what a beautiful city - I'm really looking forward to coming. I am coming with my daughter who no doubt will want to find a way to venture into the mountains - must check that out. We have already rented an apt downtown and will just take bus or public transport to the venue - wherever it is? We are catching the train down from Paris via a night in Lyon.

My niece did her semester abroad in Grenoble and still maintains contact with the family. My impression is that the town center is WAY overpriced and the outskirts are typical suburbs with people who work in the tourist or snow sports industries. It’s neither a foodie destination nor a multicultural spot, so it’s a non for me.

I ended up booking flights and Airbnbs for both GP de France and GPF. If anyone wants to buy tickets together for the GP de France, let me know. And if anyone has info for the GPF, I'm curious also - and also up for buying tickets together.

We got all event tickets but they are different seats for each but in same block, in corner by kiss n cry on judges side

I fully agree with @Andrey aka Pushkin, Grenoble is surely the French city I hate the most. It's a hole in the middle of the Alps. Siberian cold in winter, Saharan hot in summer. The surroundings of the rink are mega ugly, the hotels adjacent to PoleSud shit holes (rooms ridiculously small and overheated, noisy, tiny parking places where my car can hardly fit, still I booked there because it's next door, like 2 mn walk), the mall closes early i.e. you can't get food in the late evening. The Grenoblois (inhabitants) are rude and cold except Kevin and his coaches , it often rains heavily in December, meaning you can't see past the top of the buildings (when the only nice thing here are the mountains above the city). Some areas aren't safe (not around the rink though) as Grenoble is famous for its drug market. As media, the mixed zone is a cave decorated with sewage pipes that gurgle constantly. You expect to be showered in crap any time. It's a beautiful feeling and the sound is so melodious! I still have on record an interview of K. Osmond where you can hear us both jump then laugh each time we are interrupted by flushing sounds. The stairs to go down to the underbelly of civilisation are so narrow you can hardly cross path with someone. The press room is actually the hockey players' gym, it's outside on the parking lot and they still haven't found a way to built a covered path. Some works have been done since the last Grand Prix de France was held there, I know that at least now we have a real press stand. I hope some more improvements were done too.

But I'll be there of course First because it's a Finale and I live less than 1 hour away. But frankly, I wish it was held in Lyon (as close to my place) or in Nice for instance (I assume @Private Citizen will agree). Except there is no decent rink in Nice at the moment (Jean Bouin, home of the Trophy, is microscopic) and none of the 2 main in Lyon is in enough good shape. After all, Grenoble was once an Olympic city (1968... Peggy Fleming and her Chartreuse dress). At least they have good food there but any decent restaurant is downtown, i.e far away.

When you buy tickets, beware of the 1st ranks with the view obstructed by fixed hockey panes. Well, glass is see-through by definition but personally I hate to seat behind those panes.

Not very cold. But wool is always better than raincoat. For now Forecast (Météo France) says from +3 C to + 11 C which is very warm for the season. But it can change...

thanks.. my wool coat is bulky but the week after I am in Paris then Iceland so might be a better choice? Will decide on the weekend before we leave in case weather forecast changes.

The weather depends so much on the wind. +3 sans can be mild compared to +11 with a strong wind from the north.

The rink is not cold. But take that from someone who loves snow camping and who sleeps in a non heated bedroom in winter - it's 12°C in my room right now Can't wait to conslut again with you!

You both will enjoy another ice person my daughter will be wearing her spring/summer red arctic coat made by local Inuit from her home. I think she might alas be disappointed how warm it might be. Maybe we can find a side trip to a mountain.

Wow you have really managed to sell this. I think the only upside here is that I'm now coming with such low expectations that they will quite easily be surpassed. And in any case the company will at least be good.
