Good to know they had the time for this and had no concern about suddenly introducing this to the scale and allowing an attempt in the free skate when all of one person in the world has been training a quint, but not for changing the rules to make the jumps and spins fewer
We don't even know how serious any quint training has been. But I'd bet he is not the only skater thinking about it.

I think that by giving them a flat 14.00 value they are giving themselves an out by saying "look we encourage innovation" but also saying "but it's probably not worth it to anyone but ilia who is quite frankly kind of out of his mind lol"

OMG Joonsoo Kim (Johns Hopkins Univ. medical school student) scored 80.00 for his SP at US Collegiate Championships with 3A, all positive GOEs, and two 8.00 for PCS! 😳
Joonsoo won the Senior Men competitions!

He scored 146.95 for his FS with two 3A (one in combo), all positive GOEs except those for a 3Lz fall, and six PCS scores over 8.0 (two 8.5)!

Joonsoo has a good score overall. I wonder if he wants to compete internationally. That's a score that would easily get him on the ISP.

I find it very interesting that Louis Mallane decided to compete in NQS as a Novice instead of a Junior at Glacier Falls. He competed in Junior at the Broadmoor Arena at the end of June and competed again as a Junior in the invite-only Junior Cup. However, he did not do as well as expected in both competitions.

Mallane is not Hugueto, who can jump from Intermediate to Junior and still make waves. I think being a novice is a good level for Mallane. Too much too soon as a junior, and he faltered. He'd shine as a Novice.

Does anyone know if there's an invitation-only competition for singles in Lake Placid? I saw some Insta stories with Ethan Peele and Jacob Sanchez in Lake Placid. I know Jacob lives in NY state, but it's quite a drive to Lake Placid and the event does not start until Monday. There's pics of Jacob and the Peales on the ice https://www.instagram.com/stories/jacob.skatess/3421612132482412651/?hl=en
It's possible USFS may be doing critiques for ISP skaters there. In the past, it's usually been just the dancers since it's a dance comp and the dance judges are all there, but it's always possible there could be additional monitoring going on.

Or maybe Jacob is training up there for a short period and is cheering on his friends.

Its probably monitoring. Monitoring is also happening at Glacier Falls, this morning.

Daniel Martynov is scheduled to compete junior men’s exhibition programs at Philadelphia, so it would seem that he’s planning on competing on the JGP after all (if he’s given one of the limited spots).

Hmmmm... I dunno. He's not listed as a substitute on the entries list for JGP Latvia. Not to say he couldn't be assigned to a future JGP but as of last Friday he doesn't seem to be in that conversation.

Maybe USFS saw how few 3As were landed at Junior Cup and asked him to prepare junior programs?

I assume he wasn’t listed as a sub because he didn’t compete in Milwaukee. That being said, there’s no other reason that he’d compete or even prepare junior programs if the intention wasn’t to be on the JGP.
