New York v. Luigi Mangione: The judge has dismissed two terrorism charges.

Mangione still has the second-degree murder charges of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Utah vs. Robinson: The Utah County DA is holding a press conference ahead of Robinson’s arraignment hearing for murder charges of Charlie Kirk.

Here are the charges

Gray announced he is filing charges on these counts:

1. aggravated murder

2. felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury

3. obstruction of justice for moving and concealing the rifle used in the shooting

4. obstruction of justice for disposing the clothing he wore during the shooting

5. witness tampering for directing his roommate to delete his incriminating text

6. witness tampering for directing his roommate to stay silent if police questioned him

7. commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child

Count 1 of aggravated murder is a capital offense.

Counts 1 & 2 have two aggravating factors: 1) The motivation was political in nature, and 2) The crime was done in the presence of children.

Also I hadn't seen this before, was it known before:

in the charging documents prosecutors reproduced a text exchange that Tyler Robinson had with his roommate and romantic partner shortly after the shooting, in which Robinson admits to the assassination, they say.

“I had enough of his hatred,” Robinson texted, referring to Charlie Kirk. “Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

I don’t think so. But the evidence that this District Attorney is presenting so far is pretty damning, unless Robinson’s defense attorneys can get some of it thrown out.

Or…….maybe there will be a plea deal to avoid the death penalty and get life without parole.

They seem to be presenting evidence of text messages where he said he did it.

Plus having his DNA on the rifle. I can't imagine he has much defense.

Or…….maybe there will be a plea deal to avoid the death penalty and get life without parole.

This was a federal case, but Ted Kaczynski (The Unabomber) got to pled guilty for consecutive life sentences. And he killed people in several bombings and terrorized the entire U.S. for a couple of decades.

I don't see a lot a defense attorney could do with this case. Probably just throw his ass in front of a forensic psychologist to see if they could go for an insanity plea. He's not speaking to the feds, who knows if he's willing to talk to a psychologist (or his attorney).

OMG, what a BUSY day for us true crime fans!

A Los Angeles County judge has denied the Menendez brothers’ request for a new trial.

The Los Angeles District Attorney has given this press conference in reaction to the judge’s ruling.

Donna Adelson is now requesting a new trial.

Idaho prosecutors recently did such a plea deal in the case of the 4 murdered college students. Some of the families were very angry about the plea deal, but there are some benefits for the prosecution: you avoid the risk of a random juror deadlocking the jury and get certainty of conviction, the surviving roommates avoided the ordeal of having to testify, and most importantly, you avoid the risk of years of potential appeals and the chance of a verdict being overturned due to some procedural or evidentiary error at trial.
