Smart phones have given millions in India for the first time access to the internet including social media websites. However most are not tech or social media savvy and cannot tell the difference between “fake news”, rumours and real news etc. The result has been deadly. The link about is about the murder of two men based on false rumours of child kidnappings. Local police and the government has been trying to educate people but believe social media should do a better job of weeding out fake news.
