We Could Be Heroes: Duhamel and Radford Uber Thread

Go Team; if anyone has the determination to win and the required work ethic needed to accomplish their goals, it is Duhamel and Radford! They are truly always the underdogs, constantly criticized and usually underestimated. Together they are the little engine that could, and actually did, not once, but twice this quad they landed on the top step. Hoping they can stay healthy and peak for Korea and a win with great score in Lake Placid along with podium finish at GPF, will certainly help their cause to once again be viewed as podium favorites...

It's been years since i've seen a team or skater make significant artistic improvement so quickly. That desire to confront your critics and do what is best is why this team will be contending seriously at the games. Meghan specifically seems to be a new girl. I can see glimpses of her grit, counting points etc. but overall she in the short program tried to really stay very present. I will never be a person that goes back and rewatches their programs in awe of their artistry but there are endless lessons to learn about tenacity and longsuffering as well as personal growth and teamwork that this team illustrates. Job well done.

Loved that SA short. It had a calmness that made it all the more powerful. Also made me a little sad...With or Without You...the Cdn pairs scene will not be the same for me when D/R move on. I was so happy for them when they found each other and got another chance to reach their goals. I liked them as people for their team work and attitude in the face of adversity and I like their skating more each time I see them skate. Go back and watch programs from the last few years and you will see improvement each year. That is rare and they should be applauded for continuing to push themselves and grow. I hope this season is everything that they want it to be. Thank you Meagan and Eric!

Really liked it as well. What is going on with their coaching situation. I thought they had added Zimmerman which is why they dropped Richard Gauthier but on their Bio it now shows only Bruno Marcotte. Are they no longer training alongside Vanessa & Morgan?

I'm crying right now!!! Pairs just won't be the same without Meagan and Eric! What I love most about them is how they can switch from style to style - Adele, Seal, U2, Edith Piaf. They do it all, they experiment, and they are never afraid to try. They've taught me so much. And I admire that they don't stay down for long - they're always optimistic and hopeful that they can get up and fight on. Strong outing at SA, the short made me get choked up, the 2nd half of the free was gorgeous. Good luck for the Final!

They are such an amazing team and awesome people. I hope they end their careers in style with an individual bronze and Team gold at the Games! I hate all the negative and undeserved flak they got for being overscored. Both their world titles were deserved IMO. Well maybe 2015 Sui & Han should have won the LP and scored better compared to Duhamel & Radford but I think D&R would have still won overall that year. 2016 they were clear winners, they killed it and the others all had problems.

Happy birthday to the sweet and amazingly handsome Eric! I wonder if he and Meghan will still be good friends after they retire. Well they will probably be skating professional together awhile anyway. I wonder if she also gives some encouragement in his unique situation of being an openly gay man in the sport.

I went to see Meagan and Eric again today in their final days of training before the Olympics. They cannot wait to be there and are serene and really confident in their training. As always they are the friendliest and nicest people, having time for a chat even in these busy times. Expect a costume surprise too ;)

I love that description, the Little Engine that Could. That fits D&R to a T.

They are also such classy, nice and personable people even through all the criticsm and back biting even when they were on the very top and regarded as the best team in the world for 3 years from 2014-2016. Megan gets a bit snipey but nothing too disrespectful or wrong, and for someone that some skating snobs, even in Canada, refer to by terms such as truck driver who wouldnt.

The radio Q episode Eric did is up, I posted about it in another thread:
I'm listening to CBC Radio Q featured a 16 min discussion on the topic:

Olympic figure skater Eric Radford on how lyric music is changing The Games

Opens with obligatory discussion of "Turn Down for What", of course.

ETA: Now they're discussing warhorses like POTO. Eric is asked what piece of music he'd never want to hear again in skating and his answer is R&J.

More Eric stuff: he did the "My name is" thing
