Unfair to real Juniors. I hated what the Georgians did last year, to the point of rooting against them at senior Worlds.

Tsarevski is newly 21 as of 2 or so weeks ago, so it’s no where near the level of Berulava. Wolfkostin is only 19. I don’t find this that egregious.

Honestly, they should have done juniors last year too.

There's been talk for awhile that USFS had asked W/T to go junior to secure spots. It does make sense as a move for them.

FYI - Aboian/Veselukhin are listed as substitutes on the JGP Latvia entries list so it seems safe to assume that he has been released from Russia and they're now on the ISP. Fully expect them to be assigned to two JGPs given they just won LPIDI jr int'l.

I also won't be surprised if Stapert/Korotcov are added to the ISP as they won bronze in the LP NQS event.

JGP Latvia assignments -
Mullen/Mullen (3rd LPID Int'l)
Deych/Hu (1st LPID NQS)

Substitutes -
Aboian/Veselukhin (1st LPID Int'l)
Epps/Gilman (9th LPID Int'l)
Ilin/Cain (6th LPID Int'l)
Peal/Peal (4th LPID Int'l)
Renzi/Lissauer (2nd LPID NQS)
Wolfkostin/Tsarevski (2nd LPID Int'l)

Deych/Hu (junior team that were 5th at the Dallas NQS) have been added to the ISP. No Aboian/Veselukhin, so I assume he hasn’t been released yet.

Latest round of additions to public ISP list:

Hana Maria Aboian and Daniil Veselukhin
Amy Cui and Jonathan Rogers
Annabelle Morozov and Jeffrey Chen
Vanessa Pham and Anton Spiridonov
Annelise Stapert and Maxim Korotcov

I hope Annelise Stapert/Maxim Korotcov will get a JGP assignment!

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Stapert/Korotcov get a JGP assignment.

Based on the Dallas Classic and Lake Placid (both Int'l and NQS) results, as well as the first two known JGP assignments, I think we're looking at the following teams getting two JGPs for 10 of the 14 spots:

Mullens (JGP Latvia + 1)
Aboian/Veselukhin
Wolfkostin/Tsarevski
Peals
Ilin/Cain

That leaves 4 spots of which we know:

Deych/Hu - JGP Latvia

The other two teams that scored above 125 at Lake Placid are:
Renzi/Lissauer
Stapert/Korotcov

I think it's fair to guess those two teams will also get 1 JGP assignment and then the top scoring team of DeycHu, RenLiss, StapKor will get a 2nd assignment. The only other junior team on the ISP is Epps/Gilman and their score was 113 with a fall from her in the FD.

@Karen-W Great analysis.

Only question I have is whether Pederson/Starr will get some monitoring done and then be considered for one of the last JGPs. They seem to have partnered rather late, so I don’t know if that’s feasible. Would be a shame to miss the entire junior season, though.

Maybe? I don't think the ISU has added the event announcement for the last JGP (China) yet but if the entry deadline is after the next NQS dance event and they enter that and skate well then maybe they could get assigned to JGP China.

Aboian/Veselukhin coming out of nowhere and winning all over the place in juniors is reminding me of the sudden rise of Neset/Markelov (who just scored 183 and change in their first senior competition at Lake Placid). Where are all these insanely talented kids coming from?? It's not just a matter of renting-a-Russian; in both cases the girls are American -- and, I would argue, both girls are the strength of their partnerships. The guys are really good, but the girls are amazing.

Fans are not the only ones asking where they came from. Even competitors, and not just American competitors, are not happy they burst out of the scene. Would be interesting to see them grow and develop -- and how the more established junior teams are going to up their games

Pffffft. That's ridiculous. We knew who he was last year when he was partnered with Jane Calhoun. They were both talented and it was only because he had to wait for his release that they didn't get sent out on a JGP, IMO.

If other competitors aren't happy... That sounds a little like some entitlement bittercakes.

I'm sure competitors are never really happy when someone new and promising shows up. Such is sport. You up your game and you fight as hard as you can.
Exhibit A: Tim Koleto in Japanese dancing, when Dai Takahashi burst onto the ice-dance scene. And look who got the Olympic Team silver medal! KA-boom! 💪 👑

I am sure competitors and ice dance fans know him, but it's such that he was never THAT dominant when he was partnered with Jane. And now, all of a sudden, with a new partner, their team is at the top of the podium in two competitions! Talk about the alignment of the moons and stars in terms of finding the right partner.

^^ From the interview:

More financial support would also mean we could afford a designer who could accommodate our style and stature

Ouch! That comment might not make their current designer real happy...

I'm a fan of the Browns. I'd like for them to achieve their skating goals. But if they are under that much financial strain and their family is struggling that much, I wonder if it might be better to move on to college or career prep rather than continue to struggle to work toward what is realistically a long shot to make a World or Oly team.

Well, unless their costume designer is an amateur family member, then yes, I'd be upset.

I don't know the first thing about how much teams like the Taschlers or Demougeot/LeMercier pay for their costumes but ive long thought that the Browns, especially Oona, would be better-served design-wise by at least inquiring with those two teams' designers.

Whoa!

Katarina Wolfkostin mentioned on her IG today that she's been dealing with a leg fracture this off-season.

Oona's taken a lot of flak for her costumes. That comment suggested to me that she's aware of it and is letting people know that there's not a lot she can do about it at the moment.
I agree - and actually the way I interpreted this is that they always wear the same style/shape of costume but in a different colour+embellishments which worked when they were younger but now they could do with different shapes and styles to tell new stories. Not dragging her designer at all - they probably have a base dress pattern for her that they work from every year as that’s a much cheaper than making another custom pattern every year

If they are able to raise the funds, I’d prioritize RD costumes. The ones at Lake Placid didn’t really match the music/time period/theme.

The FD ones looked a little practice-y, but at least they looked new and the little black dress is a classic style.

Costumes are superficial. I don't care who makes them (designers or family members). The Browns supreme Dance talent shines through regardless of what they are wearing. The real tragedy would be to lose a talent like the Browns in Ice Dance (due to financial troubles) before they can realize their potential in the sport (like we saw with Manta and Johnson, who left Ice Dance early in their Senior Careers for similar reasons).

I think that Oona pointing out they didn't have the money for better costumes was perhaps meant to indicate to people that their constant harping on it is rude. Not invite more suggestions as to how her costumes suck.
Well, if that's the case then Oona probably needs to stay off the internet. Maybe it's hard to avoid if people don't have any boundaries or sense and make rude comments on their social media posts, but those are the people you just block and disengage with.
