There's nothing wrong with good, well-done, thoughtfully-created covers. Some covers are actually better than the original (see Tainted Love, Respect, Nothing Compares to U, etc). I'm Your Fan, the Leonard Cohen tribute album, is full of amazing covers of Cohen's work. The problem with most skating covers is that they're almost always cheap knockoffs instead of artful reinterpretations.I know what people are talking about when they say "cover," but Frank Sinatra's "My Way" is a cover, most of what Ella Fitzgerald and most jazz singers sing/sang is a cover, anyone who sings Tevye besides Zero Mostel is singing a cover, etc. and I think we have to be careful what we wish for.
Cover of popular music written from the Rock and Roll age and on?
