The Shoma Uno fan thread - Go for número UNO!

Dunno what to say today. Congrats to the medal. Maybe Tomono's fight for earning the third spot inspired Shoma a lot? Hope the instep of his right foot is not stress fractured. I was almost crying.
Me too, the first half of the program was heartbreaking. I'm not used to seeing him like that, and I was so afraid he would injure himself more. Thankfully the second half was a lot better, he looked more like Shoma there. Very gutsy and very brave performance. He wanted to give all for Japan's three spots!

Please someone give Uno a haircut. :slinkaway Love him but that hair is distracting.

Young people do that! Thirty years ago, there was a Swedish tennis player called Stefan Edberg that had a "peek-a-boo" hairstyle until he grew up!:puppet::respec::yikes:

Shoma says his foot was not hurting anymore at the time of the FS, so I hope he's not exaggerating and there's nothing to be too concerned about. :) (from an article here and interviews here)

I was so impressed that he came back from three falls to land three combos at the end of the program!

Overall, he has placed first or second at all of his events this season! I look forward to next season and hope he takes good care of himself, physically and mentally, in the meantime. :cheer2:

Re-posting @rosewood's links from the Japanese news thread in GSD:
Shoma made two ex numbers this spring. This is one of them to Time After Time choreographed by David Wilson.

The other one was done by Bourne and it seems kind of a challenging one costume-wise [photo]. :watch:

I came across this fun article in English on Shoma the basketball player from May 7: http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/AJ201805070032.html
It’s safe to say that Uno is more comfortable landing quadruple jumps on the ice than launching jump shots on the court.
Uno was a special guest at a top division game between home team Alvark Tokyo and visiting Kyoto Hannaryz at the Arena Tachikawa Tachihi in Tokyo’s Tachikawa city on May 6.
Uno belongs to Toyota Motor Corp.’s sports team, and the automaker is one of the main sponsors of Alvark Tokyo.
At an introduction interview before the start of the game, Uno was asked what is necessary “to display one’s full ability at the big moment.”
Uno answered: “I just display what I do at practice. Practicing is most important.”
The emcee then said, “I hear that you play basketball to warm up.”
Uno bluntly replied “No, I don’t.”
:D

Shoma Uno SP "Stairway to Heaven" performed by Rodrigo y Gabriela

I found his Nagano exhibition performance of his "Stairway to Heaven" SP uploaded here (performed only on June 8, the first day?): https://vimeo.com/278909387
Do we know who choreographed this? ETA that someone replied to me on Twitter as follows:
"the audio is out of sync in the step seq. here at 4:00 it's in sync but audio is lowered in the middle for copyright https://youtu.be/9N7nQ3679F8 i guess we can't have it all"

Shoma performed 2 other new exhibition programs in the Nagano shows:
"Great Spirit": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbYcaqXtueA (choreo. by Shae-Lynn Bourne)
"Time After Time": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxrIlo7vXFQ (choreo. by David Wilson)

I believe his coach Mihoko choreographed the SP.

GO SHOMA! I hope he is able to attain his dream of defending his World silver medal this year.

I'm pretty sure he's aiming even higher;) He was in Korea, he said afterwards that he went on the ice in the FS skating for the gold, but when he fell on the loop he knew it couldn't happen. No way his dream is a third silver medal at worlds. But of course I totally agree on the rest: GO SHOMA!

Oh dont get me wrong, I would love for Shoma to win the gold, but after winning worlds last year by 50 points (a gap that couldnt be closed by Kolyada or Shoma even had they skated their very best, even if both were far from it) I think Chen is just about unbeatable now. He could falter like the Olympics short thogh so you never know.

And here is an interview with Kanako and Shoma from a TV program of THE ICE Nagoya show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic__jlqT1F8

This was such a cute interview. Thanks for sharing this! I love how relaxed he is when he's with Kanako. It's rare to see him make fun of others, but he can do this so easily with her. Like how he hasn’t received a gift (reward?) from her for his Pyeongchang medal and he teases her like, it’s because you’re busy being on TV all the time. He rarely watches TV but when he does, he always sees her. It’s like “Kana-chan again?” :ROFLMAO:

Can we have Kanako interview him more often?

Sometimes a haircut is a trademark. Plushenko is wearing the same haircut today as in his early skating days and it doesn't do him any favors (my opinion of course, others may love it).

Moonlight Sonata has been skated by such iconic skaters - G/G and P/C but I think Shoma did it justice. Nice work. Is it my imagination or are Shoma's jump landings have improved.
