It's certainly an interesting choice and would be curious to hear what their strategy was in making it.
If it was to make a movie based FD like Smart/Diaz or Virtue/Moir did I think they picked the wrong movie.

But I also wonder if it's one of those programs that will look better when filmed by professionals to air on TV because they seemed really excited to reveal it so we must be missing something in the way it was filmed

F/G probably just need to get some audience feedback and look at how it comes across on competition ice before working on the program some more. Sometimes, having "preview performances" can do wonders for a project.

It did look like it was missing something. Its not a program I'm going to be thrilled by but I think it will look better in competition later.

It’s like they knew they wanted to skate to “Eye of the Tiger” but had no idea what else to put in the program.

Not a fan of that.

They could have (and have) done SO much better.

Agree. From social media posts earlier in the summer they seemed really happy with their programs this year so despite everything they should stay committed to it, there is a lot of time between now and Worlds.

Looked at their wiki page to see their FD history and it looks like Romain (and Sam) are their choreographers. Anyone know who is with them here? ( I was behind Romain in Montreal security the 22nd so he was going somewhere).

Based on the costumes, I think a gender-swapped version of Rocky where Lilah plays a female boxer named "Rocky" and Lewis plays her support could be a very interesting and intriguing concept. I would lean into that and maybe mix another piece not from the film Rocky to push that female boxer angle. I actually think the soundtrack from the 2000 film Girlfight would work very well, but then I think it probably deserves a program dedicated to that and not try to make it fit in the Rocky theme.

I think people are already confused enough by it -- try to mix in other concepts and pieces and the audience will be completely mystified.

Romain tends to travel with them to the UK so pretty sure he's in Sheffield

I watched this live and didn't enjoy it at all. I've watched it again and honestly my feelings haven't changed. I can't quite put my finger on exactly why but it just fell so totally flat for me. As someone who watches a lot of junior ice dance I can't help but feel like this is a theme that could be done so much better.

However - I don't like the theme. Don't understand it to be honest. A FD based on a film? Fair enough. But to me they didn't dance one bit of that. It was skating with some posing and leaning on the boards. This felt like a pairs programme with no elements. And actually I'd have enjoyed this in pairs. I think they've oddly suffered from the 80s theme in the RD because they've been forced to go beyond their usual schtick - and in the process have got themselves totally lost.

At least it'll be a real statement. I'm so bored of lazy interpretations of already-made media.

Oh man, if only LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” was released in 1989 instead of 1990. :wall:

They could have thrown that song in there too.

Missed opportunity.

Yeah, so long as it’s clear they’re boxing, I don’t think concepts will be that confusing.

This is the FD, so they could!
I kept thinking that the Rocky theme would have been better as a shorter program like a RD. Sadly, this didn't hold my attention for the full 4 min. I hate to judge so early in the season, but...

And I'm struggling to find interest in any of the 80's RDs so far. I was so excited because I love 80's music, but something is missing in the programs I've seen, and I can't figure out what it is. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the top teams material and everyone's programs with some mileage. Maybe they'll improve with age.

The choreo sequence is what absolutely kills it for me. The grabbing of the boards is lame and I really wish the IDTC had never allowed it.
I would ban the board touching - it’s hardly a challenge to skate as close to the boards as possible when you can just touch them. Idk I think this programme would irritate me less if they weren’t European silver medalists, GPF qualifiers and 4th in the world.

Honestly, I liked the Lion King program for them - it was a slightly different direction from the Disco and Madonna programs, but it stretched them beyond the pop music genre. The Gaga program, especially with the board-humping, was a step back and this program feels like another step back. Part of me also wonders if they originally wanted to have a Rocky-themed RD but couldn't make the music work, so they decided to expand it to an FD instead. Either way, it's a miss.

I hope F/G will at least take out the push ups. The rope jumping and boxing I can barely take, the push ups are too much.

I really liked B/H's FD. They have to figure out how to make their lifts work, though. They received 3 time deductions. One for the RD, two for the FD. This was already an issue in Juniors and the reason, why they didn't win Bronze at Junior Worlds. Barbara needs to give her stop watch to their coaches. ASAP!

Yes, I did enjoy Bekker/Hernandez's program - the music was a little zzzz, but pleasant enough and the choreo was, as @Wyliefan notes, full of some interesting shapes and positions.

James had an issue with his elbow a while ago so they’ve only been training their lifts for a couple weeks. I know it’s already been a recurring issue for them in the past, but they’re aware they need to fix it.

I actually really like B/H's music - but perhaps that's because I've been wanting someone to skate to this kind of Muse selection for years! They do need to sort the deductions but that straight line lift is fantastic.

I loved their FD a couple of years ago that was "Hollywood" themed with In The Mood in it - and in that they were really struggling to even do a level 4 lift so the progress they've managed to make over the last couple of years is great
