WEAVER AND POJE: The Future is Golden

I really enjoyed WP's free dance. But I particularly loved how fresh and rejuvenated their short dance looked with those great costumes. Their best SD outing this season in my opinion. Of course I hope they continue on for a little longer. Home worlds in 2020 must be appealing. But of course it's a lot of work to keep training.

Toronto Star article implied they’re retiring. It was Rosie DiManno so who knows.

No, one more year, like D&L. Or two, because Montreal Worlds. They deserve a true Canadian sendoff, where they will be the focus of the Canadian team (even though both Gabby and Kaetlyn are still competing, but ladies so very rarely are the "Captain" of the Canadian team, for whatever reason). At least they got that SO at Nationals before their FD.

I just think they have so much potential it would be a shame if they leave now. There are not so many dance teams interesting to watch W/P is one of them.

I really like W/P too. They form a very elegant and good looking couple (like C/B). I like the way they skate. I loved their costumes (Kaitleen has very good taste, she is gorgeous) and liked both their short and long dances this year.
I hope they continue too.

I hope Weaver & Poje can maybe pull out a medal at worlds. I am not sure if Bobrova & Soloviev are going, that would already bump them up to 5th highest ranked team from the Olympics (Virtue & Moir definitely arent going). With Canadian #1 backing again for the first time in awhile, and skating better than the Olympics they can beat C&L and fight with both the Shibs and Hubbell & Donohue IMO. It would take 2 great skates, but I think it is possible.

Their Instagram posts certainly make it sound like they are done. Which is too bad. I will miss them and feel like they have so much more to offer.

Ahh, the highs and lows of the Olympics. So excited for ice dance and such a downer when it's over! But that was a great comp, and WeaPo were gorgeous and I'm so happy that they were happy with their skate. For fans of ice dance, you latch onto a team for reasons only you can figure out because always there is someone else disagreeing with you! And even though I've watched WeaPo for years, this season they just grabbed my heart and I couldn't help but be behind them all the way through the journey. They are special and whatever they decide I will wish them all the best and I know they still have a lot to give to ice dance. I would hope they stay in 2 more years for Canadian ice dance. For me, one thing is for sure, they are the most beautiful couple on the ice and they always give me such feels no matter what they are skating to. Congrats, Kaitlyn and Andrew for a fantastic year and Olympic skates! Will be sending good thoughts for Worlds!

If they don't retire maybe take a stab at working with Marie France and her team. I could see them working magic all while imporving their twizzles

Can not agree more...

There is still some hope. I read an article from Waterloo Chronicle and Andrew said they will "take it year by year" for now. They are definitely going to Worlds and I would imagine their results there may help them to decide. I don't completely understand what is going on in ice dance right now so these next few years will be interesting to see what direction it really is going. What I love about Kaitlyn and Andrew is that they are lyrical and yet have power. They still have room to grow in their skating. They would, however, be awesome in the show skating side of ice dance because they can emote like no other team.

As an aside...I find it interesting that years ago ice dancers didn't even really do twizzles...well maybe one or two but nothing like the element that it is now. I mean, really, twizzles make or break a program now. They sure have become important. I wish they weren't honestly. I mean, twizzles are exciting but to me the step sequences are the money in ice dance, and then the lifts.

Wasn't there a brief period, towards the end of B&K's career, where teams had the option of either doing 2 separate twizzles, or 2 spins? I feel like I remember something like that.

And back then, twizzles was just twizzles - not 3-4 twizzles in a row.

You can have the program of your life and botch the twizzles just a little bit, people will say that you deserve to score 60. It's because, IJS-wise, you need the equivalent of a jump - but to me the equivalent are the step sequences. Twizzles are very recognisable, whereas top teams will blend their step sequence so much, the casual viewer won't notice it at all. That will get you all the point though. WeaPo Pst in the SD was amazing. In my top 3 of the night.
Sure I'd like them to fix their twizzles because it's like a mirror of the performance but they can for sure. It asks or a lot of patience but they are hardworkers.

Well here's hoping ice dance will settle down now that V/M will be gone again. V/M are wonderful skaters but this hype about them is suffocating, imo. But it'll settle down. I so want WeaPo to get the Canadian title back and they need to stay in for Canada to keep 3 spots right now. I think Piper and Paul will continue to do well but if it's just them and S/F, I don't think that'll do it yet. I could be wrong but...

Anyway, WeaPo deserve to be back in the spotlight again in ice dance and I'm hoping they will. They were very underscored at the Olympics in both dances but I have a suspicion that the judges (some judges anyway) weren't willing to reward more than one Canadian team and we all know which one that was. At least WeaPo and G/P stayed in the top 10. I was glad about that.

Oh, Happy Birthday, Andrew!

They are canadian#2 . Piper and Paul came 2nd at Canadians due to dirty cdn judging.

Andrew fell on the twizzle and lost ~8 points. Judges did everything they could to hold them up in the Freedance, but the twizzle loss was too much - we know you don't like Piper and Paul, but how can you call that dirty judging.??

Let me explain then. They lost 8 points on the twizzle. The rest of the program was far superior so the difference should have been enormously cut down in the final mark. I do not dislike Piper and Paul. I think they are really good skaters just not in the same league as W/P. Piper's skating skills are not great and there is no connection or chemistry between the 2. The person I dislike is Carol Lane who usually puts down the competition and overlooks G/P mistakes when commentating and she also has a lot of teams leaving her and the sport both before and now. She has way too much sway over Skate Canada and domestic judges.

Agree with some of this but not all :( I also think the judges did what they could in this case. W/P still had higher PCS (barely though) and this with a fall and an invalidated element. I think if the judges had been any more generous to W/P, there would have been question marks. Tracy Wilson felt the invalidation/penalization of the twizzles was far too harsh and I respect her immensely, and you as well @barbarafan. In general, I agree that W/P are better. I have seen both teams live and W/P really have a presence on the ice. Kaitlyn is fierce and her performance execution radiates.
