But who else would we have sent?

We've been over and over this. IMO, Jason just proved USFS right in their decision. He not only qualified for the long program but will be in the penultimate group despite the easier jumps and jump execution issues. (He's really frustrated with himself over the last jumping pass, but I do think this performance was better than his performances earlier in the season and the reality is that he probably would have qualified for the long even with a fall today.)

Camden was the first alternate for Worlds. His performance at Four Continents didn't exactly inspire confidence that USFS could count on him to deliver in the short at Worlds.

Jacob had problems with his axels in both programs at Jr. Worlds and who knows how he would have dealt with the stress of his first senior worlds with Olympic spots on the line.

I'm pulling for Andrew in the long program. He must be feeling a lot of pressure.

I hope the American men earn three Olympic spots and that there are three men next season who skate well enough to clearly earn spots on the Olympic team.

I don't know who thinks that anyone but an able-to-skate Ilia Malinin is a lock for any spot. I don't know of many who don't think that someone else is going to have to make a case from now until after 2026 US Nationals to beat Brown, if he skates consistently well in that period. If. We'll see how it goes as he gets more confident in his new skates and regains the muscle memory of being able to rely on his boots.

Yo... You wanna call someone out, at least have the decency @misskarne did and call me out by name.

As far as today... I already made my observations & I stand by them. Nothing about today's skate makes me believe all is suddenly well & back to normal for Jason, nor do I believe that he's got an Olympic spot on lock.
I don’t think anyone thinks Jason is a lock for the Olympics. Today was all about keeping three spots for the Olympics. Andrew has shown consistency this season, so I have faith he can stay in the top 10.

I absolutely loved Jason's long program. It was so great to see that program skated to its full potential. If you had told teenage Jason, who was doing Riverdance, that he would do this program at Worlds when he was 30 years old, I wonder what he would have thought.

I don’t think anyone thinks Jason is a lock for the Olympics.

He's not a lock, but he just made a pretty darn good case for himself. If Ilia is not going to do both the short and long in the Olympic team event, then the American team may just need Jason.

I'm heartbroken for Andrew.

I agree. Jason is just so solid. That’s why he was sent to Worlds. I am heartbroken for Andrew, too. He has been so so consistent all year that I thought he would skate well. 🙁

Fourth in the long program. What American man not named Ilia could have done that well?

And speaking of Ilia, major, major kudos to him. Not just for defending his world title or for all the quads, though that is amazing. His presentation has improved so much over the last few years and he has found his own style. (Also, his interviews have improved a lot, too.) He's incredible.

2017 World Figure Skating Championships:
6th - Nathan Chen
7th - Jason Brown
3 spots regained for Olympics.

2021 World Figure Skating Championships:
1st - Nathan Chen
7th - Jason Brown
25th (DNQ) - Vincent Zhou
3 spots retained, but third had to be confirmed at Nebelhorn due to DNQ.

2025 World Figure Skating Championships:
1st - Ilia Malinin
8th - Jason Brown
22nd - Andrew Torgashev
3 spots retained.

Three cycles in a row that Jason has been Mr Dependable. And some still doubt him. We saw today why he was brought.

I have request. Could all those who have hated, doubted, questioned and over-analyzed - and even argued about Jason's presence at Worlds.......

Please Be Quiet for a while. Please! Just give it a rest for a week or so.
good luck. People love to hate, and personally I think for some there is some homophobia in there fueling it.

Jason is incredible. Endless respect and love for him!

All I can say is US figure skating knows more than those people who didn’t think Jason should go including me

We have three spots because of Jason again. I don’t think Camden could’ve guaranteed us three spots and obviously Andrew didn’t guarantee us three spots. I wasn’t sure Jason ideserved to go I thought it was a bad decision. (and I’m a huge fan.)

I was wrong.

Andrew really took a Torgashit didn't he? :kickass:

Glad Jason is back on track for Milan. Nothing guaranteed but he's on the right path now.

Probably should have paid for access to the Kiss 'n Cry. We've already aired it out.
Nah. I'm waiting for you to acknowledge it from out behind the paywall to. You were vicious in your hatred for Jason and your insistence he should not even have been considered and that he was concocting some evil entitled plot to get a Worlds spot he didn't deserve.

And here we are.

No matter what the status of his triple axel everyone knew he would get over 90 in pcs and high levels and huge goe on non jump elements and therefore must be sent! I actually predicted his pcs would be higher! Pcs is so much more locked in than it should be

I’ve loved him since he was a junior and this lp is the first time I’ve ever seen Jason compete live. I’m so grateful I had a chance to see that sublime performance in person. After all the problems this year, he delivered everything he’s capable of and what I’ve always loved him for. ❤️

My attempt to video him after the skate is a bunch of blur and then a shot of the floor. I can hear my family laughing at me now (typical of my filming ability when I’m excited :shuffle: )

Congrats to Ilia on his second world title. Seeing him live is a revelation - incredibly exciting. I discovered that at Skate America 2022 and he’s continued to develop in all areas since then.

I'm no more vicious in my "hatred" of Jason than you are, in the pbp threads, of any skater who might dare to challenge Jason's PCS-supremacy. But, you keep on doin' you.

Like @Carolla5501, I thought it was the wrong decision to send Jason and I'm pleased that I was wrong. I very much wanted the US to have three spots. Heck, I'll even acknowledge, right now, that Jason's locked in his spot on the Olympic team next year and deserves it (provided he stays healthy, which is true for any skater/team we perceive to be a 'lock' in any discipline).

The race for the third spot is on and it will be interesting to see who steps up to the plate. I'm rooting for Jacob or one of the other youngsters.

I'm just literally here to read Karne's posts having watched zero of worlds and just having looked at the ordinals, it's disappointing to see her having posted only twice on this topic

In a way US is in trouble because we don't know who can be relied on for 2026 worlds if Ilia and Jason don't go.
s
But then perhaps we don't deserve three spots if no one skates well there
I kind of agree. I have been saying to my husband at home, who asks why Jason keeps getting selected for World teams, that the US has had a string of promising skaters since the junior days before YKW, who did well and showed promise, but never skated to their potential. So, there is no one to push Jason aside and establish themselves as #2 or #3.
