U.S. Figure Skating confirms that athletes, coaches, and family members were on American Airlines Flight 5342 that crashed in D.C.

I am so sad for all of the friends and families of everyone on board. Seems like this accident was completely avoidable, on top of everything...

Years ago, Shishkova and Naumov skated to Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. The story they told was one of Shishkova dying and Naumov's grief. I remember being kinda creeped out by it back then.

Now in real life Shishkova and Naumov will be mourned by their son and skating community with their lives unfinished, cut short by this tragedy. That program now reads to me as ominous foreshadowing, with just a bit of plot twist.

Just so so awful, this is so sad. ..
My favorite program of theirs. Love Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and they did it justice.

Jon Maravilla was almost on the flight. They barred him from getting on because his dog was too big. (Article is paywalled.) ETA: See @Sylvia's correction below.

Maxim Naumov’s grandmother was on my flight out of Wichita on Monday. We all changed planes in Chicago. She walked down the aisle congratulating all the skaters on the flight. She was very gracious. I congratulated her on Maxim’s great skate and she just beamed. ❤️ Bless her today.

I'm confused, doesn't your link say the same thing as what Wyliefan wrote?
I provided an alternative link to the The Daily Beast article for those who wanted to read the paywalled article but couldn't.

I've since been informed that Jon Maravilla was never scheduled to fly from Wichita on AA #5342 (RIA Novosti got that part wrong, supposedly).

Thanks for the correction, @Sylvia.

SCOB skater Jinna Han was also on the flight:
Thank you for the link. Excerpt:
Doug Zeghibe, CEO and executive director of the Skating Club of Boston in Norwood, Massachusetts, said 14 members of the U.S. Figure Skating team, six of whom are affiliated with the club, were on the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River near Washington, D.C.
Skaters Spencer Lane and Jinna Han and coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who won the pairs title at the 1994 world championships and competed at the Winter Olympics twice, were aboard the plane. Their son, Maxim Naumov, who was not on the plane, is a competitive figure skater for the U.S.
"I think for all of us, we have lost family," Zeghibe said.
The group was scheduled to board a connecting from from Reagan to Boston on Wednesday night.
Spencer Lane (SC of Boston) - Easterns Intermediate Men's champion, coached by Shishkova & Naumov.
Jinna Han (SC of Boston) - Easterns Novice Women's pewter medalist, coached, AFAIK, by Letov & Ganicheva who were not on that flight/already home.
The other two "affiliated with the club" were parents, presumably.

ETA - the WCVB article has been updated (more than once):

Skater Spencer Lane, 16, and his mother, Christine, skater Jinna Han, 15, and her mother, Jin, and coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were aboard the plane.

"Skating is a very close and tight-knit community. These kids and their parents — they are here at our skating facility in Norwood six, sometimes seven days a week. It is a close, tight bond, and I think for all of us, we have lost family," Zeghibe said.

Zeghibe said Spencer was a "highly-talented kid" who was "rocketing to the top of the sport," and Jinna was a "wonderful kid, great athlete, great competitor" who was loved by all. Zeghibe said their mothers were "role-model parents" who were dedicated to their children's sport.

I fell sleep, watching the news last night, and I was laying in bed this morning Too nervous to put on the news. I finally put on the news and the first things I hear out of her mouth
….” And members of the US figure skating team.” Just like that was suspected last night.

So tragic, so devastating I will try to catch up on everything now and find out what’s happening

Angela Yang's Instagram has photos of her in Wichita, some w/Sean Kay, and at the airport.

I feel terrible that she will have to bury and mourn a child, but it's good to know that Maxim at least has other family in the country. 23 is way too young to be orphaned and left entirely on your own with no family. :( Bless her indeed.

I had never heard of Channel2Now.com before so I refrained from posting the link earlier because this is not a complete list, AFAIK. But I believe the listed names are correct :( (ETA: they match my own sources that I deem to be reliable). In this version, "Eddie" is listed as Edward: https://channel2now.com/2025/01/30/...g-evgenia-shishkova-and-vadim-naumov-skaters/

Skaters Confirmed to Be on Board:
Spencer Lane (SC of Boston) - Easterns Intermediate Men's champion, coached by Shishkova & Naumov
Jinna Han (SC of Boston) - Easterns Novice Women's pewter medalist, coached, AFAIK, by Letov & Ganicheva who were not on that flight/already home
Edward Zhou (SC of Northern Virginia), Easterns Novice Men's pewter medalist
Everly Livingston (Washington FSC), Easterns Intermediate Women's pewter medalist
Lydia [should be] Alydia Livingston (Washington FSC), Everly's younger sister
Franco Aparicio (Washington FSC), Easterns Intermediate Men's pewter medalist
Sean Kay (Univ. of Delaware FSC)
Angela Yang (Univ. of Delaware FSC) - Yang/Kay won the Juvenile Dance gold medal at the Ice Dance Final at Mids in Nov. 2024
Vadim Naumov
Evgenia Shishkova
Inna Volyanskaya - coach of Aparicio and Everly Livingston
I heard just now that a young ice dance team from UDel was on the flight. Also Sasha Kirsanov.
Kirsanov coached Yang/Kay at UDel. :(

I think it would be a good idea for all of us not to post things we see from unidentifiable sources until we have something more reliable. It could be a false information that’s being spread and you don’t want to upset, family friends, etc. for no reason. If it’s from a family member, if it’s from the skating club of Washington DC, etc. then it’s probably reliable but from Bubba [email protected] on whatever keep our fingers off the keyboard and not pass on gossip.

Unfortunately, I’ve been in this situation where our close friend was near a horrific event and things were posted that led us to believe they had passed, which was very upsetting, but luckily, we found out about four hours later that he was alive, but that four hours was terrifying with somebody we didn’t know and we couldn’t figure out who they were posting on social media that our friend was dead. ( This was the Boston marathon situation for those of you curious and the posting was these are the race numbers of the runners who were killed. Turned out to be total fiction by someone who has an absolute perverse sense of humor. but there’s some crazy people out there who get off on this kind of on completely unethical behavior. And it’s up to us not to encourage it.
