Which event to re-watch?

Are there entire competitions on YouTube?

Most of the JGP events from the past several years, on the ISU channel.

Which ones do you recommend?

What kind of pleasure are you looking for?

For high-quality skating, JGP finals are generally better (and also much shorter) than the individual events.

Personally I like seeing the wide range of skill levels in the weekly events to get a sense of the kinds of PCS that apply to different skill levels.

You are a die-hard fan :)

I was thinking more about Nationals or Worlds/Olympics from the 80s or early 90s.

If we want to try and re-watch an old school event from the 90s or early 00s, the legendary Sk8FraSch has playlists of most European and World Championships from 1994-2000 (and several other years before and after), not to mention other events as well. The playlists are very well organized, and several of the events are nearly complete, and British Eurosport commentary (so we can still get our Chris fix).

I think I'd prefer to do something old school, might be a little bit more fun to watch something from years ago rather than an event in recent memory.

And also Hyacinth B has a great mix of full competitions (well, at least what was shown on US TV) from the mid-to-late 90s to early 2000s. Anything from Worlds to pro-ams to those fantastic cheesy pro competitions that were so omnipresent in the mid and late 90s.

Honestly, it might kind of fun to watch an old World Pros or CBS Ladies Pros.

whoa, I would love to watch a cheesy pro competition. Is there a particular one you recommend?

Growing up, by far my favorite professional competition was the CBS Ladies Professional Championships. Oksana, Katarina, Biellmann, Chouinard, Kadavy, Yuka, and Liz Manley, competing alongside lesser-knowns like Marian Kielmann, Charlene Wong, and Rory Flack. It was actually structured over several weeks, with two qualifying events in different cities and then the top 8 skaters proceed to the finals. So basically it was on every weekend.

You'd get fun, cheesy programs, but it was actually a legit competition, unlike the fluff events like Too Hot to Skate and devoid of some of the politics of World Pros. And Oksana would ALWAYS bring the :drama:.

Or just glancing through Hyancinth's vids, these look great too:
1993 World Pros (mens and ice dance) -- OMG this opening montage
2000 Goodwill Games (mens and ladies) -- the only time pros skated at the Goodwill Games
1992 Diet Coke Skaters' Championships
1994 Ice Wars -- another amazing opening montage. IIRC this was usually one of the highest rated skating events each year

So many great options.

I just started watching a little bit of Ice Wars before bed.

Two thoughts:
1. Verne Lundquist is such a pro and his love for the sport is evident. He really elevated Scott Hamilton's commentary. Unfortunately, Scott's commentary really deteoriated when he went to NBC and was paired with Tom Hammond, such a downgrade.

2. Scott mentions "first place walks away with $100,000 each". He must have meant the winning team splits the 100K, right? I mean, that's still a fantastic payday in 2020 dollars, but a little bit more reasonable than 100K each.

I highly recommend old school. I pulled out some old DVDs and was watching 1991 Worlds and also some old gymnastics competitions. It was good escapism, where I actually forgot what is happening now for a while. I’m not ready to watch anything from this season yet even though my PVR is full with competitions I didn’t finish watching.

Every weekend!

They also had skating specials during the week. I was in heaven! A few family members got a little weary after wall-to-wall skating and ice dance. Torvill & Dean in Fire and Ice, Ice Wars: Team World vs. Team USA or Team North America, etc.

The unfortunate outcome to the over-saturation that inevitably followed was people started to burn out and subsequently tuned out. However, for a glorious time, it was all about Oksana, one of my favs. Girl was riding high back then.

INCREDIBLE. I had forgotten how truly glorious Klimova's hair was.
Yes! Beautiful! Great hair envy... :glamor:

K/P ❤ Doesn’t get any better than those two together. ? They were dynamic to see live and in person. Impressive! Absolutely stunning! My ice dance fan life was made complete when they won Olympic gold.

I never tire of watching 1996 Worlds, especially for the men & ladies! Loved 2001 Worlds as well. :cheer2: :encore:

What an honor to have attended 2016 Worlds in person! :D

@alchemy void thanks for the links to all the old videos! What a walk down memory lane - I can't wait to start watching. The '93 World Pro opening montage was BEYOND :drama:  :drama:!!!!

 Tom Hammond, God bless him, tried hard, but yeah, he was kind of an oil and water commentator with skating. I actually met him and he was truly the nicest guy, but your post did make me chuckle about it though, because you’re right. ?

I an loving CBS Ladies Professional Championships.

Baiul's flying camel was a thing of beauty, and her interview with Tracy was adorable.

Josee's Lutz! WOW! And her spread eagles to end the program, what an amazing skater.
