Favorite cocktail?

I'm sitting in a bar trying to kill an hour and ordered a 20 grand punch. Too sweet. But I didn't recognize any of the cocktail names on the menu so I picked randomly. Which got me to wondering what is the go to cocktail of FSUers?

Does anybody still drink rum and coke? White Russian? Tequila Sunrise? Can you tell I haven't been out for cocktails in awhile???? :-)

French Martini, Cosmo
Lemony martini made with Lemoncello (names vary) - Lemontini etc
White wine - Pinot Grigio

for me, in an american bar (if they don't have by small chance some grappe, calvados or absinthe) there is only one other: Long-Island-Ice-Tea (double-everything).

BELVEDERE and tonic. That is my go to. Love champagne. My daughter and I would open a bottle on Sundays. Makes the chores and projects much more fun.

Mai Tai, Old Fashioned, margarita, lemon drop

But I usually choose something from the cocktail menu if they have one. I tend to go for rum drinks first

Talk to the bartender. There is so much variation in how each place does even the standard drinks that I find the surest method of finding the right drink is to describe what I happen to want at the moment. Tall drink or cocktail, etc. Tart? Not too sweet? Herbal? Bitters? Fizzy?

And if the bartender can't describe his drinks, stick to wine, beer or gin and tonic.

Bloody Mary is one of my favourites. I dislike sweet things. The non-alcoholic version functions fine, too.

Mr. Finnice mixes the weirdest coctails. Bloody idiot (Fernet Branca and tomato juice) is one of the worst.

Singapore Sling :swoon: i make a great one, if I say so myself. My friend who had one in Raffles agrees with me.

That or a cosmopolitan.

When I want something frothy and sweet: Tumbleweed and Brandy Alexander
When I'm feeling nostalgic: White Russians
When I'm waking up(in other words Brunch): Mimosa, Bellini
When I'm freezing: Brandy and Benedictine with a coffee chaser
Current favorites: Whiskey Sour, Champagne cocktails (variety)

When I'm feeling nostalgic: White Russians

I have not had that since 1983. Seeing the name makes me so nostalgic.
And that thread makes me wanting a cocktail after hard day's work. Luckily, I have to go to yoga.

I hear you. I loved them in college and then forgot about them. And then I saw "The Big Lebowski" and fell in love with them all over again (and the film.) They are almost like the "comfort food" of the alcohol world.

oooh, I forgot Dark & Stormy - a recent favorite.

Does anyone have a favorite glühwein recipe?

In Denmark this is called Gløgg, which is basically mulled wine, like glühwein. In Denmark you can buy extract, but this is how I make it.

Take a tupperware box, or patent jar if fancy, and put in 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks, some whole cloves (like 10 or more?) and whole cardamon pods (3-6), and the peel of an orange. Pour vodka over, close and let steep for a week or so.

Heat some redwine gently on the stove, and add about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of the infused vodka to a bottle of wine. Add a tbsp of sugar or 2 so it is less bitter (should not be sweet). Add almond slivers and raisins (this makes it more sweet), serve with a spoon to scoop up raisins & nuts. If the party is more 'festive' let the raisins soak in rum or brandy the night before.

Sorry this is not exact, but everyone does it a little bit different :)

I'm doing one now that I first tried at Nobu Malibu called Grapefruit on the Rocks - grapefruit vodka, elderflower liqueur, ginger liqueur and pink grapefruit juice, plus I add a splash of club soda to cut the citrus juice, and garnish with a tiny bit of lemon. It's rather heavenly :summer:

This is perfect! Can't wait for some cold weather to make it. Thank you. :)
