I’m not sure we’ve seen a more self-defeating power move than what Val/Kazimov’s coaches seemingly attempted in the Spanish fed. They essentially just made it much less likely they get to go to Euros next year.

my first time seeing orihara/pirenen... what a team! she seems a little better than him atm, or at least she performed better at this competition, but i have nothing to compare to. so nice to see a new, captivating team where their blade work is as/more interesting than their lifts/choreographic fw/slides/etc. that was some good quality skating and their packaging, while in-your-face didn't seem to be doing too much, ime. so much fun and so much charisma. looking forward to seeing more of them.

Oh, no, you are correct. She is better than he - his twizzles are always a 'clasp your hands and say a prayer' moment. But they are sooooo much fun and both such great entertainers. You'll love their FD tomorrow!

Yeah... I like Val/Kazimov well enough amongst the young teams who are likely to be around for at least 2030 or even 2034, but I took special delight this morning in seeing the Spanish fed and SK Ice Dance with such lovely egg on their faces. I'm guessing Olivia & Tim had a bit of a smile too.

So apparently Bas/Beau had a stumble in their FD today. Mrazeks had a fall, and Bekker fell yesterday on a twizzle.

Tis tough to move up to seniors.

Meanwhile, Fradji/Fourneaux lost to Perrier Gianesini/ Blanc Klaperm at French Junior Nationals yesterday.
PG/BK led in both segments. In the Free Dance, they also led in terms of PCS.

And beside Perrier Gianesini/ Blanc Klaperman, a second couple from Lyon Charlemagne Alisa OVSIANKINA / Maximilien RAHIER finished 3rd above Mouaden Bigot.

Now that Gailhaguet is gone, the Schoenfelder/De la Asuncion/Zazoui team is making the effort to rebuild from the younger level up.
Fine. But their teams still don't have the couple qualities or the nuances that the Villard and the Chalons teams have.

(I'm currently watching the girls ; unfortunatly the videos disapear after the live event, except when the youtube page is already opened ; and then the video really disappear a few hours later ; the dance comp was on Friday/Saturday so it's gone and VPN can't help)

B/B’s results at Canadian nationals made Skate Canada’s host picks look much more reasonable. Real missed opportunity.

B/B have a tough path infront of them. A deep national competition is going to prevent them for a while to get to 4cc and Worlds, while Mrazeks, B/H and L/Q can improve scores and reputation at Euros/4cc and Worlds (as long as the Czechs keep their 2 spots for Worlds). Then there is of course the major issue that Skate Canada doesn't send their skaters to many comps which makes it difficult to gain World ranking points to get on the GP circuit.

I don't feel like Mrazeks are having much difficulty since they finished in the top ten at their first Europeans.

B&H is a more usual first senior year, I think they will be on their way up soon.

More like Lyon sees its place as THE high level french club challenged by others' success and tries to accelerate its come back to prevent that.
But that's too late. Villard is breaking the ceiling, and Chalons will.
Long gone is the time when offended Lyon (Haguenauer then) was able to tell journalists Arribert's skaters belonged nowhere near their skaters (talking about Zoé Blanc / Pierre-Loup Bouquet beating Elodie Brouiller/Benoit Richaud at Jr Nats, oh the irony ! ).
You have to realize that good french dancers were not authorized by the fed to approach any other club than Lyon Charlemagne then. All the ice dance coaches faced that reality : Marotel, Bontemps, probably Glaise, then Arribert
And now they have Villard AND Chalons to face, two clubs with amazing coaches.
But what they still have is influence...
And the power to try.
As long as Papadakis Cizeron are the last french breakthough, they can rely to the top french success.
After that ...
