2026 Euros in Sheffield GBR planning thread

Not particularly, I will probably fly into Heathrow and then train up a few days later! I figure I won't need a car but was wondering, hm, is this a good idea. Figure I will fly out of Manchester :)
I’m planning to fly into Manchester and take the train to Sheffield. If we decide to do something that involves anything other than the tram, I’m sure the locals will point us in the right direction for transport.

The train ride from Manchester to Sheffield goes through some beautiful scenery. Highly recommended.

FWIW when I visited Sheffield I found it very easy to get around without a car, and my hotel was way outside the city centre! Bus service was reliable, as were the trams.

You should be fine taking the train from London, I stayed 3 months myself in Leeds without a car. I assume public transit in Sheffield wouldn't be too worse.

For one of my day trips I took a train to Sheffield and then bus to Chatsworth. Not the best time of year unfortunately but would still go for the Bakewell tart. :)

Have fun everyone, wish I could come myself!

would still go for the Bakewell tart
Not a fan of frangipane but sign me up for the Full English, proper sausage rolls, several trips to the chip shops, and a Yorkshire pudding or two.

I still regret not going to Whitby and having their fish and chips!

I second the recommendation for Chatsworth. It's incredible to see one of those big country "houses" for real. Also, the current Duke of Devonshire is a big fan of modern art. Some of his collection is on display in the house, and you might think, ewww, that isn't going to work in a centuries-old stately home - but it does! It's really something to see. There's also some contemporary art that was commissioned especially for the house.

I'm trash and admit my favorite place to eat in England has been at York's York Roast Co  Not a fish fan.

And in Edinburgh, if we're expanding to parts of the whole of the UK I have visited, oh man, Makar's Mash Bar.

I like carbs, okay?!

Is anyone familiar with the Premiere Inn near the arena? That seems to be directly across from the rink, but was not in the hotel list that was circulated yesterday. Last I checked, they had rooms and it was literally steps from the arena and looked better than the Ibis across the street.

If people have some merch ideas they'd like to see, let me know! I have a list from years of reading FSU and I will put proposals forward!
Thank you so much for all the info and for passing on our views. :40beers:

After disappointing offerings at other events, my number one wish is for something for kids (T-shirt, hoodie...) that isn't just a small version of the stuff for adults. Maybe there are five year olds in the world who would wear a black T-shirt with a patch outline logo but the small people in my life would not be thrilled. They would be excited about e.g. a purple T-shirt with a colourful logo and a picture of a zamboni.

More generally, hoodies are my go to event purchase, so any kind of hoodie/sweatshirt/half zip is good for me. And if they sell an athletic top or leggings (Euros 2026 x Chique Sport collab? :p ) I'll wear that to jump my 1S< at the adult group class. If they do lanyards again, I'd recommend not white - the one from GP Sheff got grimey very quickly.

Field trip to the Olivia Smart model train shop? ;)
I love the terrier on the Boston Worlds merch and the rooster on French team merch. Any local animal (fox?) would be cute on some items.
One time I saw a rat at the arena/IceSheffield tram stop....

I stayed there several years ago when my daughter had a training camp at the arena. It was ok like motor inn, basic but had a pub/restaurant and easy parking etc. I would compare it to like a Best Western in North America. Better than a motel six but not quite a Holiday Inn, if that makes sense. A solid 2 star.

I’m not planning to go now that I booked a place for the Olympics

Thank you for this info! That will work fine for me. I am most interested in proximity to the arena and as long as it's fairly decent, that's all that matters.

That's awesome about the Olympics - I will be there, as well, for 3 FS events!:)

I haven't stayed in the Premier Inn in Sheffield, but I've stayed at quite a few PI's stretching from downtown London and Heathrow up to Dundee, Scotland. They've all been fine. The large beds are very comfortable. If the hotel offers a twin-bedded room and you book that, they'll make up the day bed (not a pull-out sofa) as a single bed, and I've found those perfectly OK, too, just not as extra-comfortable as the large beds.

I've read complaints about slow Wi-Fi if you don't upgrade, but I haven't noticed problems with run-of-the-mill web browsing. I guess you'd need to upgrade to stream video.

I've never eaten at Premier Inn. Opinions about the breakfast seem pretty divided, with some folks saying the hot breakfast is a good deal and others calling it mediocre. I think the PIs have a "children eat breakfast free" deal, which could be driving some of the positive comments.

The physical plant at every PI I've been to has been great quality for the price--they're an especially good deal in the summer when you want to book a place with a/c, but they save money on customer-service staffing. It's very difficult to get someone on the phone, for example, though when I've communicated with someone in person, they've always been pleasant.

There's a barbecue place in Sheffield that Americans should probably avoid; its barbecue is way too sweet. I've checked a map, and I'm pretty sure the place is named Smoke BBQ.

Thank you SO much for all of these helpful details!

Thanks guys, collating all the feedback. I will also be floating the idea of a transparent, arena compliant bag ;)

And allow preorder with pickup at the arena during Tuesday practices. If they offer an attractive mid layer, that will mean one less item to schlep from home!
Click and collect will be available - confirmed already with the OC.

Sheffield is the home of John Wilson blades - don't think there are regular factory visits (heard it's not all that fancy!) but that maybe is an FSU activity that fans want to organise?

As merch I would love a ceramic mug! And a textile bag.

The Premier Inn in 2012 was very basic. And now it is incredibly expensive, I think.

I've booked the Premier Inn in Sheffield City Centre (Angel Street) - 10 minute tram ride to the arena and much cheaper than the on-site one. I've stayed in various Premier Inn's around the country and they're fairly uniform, no frills but comfortable. If anyone else is staying in the city centre, it would be great to coordinate travel, particularly if there's any late event finishes.

I’ll be close by in the center, and we seem to be clustered in 116 and 118, so coordinating shouldn’t be an issue.

Do not stay at the ibis. It’s awful and more like a one-star hotel. I’ve stayed at many ibis hotels throughout the years, and this one was both the worst and the most expensive. For anyone wary about the tram, it’s fine - or Ubers are plenty and cheap. Far better to stay in the centre than at the ibis. Can’t speak to the Premier Inn.

Hi, I heard that I need a visa to travel to United Kingdom

It’s a visa waiver similar to a U.S. ESTA or other travel preauthorisation. Easy, cheap, and done online.

Any word on when single day event tickets go on sale?

And do we know the event schedule? I'm thinking of coming Friday and/or Saturday, as much to hang out with those who are coming as to see the skating . I may skip dance, especially if it's the last event, since I'm going to see dance at the Olympics anyway. I would like to see ladiezzzz and pairs since I'm not planning to see them at the Olympics.

Nothing published yet, but I think we can pretty much guarantee that the FD will be closing out the competition on Saturday evening.

All event ticket sales have been extended for a week until 7 April.
