I don't get Jason's quad. Like, there's tons of videos of him doing it really well in practice or just nailing 4T-3Ts. They look great, and the fact that he can do it on practice ice suggests its not people on his team just picking and choosing videos of his rare successes to post. Yet, he can't seem to land them in competition. With some skaters, I'd attribute it to nerves, but Jason seems to have no problems with confidence or nerves on anything else.

Jason had a fantastic FS run through. I watched. He landed a quad toe and both triple axels. Great jumps except a little slip on the triple loop.
That... that was a 2A at the end, wasn't it?

I hope, as he says in the article, it's just the way the week is going. It occurred to me the other day that if it is the same psychological rut so many skaters seem to fall into, it's a much scarier rut than I thought! Existential crisis level. :fragile:

I'm not sure about the existential crisis level, but yes that was a 2A. He does a 3A and 3A-3T earlier in the program. The program was choreographed with a 4T and a 4S in the first half. He's not including the 4S yet; hence the 2A.

He comes to play. Interesting that he moved a 3A to the 2nd half, does all his combos in the 2nd half, trying to maximize points.

He's been doing the second 3A in the second half since 2015.

I thought he looked a bit tired/slow in the SP, but the FS is looking really, really good!

I have to say now that Ive seen Jason's SP I LOVE it.. and Im not a theatre guy and have no idea about Hamilton....although it is playing just a 5 min drive away from me in hollywood.

He should hold on to the bronze with or without a quad tomorrow!!!!!

Jason is 3rd, not too far behind Chan. Good Job! Both screwed up their 3A [Chan's mistake was a bit more egregious]. He looks like he has a scoring cap of around 93 points w/o a quad. He could score closer to 100 points w/ some sort of quad in the SP.

Jason picked Hamilton. He had to convince Kori and rohene. (Though I suppose I haven't heard who picked that particular song...but Jason seems pretty passionate about skating to it.)
I replied to a post about his free skate music.

The Hamilton program is fine for him.

It is such a joy to watch Jason skate! I am typically so drawn into his programs with his unique moves and beautiful edges.

I met Jason and his coach at Worlds in Boston when I volunteered, and he is so incredibly warm and friendly. Gave me a hug, and I had just met him!

This reinforces that Jason not at 100% still gets the elite level PCS and always a respectable finish. He’s been an asset to the US team and continues to be one. To me, he and Nathan are the two far and away locks for the Olympic team, barring injury.

If Jason isn't on the Olympic team, I'll cry!

What a stunning performance tonight from Jason.

Having seen most of the frontrunners, I'm rooting for Nathan and Max and one of Jason, Adam and Zhou.
Nathan has great programs and I hope he stays healthy; Max has actually shown some improvement both technically and artistically.
If Jason lands a quad, I'll root for him.
(Not that a quad means anything in itself; I simply want to see tech or artistic improvement for any men who want to get on the O team.)

Yeah, Max should be rewarded for his improvement. Idk what he did this summer to do it, but he's finally getting spin and step sequence level 3s and 4s called.

I don't think it's just this summer. I think the steps are the four years' worth of work accumulating and showing some reward; he was taking additional spin lessons prior to Nationals last year (you can see a visible change in the entrances to his camels); and he spent the time after Nationals studying the best quad jumpers in the world to figure out their technique so he could fix his 4T.

I know he has a million other plans for post-skating, but I really think Max would be a valuable coaching asset for USFS when that time comes.

IMO, the men are hitting their marks early in the season (unlike US ladies).

Nathan beat Yuzu to win RC. Jason has two 2d place finishes to Shoma this season, and set a SB at SC. Max had a PB at the US International Classic while finally doing 2 different types of quads and higher levels on spins. Vincent has shown he can execute 4 different types of quads in competition and won a silver at Finlandia, losing overall but actually beating Boyang in the LP. Adam had a respectable opening at Finlandia, first competition post-injury. Ross also improved by Finlandia.

I hope it continues.

People are always saying that the Russian girls need more then 3 spots for their depth but the same could be said for the US Men even without Josh. :kickass:

You are assuming the US ladies are going to rise up. Wish I had your optimism.

Eh? I never say in my post that they will rise up. In fact, like you I am keeping my expectations low.
You said they were slower than the men in hitting their mark. In my mind the mark was wss something they above what they were doing now .hence thr rise up. One also rises to expectations...rises to the occasion etc.

I don't see the ladies reaching any great height
...that is for sure
