Small acts of kindness make the world a better place. I had this experience today. I had to submit my painting to the agency for the art exhibit. Their office was in downtown. Normally it is no big deal to drive there, but with the on going road construction, which I was not aware of, it was hard to drive and even walk. I found what I thought was the nearest parking space on the street. I was looking for Renaissance Tower. Instead I had parked near Renaissance hotel. I went inside, still unaware that I was at the wrong place. The man at the front desk kindly told me where I needed to go. It was just a couple blocks away, but I was carrying a big painting which made it difficult, though not impossible to walk.
Suddenly, one of the hotel employees - a woman- stepped forwarded, handed me two water bottles and said "I can carry it for you." I was surprised. I said I am not a hotel guest. She insisted on carrying it for me. As we walked, I realized how difficult it would have been for me to figure out how to get there, while carrying the big painting. They had dug up just about everything around the building I was looking for. and I was confused. It helped to have someone join my search. I thanked this woman who was carrying the painting. She said - it gives me a chance to go outside. She was humble, and she guided me to the building, avoiding many areas that were impossible to cross. Once inside, I thanked her and she went back to her hotel. I took the elevator to finish my business. and turned to walk back to my car.
On my way I intentionally entered the hotel and looked for this kind woman to thank her again. I was also considering mentioning her kindness to her supervisor, if he/she was around. She was not around but two women who were working there agreed to give her my message of gratitude. They said - her name is Destiny. She certainly was my destiny this morning. I know that without her help I would have been confused, and even angry with whoever had planned the construction project. There were no warnings, directions, and cars were not waiting for pedestrians to cross the road. It was a total mess. She made it easy for me, and it was not her job.
One small act of kindness from her made my day.
