Anything I've heard more than once. There's a big world of music, discover it skating community. It doesn't help that I loathe jazzy stuff, tangos, musicals, and medleys; that's most of the current figure skating sounds catalogue.
It seems that coaches, choreographers, and athletes reuse music far too often. Part of the issue may be costs but I suspect the bigger problem lies in skating's tendency to err on the conservative side in all things. Far too many folks fear taking a chance, and when one among them sort of, kind of does in a timid way - the unfortunate rise of Muse, for example - everyone else thinks Ooh, there's something edgy that's been tested!
I kinda blame the fans as well for this music rehash and many, many, many trips down musical memory lane. When skaters debut something a little different there seem to be loads of complaints, prompting even more repeats, featuring plenty of reused 60-90s mainstream 'rock' and musical film medleys or covers along with the more traditional warhorses. And that song about feeling in a non-negative mood that I won't name in case I summon a new hoard of programs set to it.
On a more positive note, my three favourite songs I've heard used in skating of late were Cosmo Sheldrake's "Come Along" (I swear Eva Lotta Kibus had this song at some point), Dave Not Dave's "Cold Blood" and Apashe's "Good News" (both Alexander Samarin). I didn't hate Disturbed's "The Sound of Silence" cover until it was warhorsed into the ground. Papadakis/Cizeron almost always made excellent music choices. I'll also never forget Morisi Kvitelashvili bringing us a mashup of some R. Kelly hit and Haddaway's "What Is Love" - if you're going to choose ridiculous older-modern music, go all in!
