How long do we have to wait for GP assignments?

I think there are only two senior teams with a Top Gun RD - FBSoer and Val/Kazimov and I don't believe either have used anything from the Maverick soundtrack. On the pairs side, Plazas/Fernandez have a Top Gun FD and do use Lady Gaga - perhaps you're confusing disciplines?

Is it possible you were drinking? j/k :rockstar:
Here's the Finlandia version of the program - no Lady Gaga.

I need to go back into the Grand Prix threads because I posted about it in someones RD started out with the Lady Gaga version of take my hand. It was only for about 10 seconds then a transition to the 80s music versions, I thought it was the Canadians trying to remember who now

We are heading into Nationals season.
France has already had Ice Dance event. It was quite close between Demougeot/Le Mercier and Dupayage/Nabais with D/N being ahead in the RD.
Terreaux/Perron beat Lagouge/Caffa.

Lots of National Championships during the weekend including Germany, Austria, Four Nationals, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden are this weekend.

Looking at the panels....

In Germany, the technical specialists are 2004 Worlds bronze medalist René Lohse and Christian Nuchtern.

Four Nationals: Senior have Akos Pethes (Hungary) is the TC with Slava Grincova (Slovakia) and Anna Krytskaya (Poland, used to be Belarus).

Austria: they couldn't master a whole panel. They will have only one technical specialist (the Dutch ID champion from 2000 to 2007..and only entry at Dutch Championships in that period). The ISU judge of Cyprus (used to be from France) acts at technical controller.

Spain have Chris Buchanan (Great Britain) as TC and Amaury Druesne (France) as one of the technical specialists (the other one is Spanish).

Switzerland have Kamila Vokoun Hajkova (who competed for Czechia at Worlds and Olympic-level in the first decade of the 21th Century) as technical specialist. Former Skate Canada chair Leanna Caron (who lives in Switzerland) is the Referee.

I'm woried about Kazakova/Revia. I hope it's unfounded and we'll see them back.

Not a great season for Zanni's teams so far, between injuries, illness, twizzle failure at 4Nats, release issues, and losing out by not going to Bosphorus Cup.
What happened at 4nats?

Panels this week

Japanese Nationals' technical specialists will be Akiko Higashino (TS at 2014 and 2022 Olympics) and Nakako Tsuzuki. That's their 2 ISU TSs.
Technical controller will be Akira Sekine (who is a domestic judge and TC). Panel of judges is full of domestic judges as Japan have only 4 ISU/International ID judges (all 4 are present but one is acting as referee).

Italian Nationals will be called by Francesca Fermi (ATS at 2010 Olympics) and Marien de la Asuncion (France, competed for Japan). Technical controller will be Valeria Rosa (who is an ISU judge but she is not an international TC). Panel of judges include 3 ISU judges (Isabella Micheli, Orlandini and Bonfà), 2 international judges (Mineo and Faggioli) and 2 domestic judges. Basically, no Cesaro and Ceccattini among their top judges.

Russian Nationals are called by Alla Shekhovtseva, Olga Ryabinina and Ekaterina Rubleva.

Italian Nationals went as expected.

Some news from Michela Cesaro who was doing the commentary on the TV broadcast

Vladislav Kasinskij (of Casteller/ Kasinskij) hasn't be released yet by Bosnian Federation. The initial amount of money asked for the release was too high. Contacts between the Feds through their presidents has been going for months. Positive news are hoped in time for Egna Dance Trophy.

Andrea Tuba broke the metatarsal bone. Without Paolino/Tuba, Tali/Lafornara won easily (even with botched twizzles in the RD).

It seems like a. that selection criteria should have been established way before Nationals, but b. it would make sense to see how the teams do in a major international given that the Japanese senior teams have done very little in the way of competing internationally this season. And finally c. it would be great to see 3 Japanese teams at Four Continents, period.

A selection criteria had indeed been established before Nationals. but the results obviously "confused" JSF to the point that they could not make a decision there and then.

4CC seem the perfect stage for JSF to decide who's going to Worlds, and the "Japan skate-off" in ice dance has just made the competition more interesting.

machine translation of the announcement:
In relation to the selection of the dance couple(s) that will represent Spain in the 2024 European Championship and World Championship, the Royal Spanish Ice Sports Federation wishes to communicate:
1. That the couple formed by Sofía Val and Asaf Kazimov will be the representatives of Spain in the 2024 European Championship.
2. That the couple formed by Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck will be the representatives of Spain in the 2024 World Championship.
3. That the RFEDH is going to review the classification criteria that were communicated at the time, for which it will form a committee of experts to advise on the creation of transparent, fair criteria that leave no room for interpretation.
This decision has the acceptance of all the parties involved, to whom the RFEDH would like to thank their understanding and cooperation, in addition to providing all their support for their proper preparation for the upcoming international challenges.

Good news that each team will get one event after the messy situation. I would probably have done it the other way round though, as I think Olivia and Tim could get 2 spots for Euros. Worlds is probably a bit of a stretch?
I had the same thought. On the other hand, I'm sure Worlds in Montreal where they train will be something they really wanted, especially Olivia, since she's trained there so long. And having a longer training block before their championship may be good for S/D, as @Karen-W said in another thread. But yeah, spots-wise I do think the reverse would have made more sense for the Spanish Fed.

Yes, I'm of two minds on this... SmaDie have a higher SB and are hovering around the top 9-10 of the teams who will be at Euros, so they probably would have secured a 2nd spot had they been sent. However the past 9-10 days of this idiotic drama the Spanish fed brought on themselves has to have taken an emotional toll and since ValKaz have been training with the expectation of going to Kaunas during that whole time, perhaps it is better to send them to Euros and let SmaDie have the extra training time to really hone in on Tim's twizzles with the thought that they could really impress the judges in Montreal.

Also, let's be real... ValKaz have ZERO shot of guaranteeing themselves a GP assignment next season, whereas SmaDie could easily guarantee themselves one with a decent bump of their SB at Worlds (they're sitting at 22 right now but the next 5 teams are within 4 points of surpassing them).

All things considered, while it would be nice for Spain to get a 2nd spot at Euros for next year, if the fed was going to split the assignments because of their colossal eff-up, this is probably the better way to go.

I'm just glad I get to see Smart and Dieck again, I think they have my favourite programs for the season and match each other nicely. I am tired of eye candy disappointing Lolo in their Top Gun RD, he's just not as sharp as her, and maybe nothing else will change that. I am loving the IAM programs overall this season.

I agree with all of this. S&D have the first Elvis program I really adore. I am not generally a fan of Elvis, period, and suffered through years of Stojko's "Elvis" exhibitions in the '90s. Olivia & Tim did the impossible in my book. I'm just impatient and want them to be top-10 already. (But not at the cost of...)

Sadly agreed about Lolo & Nik. I love them so much, even when their programs are blah (this year's FD). I accept they won't be the ones pushing themselves artistically as much athletically. I think this comes through in their program choices, even the great ones (Caravan). But I wish their skating was as sharp as their athletic training would indicate. :p

It makes me think of the theme song from "The Jeffersons."

"Well we're movin' on up, to the east side
To a deluxe apartment in the sky
Movin on up
To the east side
We finally got a piece of the pie" :cheer2::lol:
