The Mao cheer thread #3 - "For the love of skating"

I'm not from Japan, but my family members watch NHK (world channel) regularly...and we usually watch R/W competitions on NHK by the end of the year. That's my personal reason to hope for seeing Mao there.

As for the singer from Okinawa...I can only come up with one (that I'm familiar with) but the singer is not in anyway related to Mao. So I'm not really sure. But perhaps there's some 'hidden preferences' from Mao that we're just not aware of, just as I can recall that she said she enjoys the song 時の流れに身をまかせ by Teresa Teng. Yes, I was also wondering upon listening to what song that Mao would be crying as that... Anyway, looking forward the the show at the end of the year and the new project for the next year. As for now, hope Mao can get a good rest after the long run!
That's too bad cohkaix. :( Yes, NHK is the company which has the largest geographic cover domestically and internationally. Wish you'll find a live streaming of the show at least.

Re the singer/song, I remember you were the one who guessed the right answers in "What will be the musics of Mao's new programs?" contest multiple times! So I always count on you. :D

Last night I dreamed that I was among the crowd in the Marathon cheering for Mao .

pd. The documentary video is blocked for me too. Hola did not work.

Blocked in US.
Could someone tell us about it, please?
Seems NHK reported this video and we cannot watch it anymore. Well, it's Japan. Found a video uploaded on bing. Wish it works for you.

(There were things that I found in this TV program. And comments from Plushenko, Sotnikova and TAT were touching. Are there any translations of this video on somewhere? err @chapis?)

Thanks a lot for the link, rosewood. It works for me. One of my favorite parts is when they show how immense Mao's rink coverage is by tracing the movements of her blades on the ice. It displays Mao's superior speed to every corner of the rink, while making so many graceful turns and arcs at the same time. What makes it so incredible is that Mao did it with such erect posture and by placing her technically challenging jumps so close to the boards and executing them so smoothly. She also managed to blend in a fabulous fan spiral and arabesque into such a a magnificent step sequence. I think this is what gives Mao's performance such an epic yet elegant feel, not to mention all the passion and sensitivity she poured into her program with such fine fluidity.

Thank you rose. It works for me but yeah, I would like to know what they say.
I still watched it though. :D

Thank you. I have not seen translation of this video anywhere.

For the rumoured million selling singer from Okinawa is it Amuro Namie who is retiring next year? She is one of the longest lived solo singers in Japan and she just released her final album called Finally which has sold about 1.6 million copies so far. Only singer to have million selling albums in her teens, 20s, 30s and 40s. Apparently Namie was reportedly in talks to join Kouhaku (Red-White competition) but I don't think it's been confirmed. I listen to a lot of Amuro Namie growing up, if these rumours are true that would actually be amazing.

Mao flew back home and she appeared at her exhibition in Osaka yesterday. The organizer did her exhibition in several cities in Japan after Sochi Olys and it drew over 700,000 people in total. They're having same style of exhibition this year again as a tribute to her retirement. Yesterday was the opening day of the Osaka exhibition. Reportedly over 500 people were in queues in the morning. Mao appeared at the exhibition and welcomed people for a while. (I went to Tokyo exhibition, btw.)

Looks Mao barely bent her left knee.

Prior to the appearance at the exhibition Mao was autographing on copies of books at an event celebrating her new book named "Mao Asada - my skating life" that I ordered through amazon.

100 people who won a lottery were invited to the event and luckily they had a chat with her. Some of them posted reports of what they talked with her on twitter. Judging by reading their reports, Mao's thinking about starting a new show of her own where she'll skate her programs she skated in the past and the number of the programs will be bigger than the one in THE ICE. She's thinking about starting her show from May or June, and she wants to travel across the country visiting every prefecture who has ice rinks. She wants to step closer to her fans than before and say thank you for supporting to everyone whom she can meet at her shows. So I guess it'll be smaller troop as well as much longer tour than THE ICE. We still need to wait for official announcement from her. We'll see.

:eek::eek::eek:, It is great!!!!

Thanks for the update info, rosewood! Do you think this is going to replace 'The Ice' tour for the next year? I also read from comments from Mao's fans on twitter, that one of the reasons is to 'cost-down' (such as touring around regular rinks to save money from ice-making, recruiting local skaters to save the fees from inviting oversea skaters, performing her past programs and doing her own choreo to save money from that... etc.) But one of the concerns that came to me is that, I suppose those local rinks open regularly will be...quite small in terms of capacity for viewers? It sounds like lots of details are in still in the air, but I hope (and believe) Mao will eventually make her new project work!

My thought is that Mao's main idea is to visit as many rinks as possible so that fans will be accessible to the place where she skates. THE ICE was(is) a big show using big houses like 8,000-9,000 seats venues, and it usually had Nagoya stop, Osaka stop and a couple more stops in 3.11 and/or Kyusyu-earthquakes affected areas. When Mao was asked about Tokyo-area stops for the new show, she answered "yes," so it'll be much easier for fans like me who live in/around Kanto area to visit the show. Smaller the troop is, footworks will be lighter.

My another thought is that the tour will go through a figure skating season. Probably it'll be difficult to invite competitive skaters when the season is serious. I guess that is why Mao is looking for several skaters to work with her for a year. (skater audition)

Anyways, Mao looks excited about her new project, so I think things are going well. Hopefully! :)

I heard the rumor too. First of all someone on twitter leaked that Mao's scheduled to a collaboration in the end of this year. And then, the person leaked again that it'll be a million selling singer from Okinawa. Maybe Amuro Namie is the one who comes to people's mind first. But Mao hasn't mentioned Amuro is her fav so far. So it's still just a rumor like @cohkaix said earlier on this thread. I heard another rumor that Mao's talking about Amuro in her new book. The book will reach my door tomorrow. So I'll check it.

Recently it's announced that another TV program will be aired in the end of this year. It'll be a talk show with Mao and Ai Miyazato (a popular golfer) who announced that she's going to retire after this season finished. I'm looking for watching the broadcast too. :) scroll down Dec 30th, Fuji TV

@binbinwinwin, the person who leaked the collaboration answered on twitter today that it's not the one who's retiring next year when the person was asked about the million selling singer. S/he added it'll give us nostalgic feelings. So, obviously it's not Amuro Namie. Anyways, the singer is not so important. After all we're excited about Mao skating in a live TV show! :cheer:

mh~ my original guess after getting the hint Okinawa was NOT Amuro Namie either. I'm curious now with the second hint that it will give us nostalgic feelings. Looking forward to Mao's skating!

BTW, here's a clip with a little bit of Mai skating 'All I want for Christmas', the number choreographed by Mao for the show Christmas on Ice. I saw the whole number in broadcasting just earlier and I like the choreography. I think Mao did a great job capturing the happiness of the song and also details in the music (and Mai is so cute performing to it). Hopefully there will be a video of Mai's performance soon.

Yes, yes, yes! Mao did a good job for Mai! Here is a clip which has the first half of the program. Mao is very good at hiding Mai's weakness (i.e. stroking) and showcasing her strength (i.e. gorgeous body lines). Above all I'm happy to see Mai's enjoying this program as well as Mai's challenging the detailed footworks. I've already watched this video for 5 times!

Compare how Mai looks a better skater in Mao's program than in the black swan she skated in THE ICE 2017.

Happy Mai's back involved in figure skating. Mao must be happy too. :)

Thank you very much for your updates! Still can't wait for it, if it'll give us feelings of nostalgia I'm sure everyone will be teary eyed. I can't wait, the only other famous musical acts I can think of from Okinawa is maybe Rimi Natsukawa or Orange Range. I'm so curious!

Mao's program for Mai is really lovely, even if it's just an exhibition I would love to see the rise of choreographers not from North America, we need more variety and influences from other parts of the world sometimes.
