Once again WeaPo have been asked to take one for the team. I wonder how the rest of the team can celebrate knowing that WeaPo will probably leave PyeongChang without a medal?
OhToronto Star article implied they’re retiring. It was Rosie DiManno so who knows.
I just think they have so much potential it would be a shame if they leave now. There are not so many dance teams interesting to watch W/P is one of them. No, one more year, like D&L. Or two, because Montreal Worlds. They deserve a true Canadian sendoff, where they will be the focus of the Canadian team (even though both Gabby and Kaetlyn are still competing, but ladies so very rarely are the "Captain" of the Canadian team, for whatever reason). At least they got that SO at Nationals before their FD.

Can not agree more...Ahh, the highs and lows of the Olympics. So excited for ice dance and such a downer when it's over! But that was a great comp, and WeaPo were gorgeous and I'm so happy that they were happy with their skate. For fans of ice dance, you latch onto a team for reasons only you can figure out because always there is someone else disagreeing with you! And even though I've watched WeaPo for years, this season they just grabbed my heart and I couldn't help but be behind them all the way through the journey. They are special and whatever they decide I will wish them all the best and I know they still have a lot to give to ice dance. I would hope they stay in 2 more years for Canadian ice dance. For me, one thing is for sure, they are the most beautiful couple on the ice and they always give me such feels no matter what they are skating to. Congrats, Kaitlyn and Andrew for a fantastic year and Olympic skates! Will be sending good thoughts for Worlds!
There is still some hope. I read an article from Waterloo Chronicle and Andrew said they will "take it year by year" for now. They are definitely going to Worlds and I would imagine their results there may help them to decide. I don't completely understand what is going on in ice dance right now so these next few years will be interesting to see what direction it really is going. What I love about Kaitlyn and Andrew is that they are lyrical and yet have power. They still have room to grow in their skating. They would, however, be awesome in the show skating side of ice dance because they can emote like no other team.Their Instagram posts certainly make it sound like they are done. Which is too bad. I will miss them and feel like they have so much more to offer.
You can have the program of your life and botch the twizzles just a little bit, people will say that you deserve to score 60. It's because, IJS-wise, you need the equivalent of a jump - but to me the equivalent are the step sequences. Twizzles are very recognisable, whereas top teams will blend their step sequence so much, the casual viewer won't notice it at all. That will get you all the point though. WeaPo Pst in the SD was amazing. In my top 3 of the night. As an aside...I find it interesting that years ago ice dancers didn't even really do twizzles...well maybe one or two but nothing like the element that it is now. I mean, really, twizzles make or break a program now. They sure have become important. I wish they weren't honestly. I mean, twizzles are exciting but to me the step sequences are the money in ice dance, and then the lifts.
Looks like they changed their FD costumes or is it their SD ? I got confused. I hope it's for the FD, make it look fresher. Some pictures of this morning practice : https://twitter.com/fs_evolution/status/976046328684916736
They are canadian#2 . Piper and Paul came 2nd at Canadians due to dirty cdn judging.I hope Weaver & Poje can maybe pull out a medal at worlds. I am not sure if Bobrova & Soloviev are going, that would already bump them up to 5th highest ranked team from the Olympics (Virtue & Moir definitely arent going). With Canadian #1 backing again for the first time in awhile, and skating better than the Olympics they can beat C&L and fight with both the Shibs and Hubbell & Donohue IMO. It would take 2 great skates, but I think it is possible.
Technically maybe yes, but let's be honest Nobody has a doubt that WP are the top Canadian team going to those world's regardless of who finished where at nationalsThey are canadian#2 . Piper and Paul came 2nd at Canadians due to dirty cdn judging.
Andrew fell on the twizzle and lost ~8 points. Judges did everything they could to hold them up in the Freedance, but the twizzle loss was too much - we know you don't like Piper and Paul, but how can you call that dirty judging.??They are canadian#2 . Agree with some of this but not allLet me explain then. They lost 8 points on the twizzle. The rest of the program was far superior so the difference should have been enormously cut down in the final mark. I do not dislike Piper and Paul. I think they are really good skaters just not in the same league as W/P. Piper's skating skills are not great and there is no connection or chemistry between the 2. The person I dislike is Carol Lane who usually puts down the competition and overlooks G/P mistakes when commentating and she also has a lot of teams leaving her and the sport both before and now. She has way too much sway over Skate Canada and domestic judges.
