They should NOT skate to...

I know what people are talking about when they say "cover," but Frank Sinatra's "My Way" is a cover, most of what Ella Fitzgerald and most jazz singers sing/sang is a cover, anyone who sings Tevye besides Zero Mostel is singing a cover, etc. and I think we have to be careful what we wish for.

Cover of popular music written from the Rock and Roll age and on?
There's nothing wrong with good, well-done, thoughtfully-created covers. Some covers are actually better than the original (see Tainted Love, Respect, Nothing Compares to U, etc). I'm Your Fan, the Leonard Cohen tribute album, is full of amazing covers of Cohen's work. The problem with most skating covers is that they're almost always cheap knockoffs instead of artful reinterpretations.

With this list, most of the skaters/teams this season would be skating to silence. Segue to...

Sound of Silence
Rain in Your Dark Eyes (can't believe that one hasn't popped up yet)
Paint it Black (original or any redux)
Beatles music

The whole Moulin Rouge soundtrack. Burn it to the ground.

Just to make sure there are no loopholes, both the movie and the musical.

Paint it Black (any version), Beth Hart, Requiem for a Dream, and everything listed here and probably more that we've forgotten. ;)

When was the last time we saw a Requiem for a Dream program? I don't think it's been overused in more than a decade. I'd be happy to see it again.

I agree with the poster who said avoid music that has words like fall, stumble, break, slip etc !!!

Get rid of POTO and the song that Torvill and Dean skated to in 1984

I also do not like "sad girl" music in general.

Although I like the song itself, skating to Creep by Radiohead is an odd choice for a skating program and I have seen 2 programs so far that use this piece...........I just don't see waking up one morning and saying "Gee, I think I will skate to Creep this year..." It is a great song, just not to skate to IMHO

I also do not like the song that includes the lyrics "I'm so pretty, I'm so pretty etc etc GAG" especially if the skater is not exactly the ideal example of such

It would be great if there was a repository of skateable and unconventional music/songs that were also licensable at affordable rates that skaters and choreographers could choose from. Also someone needs to burn Julie Marcotte's CD collection.
And TeamTodd&Jenni's CD collection. Both of those camps gave us "Two Men In Love" free skates for one of their pairs teams - ShiNagy and LiuBed. Inexcusable.

We are the champions
We will rock you
Bruce Springsteen
The Barber of the Seville
Anything requiring/choreography with Shimmy shoulders or the supposed disco rolling of arms
Hairography

Agree that To Build a Home needs to be retired. It seems great in theory but about everytime someone skates to it who is not P/C, the music starts swallowing them. You have to be able to respond to the buildup and the tension and so far I've only seen P/C do it. They've also perhaps created an impression that it's easier than it actually is and now it's churning on as background music without the skaters for the most part being able to deal with it.

Or Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sweet Charity, Gigi, Never on a Sunday, Irma la Douce and a whole whack of pop, jazz and rock songs.
Is Gigi about sex trafficking? Gigi's aunts thought it would be a good idea for her to be Gaston's mistress, Gigi refused, then acquiesced, but then Gaston married her instead. Approximately the same ending as Pretty Woman. These women were in control of their own fortunes. They were of-age and used sex as economic tools. Not the same as being kidnapped for sex.

Probably best to avoid it anyway, given the score includes a song called "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" which is sung by an adult man.

It's not about trafficking but one of the previous posts also mentioned songs about sex work. Which is almost impossible to avoid considering that in the literary and musical canon, women are usually only mothers, saints or sex workers.
