Orser is just some kind of wizard/genius. Everyone should go to him
I would never underestimate the power of the team that he surrounds himself with though. In particular, the (unrelated) Wilsons, Tracy and David. It takes a village.

It does seem that way doesn’t it. I wonder if what Scott said about the leash is right. Orser is getting up there in Fassi, TAT territoryOrser is just some kind of wizard/genius. Everyone should go to him
Uh. I love Hanyu but there is an element of luck. At Both Olympics Kim skated her absolute best. Hanyu not so much.It does seem that way doesn’t it. I wonder if what Scott said about the leash is right. Orser is getting up there in Fassi, TAT territory
It’s hard to say if anyone could have stopped the Sochi machine, probably not, but the proof of the pudding is in the tasting and YH has two titles and YK does not.
It sounds like youBTW ANL is still pissed..... I taped BOTH NBCSN and NBC....
ON NBCSN I saw all them men until half of Patricks program... when the 4 hours stopped. (In the middle of Patricks' performance)
Then I switched over to NBC expecting them to show the last group and whoever was left after patrick..
NBC only showed a rebroadcast of Adam... AND THAT WAS IT??? Whats going on? How many channels and number of programs do I have to record each night???
I still havent seen Nathan, Yuzuru, Javi yet......
What kinda NBC coverage was that? To show us a bunch of runs by Shiffrin who didnt even medal or what?? And what kinda numbers does luge and skeleton bring in? Flatliners??? Although that USA DUDE who won silver a few days ago IS SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SOOO confused.. Ive never seem an Oly broadcast where they showed NO mens SP on the main broadcast...
What should I record tonight? Euro Sport? And how?
Where did you all watch the last group of mens????????????
I watched it all on NBC and I am on Pacific time.Pacific time has the usual 4 hours time slot on NBCSN and NBC. At NBCSN at the 3:59 marker Patrick had just started his SP and it cut off. (That was the 4 hour mark). SO then I went over to NBC because FOR SURE I thought they would have final flight plus USA guys... ALL they showed in their 4 hour telecast was a repeat of Adam which already aired in the 4 hour portion of NBCSN.
For me is shocking that they showed NO mens SP in the MAIN NBC telecast. Even in the description it said Mens SP figure skating. All they showed was WAYYYYYYYYY too much of Mikaela and luge and skeleton and snow board cross.
sigh......
I think Vincent might need to leave Tammy and especially Tom Z. Tom Z is known for his skaters lacking really good skating skills and also being slow on the ice and lackluster programs. That is the biggest thing Vincent needs work on are his skating skills and speed if his speed improves it will help with rotating his jumps which he still struggles with.I don't think Nathan should switch unless he's truly unhappy. Obviously what he's been doing has been working. It appears the Short Program struggles were nerves, not any bad training. Some people were also saying he looked miserable - I don't think he looked any different than usual. Maybe more nervous due to the pressure, but stoicism is his thing. Without those nerves he could've easily won. But there's not much a coach can do about nerves other than reassuring the skater and sending them to a sports psychologist.
I don't think Vincent should switch either. Whatever he's doing is clearly working given his success at the Olympics. Yes, he needs to work on his PCS and I don't think Tom Z will do that at all, but he's also working with Tammy Gambil - a coach with many skaters who are good at the PCS aspect of things.
Yes, Orser has Yuzu, Gabby, Yuna, and Javi, but he's also had a lot of skaters that aren't working out as well. Tursynbaeva is skating great, but she's slipped in the ranks a bit since her Junior career. Christina Gao didn't end up benefiting after the initial switch. Adam Rippon didn't stay there long. Nam Nguyen's results also slipped. I suppose you can blame Tursynbaeva and Nguyen's struggles on puberty or the fickleness of the Senior ranks, but Orser deals with that well with other skaters.
My opinion is that Orser is an amazing coach for some skaters, but that his style may not work for other skaters. The fact that he has his own figure skating-dedicated rink also helps his skaters get cheap ice time without much distraction - a great contrast to other rinks some skaters train at which certainly provides an advantage. We shouldn't send skaters there expecting him to turn them into Olympic champs. If a skater wants to go because they like his coaching style, they can go, but it won't work for every skater he sees, just like any other coach.
Like I said, Sochi was it’s own unique case. But, as crushed as I was and considered Yuna “wuz robbed” she did double that 2nd lutz so I’m not sure about “absolute best”. But that’s nit picking.Uh. Kim skated great in Sochi.
It is unfair to blame her coaches she was prepared and skated perfectly others just caught up.

Unlike Toller and Morizov, I’ve never read Brian saying “with me she won, without me she didn’t” so I find him at least classier than the other two.
Was that Christy Krall in the knc with Vincent and Tammy?

It's geoblocked for non-USians like me, but apparently he said "I'll definitely set my sights on 2022". I'm glad to hear that "definitely" from his mouth... I mean, figuratively speaking, because NBC doesn't want me to literally hear it from his mouth.
Has anybody here watched it? Did anything interesting come up?
Assuming you are in the U.S.:Anyone have a link of Zhou's Olympic long program....I'm still searching for it....

He reveals that he loves cats. :cats:
His story is both an American and Chinese dream. His parents emigrated in the ’90s and became top computer scientists. They had a girl, Vivian, who is now working on her degree in brain and cognitive science at M.I.T. Vincent took a unique and special path, traveling to Southern California and then Colorado to follow a dream his parents weren’t sure he would keep. He graduated high school at 16 and writes poetry in his down time. He is the family cut-up who also happens to be insanely sharp. When a fan asked him about time travel on social media, his response was, “If I time traveled, I would likely end up in outer space because Earth is moving at 67,000 mph and time travel is only time travel and not spacetime travel.”
Those are Zhou’s two sides: playful and machine-like. When he hints at time travel ahead four years, he is bemused and also very serious.
There’s a long way to go to Beijing. Anything can happen, good or bad, especially in this sport. But if he does not make it to this stage again, it will not be because of a lack of will.
“I recognize I have the ambition and determination and perseverance and work ethic to get where I dream of being,” he said.
Then he added to that:
“In four years, who knows where I will be? If I can do this now, I can only imagine what it will be like in four years.”
Only a short time later, he sent out a tweet: “My time is now.”
Are you kidding, the casual and sudden launch into the calculations about the earth’s movement through space, making time travel impossible was the ultimate nerd! Bay Area nerds unite!PML. The cats wasn’t even the most interesting thing in the video. Save net neutrality was like nerd snark.
He is the anti-Adam.
