I heard today about a Ukrainian pet food company trying to donate 200 tons of pet food to animals there. The man’s name is Android Kucherenko, and he is in Lviv. There is an email address for asking about making donations in US dollars, [email protected].

Anyone know anything about this? I do think it’s legit.

What started off as a rental car trip to the Ukrainian border to transport refugees has led to the creation of a nonprofit organization delivering medical supplies and tactical gear into the heart of Ukraine. Finkelman and his new colleagues have named the organization Zhyty Khochu, meaning “I Want to Live,” inspired by a line from a famous 1890 Ukrainian work by Lesya Ukrainka called “Contra Spem Spero!”

Contributions to “I Want to Live” can be made on its website.

I've seen these felted yellow-and-blue hearts a few times on photos in FB, one of the posts went viral and I finally could find the author.

She lives in Sumy, city at north-east Ukraine which was recently de-occupied. She wrote on her FB that she will be happy to create and sell more of such hearts to help her family to recover and to donate part of the money to other people who need help.

Great news and massive thanks to all those who donated. After several days of being stuck on the border, Pasha and his friends have collected not one but THREE vans continue their work. Two were purchased with the money raised and one was a gift.

The whole world knows now that photo from Bucha with woman's hand with red nail varnish. Her name was Iryna Filkina.
Her daughter, Olga, opened a foundation which she called "Mama Ira" to help children orphaned during the war.

My friend Pasha just posted pictures of a sports camp he organised in Buzova, his village destroyed by the Russians early in the war.


I'm really proud of him and his wife. Pasha's own story is compelling, as he was one of 8 siblings and lost his father by suicide at a young age. After a turbulent childhood and little family guidance he turned his own life around by attending sports camps similar to these as a teenager and I'm so proud of having seen him grow up from the 16 year old who travelled to Kyiv by train to carry my suitcases in exchange for a McDonald's at the central station every time I arrived in the country to the young man who not only attended uni but went on to complete a master's in sports management, to the coach and educator who has been invited everywhere from South Africa to Texas, to the husband and father who is now taking a leading role with humanitarian efforts.

One of my favourite pasha memories is him asking me to take him to the airport for a plane to Kyrkhyztan of all places where he was to run a rugby camp. When I turned up he was holding a supermarket plastic bag with his passport and a spare pair of shorts. That was only ten years ago I think...

Here’s a gifted NYT article about the plight of abandoned animals in Ukraine. It includes information on how to donate. I know some may feel that donations should go to people since so many people are suffering, and I get it, and I think most donations are going to help people. But here you have people taking care of the animals, and people having to abandon their animals, so helping the animals is also helping people.

Hey, I have a question about writing a note to some people in Ukraine. I'm involved in a small effort to send cards to Ukrainians working with some relief workers in Ukraine.

I am going to write in English and include a couple of sentences in Ukrainian. I can use google translate, but do I need to write it in the Cyrillic alphabet? That will be more challenging.

So for example, if I want to write "You are not forgotten." Is there any chance they would understand "vy ne zabuti" ?

Thanks for any help that anyone can give. I can ask my contact, but I figured FSU knows all!
