Welcome to the new dance thread, named in honor of all the promising young teams turning senior in the new season!
LOL! We need BIG hair with spiral perms a la Katarina Witt, Debi Thomas, Tiffany Chin, and every other great female skater of the '80s!Maybe we could forego the Daniela Silivas perms, however?
This is ice dance. We can't even fathom the heights (in some cases literal) the hair and costumes will reach in the next year.If no one crimps their ponytails and teases their bangs to the heavens it will be a failure on the part of the ISU just put it in the rules
Why?I just want insanely teased hair (that is basically cement with way too much hairspray holding it in place), paired with hugely puffy sleeves and that shiny synthetic fabric that was everywhere. Basically Drew Barrymore's 'Josie Gossie' prom dress in Never Been Kissed, but with bigger hair.
Because 80sWhy?

New dance team for Italy: Noemi Tali / Noah Lafornara (previously represented USA with Romy Malcolm), which means Tali / Frasca have split.
Malcolm/Lafornara (age 19)'s ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00114536.htmCanadian-born Romy Malcolm, 18, and Noah Lafornara made their JGP debut for the USA at the Solidarity Cup JGP in Gdansk (finished 9th on Oct. 1) and she has an IPS profile as of 10/16, now based in Barrie, Ontario ("I can also represent Canada and am open to representing other federations.") update - her IPS profile has since been removed
Or they could just look.at costumes and hair from 1980's skating videos.
GSD thread :not sure if this has been posted yet, but super excited about the experimental partnership between hubbell & papadakis!
At the end of the article:IDC article by Daphne Backman (April 14):
Estonia’s Solene Mazingue (20) & Marko Gaidajenko (21) had a whirlwind 2021-22 season. They relocated to Montreal in the off season and were preparing for the 2022-23 season when an accident during practice resulted in the season turning out much different than planned and Mazingue needing emergency brain surgery to save her life. Learn more about this young team’s individual journeys as well as how they’re moving forward after an unpredictable season.Mazingue & Gaidajenko: The Journey and the Miracle – Ice-dance.com

"With the large medical bills from the surgery and our federation pulling our funding for not placing high enough this season. We will not be able to afford to continue to skate."How You Can Help
As you can imagine the cost of Mazingue’s ongoing therapy is costly on its own, but coupled with training expenses the team needs help to continue fighting for their dream. You can support the team via their GoFundMe page.

Majorov has switched to Ice Dance! He says he has a partner, but no mention of who that is yet.

Milla O'Brien, 16, now lists Igor Lukanin & Kristin (Fraser) Lukanin as her new coaches in New Jersey in her IPS profile, dated today: http://icepartnersearch.com/showbio.php?i=7381Some junior dance team splits:
O'Brien / Wiederkehr - She is moving to the U.S. with her family. Both are looking for new partners.

Vainik / Barshak - He is on IPS: https://www.icepartnersearch.com/showbio.php?i=7365
Yu / Giang - He is on IPS: https://www.icepartnersearch.com/showbio.php?i=7368
Surely there's got to be some boy with Irish ancestry in New York or New Jersey to skate with her, lol.Posted by @Gris earlier this month in the 2022-23 Dance Hall thread:

She lists Ireland as her primary citizenship and says she also has passports for Switzerland (represented this season through Junior Worlds) and Finland.
Last I heard, Layla Karnes (USA/GBR dual citizenship) is still training at I.AM Ontario and looking for a partner. Some ice dance women have moved to IAM: Marianne Hubert (CAN), Kayleigh Maksymec (SUI), Maxine Weatherby (competed for KAZ, 2019-20). (Source: IG ) Doesn't appear that any of them have new partners yet, but not totally certain - maybe the IAM pull factor will help with that. Similarly Olivia Oliver (POL) now seems to be based with Zanni/Young Goose.
Let's hope they make an immediate impact next season. Things are stale at the top.Welcome to the new dance thread, named in honor of all the promising young teams turning senior in the new season!
