jumps" when they don't get off the ice? ;)

And yet, she still rotates more than Mirai does. ;)

Nagasu actually set her ISU Personal Best SP score (73.40) last fall at Autumn Classic International with her Chopin program and her score ended up as #5 on the ISU Season Best SP scores list for 2016-17 (highest U.S. lady).

Misato Komatsubara/Tim Koleto (JPN) revealed their programs in an article that I posted earlier today in their thread in GSD: http://www.ice-dance.com/site/teamkoko-a-journey-to-love/
“For the SD, we fell in love with “Ahora Quien” by Marc Anthony, which had both a Salsa and Rhumba (pop) version,” Koleto said. “Samba do Brasil” (Radio Remix) by Bellini was a placeholder for the second piece for a long time, but we never came across another Samba with the same energy or melodic intricacy. I’m so happy we gave it a chance.”
“In the SD, I want to show a strong character,” Komatsubara added. “The key focus is to be sensual, powerful, and an adult couple. We want to explain our music well with our movements.”
The FD opens and closes with two Barbra Streisand vocals from the Yentl soundtrack – “Where is it Written?” and “A Piece of the Sky”. Sandwiched between to create a change of pace is John Williams’ instrumental End Credits from the 1954 remake of the film Sabrina.

I think Averbukh is going to set the story of Kate Chopin's The Awakening to the music of Frédéric Chopin for a post-postmodern meta-fantasy. Highlights will include--

*Opening mimography expressing the conflict between societal expectations about maternity and the awakening of feminine agency as a liberatory counter-gesture (although, of course, there will be more than one gesture)

*A step sequence in which she moves into a bungalow and experiences sexual awakening for the first time in her life, which will be punctuated by a series of subtle facial twinges during her Biellmann

*The "I can skid while lifting my leg over my head" move followed immediately by a voiceover of Léonce screaming, "I'm back and I know what you did, you strumpet" which will be translated into the official language(s) of the venues in which she competes during the season; e.g. at the Olympics, it will be "나는 돌아 왔고 당신이 한 일을 알고 있습니다"

*Three consecutive jumps--two in combination--to signify her decision to commit suicide by falling into the sea (although she will not fall)

*A denouement in which she skates directly to the judges, thanks them (a meta-reference to her "River Stagnating in You" program), and then slowly crouches until she has disappeared

*Mirai Nagasu in the audience wearing a surgical mask and holding a giant sign that says, "Bitch Stole My Music!!!"

OMG, I just CANNOT. I'm like effing dying here. The whole was already priceless and then you bring Mirai into it as the perfect punctuation point.

Let me guess, it was actually an old video of Max doing the bullfighter SP footwork?

As for the quad Axel comment...right. I forgot. Max is not allowed to play or have fun on the ice. Any other notable jumper can, but not him.

Max is not, will not ever be and does not wish to be Elvis Stojko. And it's a good thing too.

It's true, though. It'd be like putting Max right alongside Jason and comparing spins. I'm not stupid enough to believe Max would ever win THAT argument.

Anyone who thinks Medvedeva's team even so much as had a flickering thought about deliberately choosing the same music to undermine the fourth-ranked American lady - not even an actual challenger for Evgenia! -is, quite frankly, a delusional idiot.

PS Pretty sure Nagasu's decision on repeating was actually up in the air officially until very recently, also. Are you suggesting the REIGNING WORLD CHAMPION should have to do a last-minute complete change of program just to not be "mean" to a skater who wasn't even at Worlds?

I wouldn't call Max Aaron a "notable jumper." It's not like he has Hanyu or even Chan-level jumps (certainly not Hanyu-level). Let's be real here.

This post needs to be put in a shrine. And I just have to take a moment to rejoice that my love of skating, my bookwormish childhood tendancies and my keen appreciation of sarcasm have all come together on my favorite message board. You are all my people!

I have never really warmed up to the violin version of that Chopin Nocturne. As a piano playing girl I prefer it for piano, and I adore Joshua Bell... Oh well. Maybe it's me just being conservative. But I have no idea why skaters have such angst against using Chopin+piano. When Hanyu did, his program gave me chills every time

That said, I believe it's a very good piece for Med, more grown up than River flows in you:scream: Her style and expression will suit it very well, what Averbukh will try to make of it is another story...

I didn't refer to Med. Only her team. I didn't call them names, i described one of their actions as mean spirited. A site like this only works if we respect/ignore others with different opinions. GS was ruined by thoughtless and unchecked vitriol - by the time I unsubscribed it was on every page. I think that since many of us pay to be here much less of this goes on. I an trying by my comments to keep it that way.

Well, last time I checked, the skater themselves is part of that team. And you called her unsportsmanlike - and that is a low accusation to make towards anybody, let alone someone who hasn't done anything wrong.

It's "mean spirited" for Evgenia to choose a piece of music someone else is using? This happens all the time and it's incredibly naive to assume that anyone other than hardcore fans are tracking every skater's programs. To be "mean spirited" requires some intent. Why would anyone in Evgenia's team have an interest in sabotaging Mirai Nagasu, of all people? Why do you think the 4th-ranked US lady would be of any concern to them? Honestly, the overactive imaginations on here are too much sometimes.

Not convinved about Hondas progam, too.
Music suits her, but hm, nothing special for me :blocjudge

It's still lot of time and I like Honda, so I keep on hoping!

Honda's program is better than Sakamoto's LP :drama: I can tell from the arm movements that she is Mihara's training mate.
