Yuzuru Hanyu Cheer Thread

Thanks for sharing! Surprising that he is thinking of adding more difficulty to his programs.
Maybe it is the motivation he needs to continue to challenge himself and to reach new goals.
No mention of his injury in this interview to explain what happened in the FS.

I hope he is healing well and taking a much needed rest and to do something fun for himself.

He will never blame his bad performances on injuries. The latest news is that they saw him in Toronto in cast by the end of April. I think maybe he has been much better now and he will be able to skate and get new choreography soon.

It is great that Yuzuru is challenging himself. My concern is - is he being rewarded adequately for the difficult transitions? When I see a skater like Bo Yang Jin win a medal based on only the the number so quads, and many flawed jumps, it seems that Yuzuru doesn't need so much difficulty in transitions. All he has to do is land his jumps and of course stay healthy to do that.

Of course he is Yuzuru, so he is going to challenge himself to the Max. That's why I like him so much.

I have heard from some ISU judge and specialist (sorry I can't tell their names to public) that next season, steps and transitions into jumps will be judged more harshly. So the skaters who are still not following the rule "difficult steps before solo jumps" might not get the scores they're getting now. Yuzuru, on the other hand, will not have to worry about that issue because he already has all the most difficult steps and transitions in and out of the jumps.

I'm reading the Russian translation of the Ice Jewels Vol.3 interview and thinking whether I should perhaps translate it. Quite a lot of interesting things there. But translation via Russian is weird. :)

FaOI show organizers confirmed that Yuzuru will not attend the rest of FaOI shows in Kobe and Nagano. Yuzuru is still reviving medical treatment for his lisfranc ligament injury.

It seems we will have no more news of him in June. Hopefully Yuzuru will be healthy in July.

I am really worried about Yuzuru's injury. I hope he allows enough time to completely heal.

I am worried too. It turns out that he was badly injured right after SP at Boston. He sprained his ankle and it got swollen too badly but he still practiced so much. The issue with his injury is that there were times he could not even walk. However he kept all of that to himself and still tried to practice.
Well at least he has this whole summer to heal and rest. He never has such long summer to rest before. They say he is getting rehabilitation and on ice training little by little so maybe he is much better now. I think he can still be ready enough for GP series. But I already see that he might not do GP very well as he is late to the schedule.

I want him to defend his OGM in 2018, so I am OK if he has to skip the GP this year.

I am the same. Hopefully we will see good news at the end of this month. As for now, this was Yuzuru at age 17 when he was badly injured and he still nailed a great performance :saint:: https://youtu.be/i0bCvXHtzx4
And from that to THIS: https://youtu.be/3BoVFhJmvEU
He has gone through such a loooong way, he will go further I believe.:swoon: Still... I miss him, really. :wuzrobbed

I gathered he'd been injured for months before the Worlds, hadn't he? If his foot started bothering him right after SC, then he broke records with an injury...
It got worse in January and then just before the LP - perhaps because he overpracticed. And I'm now reading in that Ice Jewels interview that there were days before his Nationals when he couldn't practice because it was too painful.
But he still doesn't blame his failure at the LP on his injury or the ice or whatever - he speaks of imbalance between the mental and physical state.
I'm getting more and more worried about him, though I try to keep calm.

From other magazine they said he sprained his ankle after SP in Boston. That's what a Japanese friend told me. I don't have the article here with me though.

Thanks for the update, Meoima.

Glad to hear that he's declined all ice shows and also glad that he's stayed in Toronto all this time instead of going back to Japan.

Since that article came out before Worlds that described his training regimen in Japan (his mother serving as his videographer, communicating with Brian via email), I've been really concerned about him. He's an Olympic Gold Medalist and Record-Breaker -- he should have the eyes of a top-notch coach on him whenever and wherever he trains.

This is the small Part of Brian Orser's interview to the "Art Entertainment Magazine"- It was translated into Russian in a closed group and my friend translated it into English. Orser said:
"We have been discussing his participation at Nagano Faoi until the last days, but it was more of a convincing him from my side than discussion, Yuzuru's health condition was not good enough to do shows, if he came and did shows I know he wouldn't have refrained from jumping quads- you know well how he is."

So Orser locked Yuzu at Cricket Club to heal completely it seems.

There's a Taiwanese girl at CC also uploaded her Instagram with a photo she took with Yuzuru and said he's fine.

Japanese fans are saying that, Yuzuru' free skate next season is done by Shae-Lynn, and his short program is choreographed by Jeffrey Buttle as usual.

Some fans on Chinese forum read new articles and Yuzuru's new book Blue Flame II, this summary was from Chinese fans.
--------
"During season 2014-2015, after the surgery in the stomach for a while, he felt very uneasy then he decided himself to cut the treads in his stomach by scissors. He got inflammation after that (stupid boy).
....
Fast forward to season 2015-2016, before Skate Canada, Yuzuru already felt something weird in his foot. It became quite painful at NHK. Yuzuru had to stop practicing after 5 minutes before Nationals.
Yuzuru went to see a doctor to get painkiller for the New Year on Ice show. It was too painful to do just a single toe loop. At the end of January, it was painful to do any jumps, Toe loop is the most painful, but Axel, Salchow and flip were also painful. So, only the loop was not as painful.
Around mid-February, he was seriously thinking about withdrawing from WC at Boston. Yuzuru did think about replacing 4t with 4Lo. But he didn't practice 4Lo enough. So he didn't add 4Lo. Because he was in pain, so his mood at Boston was very unstable.
---------
So I am glad that this summer he has some proper rest and take it easy. He has enough time to collect himself and take care of his health more.

I wonder if he'll start taking more care of himself or if he'll go on being as reckless....

I think many skaters might have withdrawn from competitions had they been in Yuzuru's condition. But of course, Yuzuru is Yuzuru. I remember he said something like this when he was 16-17: "Pains are alright. Ever since I was in junior I had endured pains. So it's ok." Or something like that. It was so alarming and I could not get rid that sentence of my mind. I am glad that he has learned a big lesson this season. And that his team finally lock him up successfully. He is a man now, no longer a kid. He has grown up a lot and I am sure he will continue to surprise us.

Fan summed up Shirota san's recent interview for the Memorial, note that interview is taken by mid June.
From Facebook group, Translated by Angelica
--------------------------
Interview with ANA manager, Ms Shirota. From skating magazine 「フィギュアスケート日本代表メモリアル」.
It is actually 5 pages long and a Japanese fan picked out some points in her blog. I have translated her summary. Just for a general understanding.
(Note: interview was probably done around mid-June)

Yuzuru Hanyu's current situation:

For the treatment and rehabilitation of his left foot, it has changed to the form of healing while practising; on-ice practice started in early June.
"45 minutes skate, 10 minutes rest", he is slowly returning in this way.
He showed some worry that he "might not make it in time (for the start of season)", but if the state of his injury becomes well, he will get back to form.

If it progresses smoothly, he may go for a competition somewhere before GP series, however, he is also prepared that it is also fine to rest this season.
"Let's spend the pre-Olympic season cautiously," I talked about this with him.

= omitted parts about last season=

New season, competition programmes:

Now, Hanyu has to prepare programmes that will win competitors like these.

I cannot announce the name of the programme yet, but it has the opinion that "last season it was a quiet piano piece, so this time it may be better to have a complete change?", the SP including the costume will be very interesting I think.
It seems to be a work where a new him can be seen.
The music gives a similar impression as his past programme 'Hello I Love You' and incorporates a lot of upper body movements.

For the FP, starting from music selection, now it is in a good state. Including the layout, it has taken good form.

The exhibition is choreographed by David Wilson. It will become a great show number and I am looking forward to its debut.

In anticipation of PyeongChang Olympics:

For men, talk of 'quads' is now becoming 'types of quads'. It fuels his competitive spirit, but the biggest enemy is injury, and so I don't want him to do anything unreasonable.

In anticipation of the Olympics, the competition that is seen as important this season is 4CC in PyeongChang. The venue is at the same rink and the competition schedule is also similar. Hanyu is a skater with acute sensitivity, and thus I can say that it is very meaningful to have a feel of the atmosphere and ice quality of the venue, and also the climate of the place.
Because it is a pre-Olympic competition, he himself also says "let's keep looking at it' and wants to put in the effort.
