What song are you listening to?

After having just watched the NBC telecast of the European championships, I have been humming the W.E. theme used by Medvedeva for her LP.

I'm listening to a song by a very special lady from back in the 80's. She just popped into my head for no reason at all. I'm so glad that I remembered her song! :)

This lady could do everything. She's a great singer, actress and comedian.

They Don't Know (About Us) - Tracey Ullman

Here's a live version of Minnie Riperton's...

Young, Willing and Able

For you young un's, that's Maya Rudolph's Mom. Minnie passed away in 1979 even though she was given six months to live in 1976 when it was discovered that she had cancer. Wikipedia says that she "...continued touring in 1977 and 1978, and became the national spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society's 1978–79 campaign." Amazing person to not let cancer keep her from doing what she loved and trying to make life better for others.

I was in the car, radio blasting and this oldie came on:

Well I'm a runnin' down the road try'n to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy

Bliss.

lo-lo-lo-lo-Lola!!!! by the Kinks. YouTube suggested it for me.

Their Top of the Pops performance reminded me so much of the Muppets, I looked for a muppet rendition, alas there is not one.

I had forgotten Ray Davies' sly smile...off to look for more vids!

Coldplay's "Adventure of a Lifetime". I don't care for the video, but the song is good for when I'm on the treadmill.

My son just had me listen to IQ's "Without Walls", from the Road of Bones album. Luuuurves 19 minute songs. :inavoid:
Lovely, mellow neo-prog, very nice for a leisurely Saturday.

"Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton. Stuck in my head after seeing previews of the movie. Can't stop humming that tune now.
It never fails...if I hear it...I hum it. :)

I have the house to myself for a couple hours. Tunes are cranked while I do housework....Boston, Breaking Benjamin, Porcupine Tree, Foreigner, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Parachute Club. So far I've done more dancing than cleaning!

I've been listening to Elton John today. My dad came over with the CD the first time I ever heard the song. It was around 2008. My mom had the most beautiful blue eyes. They were actually very similar to the color of Elizabeth Taylor's eyes. People use to tell my mom that she favored Elizabeth very much, and it's true. Sometimes, when I watch movies with Liz (especially when she was younger), it's almost as if I'm looking at my mom.

Anyway, I had been thinking about her most of this week and just wish to share this beautiful song by Sir Elton John.

Blue Eyes

Something about Kim Carnes came up on my facebook page and I ended up at Wikipedia reading about the song. It was written in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, the latter some of you might know from her own hit songs, What the World Needs Now Is Love and Put A Little Love In Your Heart. DeShannon didn't release Bette Davis Eyes as a single, and her original version is a bit different from that of Kim Carnes:

Here's a live version of Kim Carnes performing the song on the TV Show "Fridays":

Thanks, @PeterG I had no idea that Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon originally wrote the song. I have the old 45 of What the World Needs Now is Love. I just didn't realize that she also sang Bette Davis Eyes. Now I'm curious as to what is on the B side of What the World Need Now. I may be spending time trying to find the record tomorrow ... maybe. It's stored in one of the many boxes of records my uncle sent to my dad in the 60's. He worked for a juke box company in Ohio. He would send us the old records after he replaced the records with new ones (latest hits) in the juke boxes. Several of the records had "Disc Jockey Record or Promotional Record - Not for sale" on them.
