Music you have been waiting for to be used for an entirely too long time

Ragtime the Musical- Symphonic Suite (Obviously would need some cuts, but it's so pretty) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFTyC5jJVw8

Yeah, I'm a musical theater geek...

Love Ragtime!!! I was thrilled that Matt Savoie skated competitively to music from it. There was also a show in Philadelphia, PA in October 1998 called "Skaters' Tribute to Broadway." IIRC, the opening ensemble piece was the cast skating to the overture from the show. :cheer2:

It's been used. Several skaters/teams have used it in the past few years:
Hawayek/Baker, James/Cipres, Hubbell/Donohue used "Earned It"
Ashley Wagner used "One Last Night" by the Vaults
Chock/Bates used "Haunted" by Beyonce
Cappellini/Lanotte used "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Goulding
Stolbova/Klimov, Mirai Nagasu, Cain/LeDuc all used "I Put a Spell On You" By Annie Lennox
A lot of programs you mentioned are show programs. I would like to see a mindblowing competitive program that delivers a great story.

James/Cipres, Stolbova/Klimov, Cain/LeDuc were all competition programs.

My point was these were used overall anyway.

I'd love to see an older pairs team try Still from Titanic: the Musical. Might work for a short program

I must say I was slightly surprised that both of these never really caught on even in the pro/pro-am circuit that was still around post Nagano (1998-2000). My personal choice from that era would have been selections from "Wild Party".

The mention of Ragtime (the musical) reminds me that I have long thought Scott Joplin's original ragtime music is perfect for ice dance programs and wondered why it's so rarely used. Then Christopher Dean choreographed a charming free dance of Joplin's music for Manta and Johnson a couple of years ago. The editing there was a bit harsh, but the selection was great.

I am a Stephen Sondheim fan and it's always grated my nerves that only Send in the Clown, the simplest and least Sondheim-ish ballad he wrote is widely used in figure skating. However, in the past few years, Tom Dickson choreographed a Sweeney Todd program for Johnson and used A Little Night Music for Yuna Shiraiwa. They are complex and gorgeous. (I vaguely remember Sweeney Todd being used in a program some twenty years ago, but cannot remember by whom.) Now, if someone please skate to Sondheim's Passion, it would be perfect. That piece would be much easier to cut, I imagine...

I agree about ragtime! Wouldn't mind seeing some more programs set to this very fun (and danceable) style of music.

I assume you've seen Wilson/McCall's 1988 Olympic ragtime program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWO4eG_EwG8. A somewhat forgotten gem, IMO.

..Has anyone ever skated to Smetana's "The Moldau?"

I have been waiting for Moldeau (Smetana) for over a decade.

Ryan Jahnke used it . . . IIRC, as a short program either 1997 (last junior season) or 1998 (first year in seniors) or both. But not televised, so video not available.

I think I may have come across one or two lower level skaters using it since then, at a local level.

Yes, I've always wanted a Twin Peaks program. Not sure who could pull it off though...maybe Piper and Paul?

The Kerr's would be great too bad they no longer compete.

The only other team that could pull off those voids would be Piper and Paul

Has anyone skated to Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bd2cBUJmDr8
I could imagine Stanick Jeannette having had done a nice interpretation.

And the B52's Rock Lobster:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eh-_nCnmA6o (So You Think You Can Dance group number)
I'd love to see a singles short program to just this song.
Piper and Paul could do either of those. Enough quirk to suit them!

Back in the Priscilla Hill days I thought Johnny would have skated a marvelous program to Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughn Williams. It's a slow burn (and obviously you can't do all 16 minutes!) but with the purity of his technique back then he would have done a gorgeous job.

Pink Martini has some great retro music: Amado Mio is great dance music, for example.

But I'm a rock Grrrl. BOC Burning for You. Dancing Barefoot. I'm on Fire. Keep the Faith.

You get the idea. :)

I'd love to see well choreographed programs set to:

Prelude Op 28, no. 2 by Chopin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euTti9by-08

Chopin's music has been used in skating before but I don't think I've seen anyone skate to this one yet.

I have to admit though that when it comes to Romantic era music, Chopin is not my favourite. But I do really like this prelude.

Wicked, Harry Potter Hunger Games, L'arlesienne by Bizet, Jonathan Livingston Seagull (I know Rippon did it).

Nancy Kerrigan skated to "Defying Gravity" in a show we attended in Atlantic City in December 2010 - A Tribute to the Golden Age of US Figure Skating, which aired on TV in the US back then.

Shae-Lynn Bourne skated to part of "L'Arlesienne" (La Farandole) in one of the Disson shows called "Hot Ice, Cool Sounds."

The SOI cast skated to Led Zeppelin music during the 1990's. I think Stairway to Heaven was probably part of the program.
