She's always had this potential since she won the British solos at age 9 with a performance full of character and showmanship. She just needed the right partner to show that potential!

Its like once you have anything innovative or an original thought, the judges poke holes in it. Once its the usual done well, the GOEs and levels shoot downwards..sigh.

Lord, what terrible grammar. Makes it sound like the fall fulfills the requirement, not the twizzles. The ISU needs some English majors on staff.

Generally ISU documents usually appear to be written in another language and then entered into Google Translate. Some parts have very long sentences with 40 digressions and parentheses. Very Italian. If they are long-standing general rules or relating to Single and Pairs, one suspects that they were written by Cinquanta (or by former ID judge Simonetta Spalluto who has been Cinquata's loyal personal assistant for years) or Bianchetti thinking them in Italian.

She has a great partner who isn't afraid to let her shine. Rare qualities in a man. The men who've revelled in this before are few. But some of my favourites are Moir, Cizeron and Poje. Nice.

They don't qualify for the Nepotism Bonus that held up Davis/Smol. Moreover, they are one of the teams that Eteri and her judges are trying hard to push down, so that they can push Davis/Smol up to the podium (later in the season). They start this process early to make it look less obvious. From here on out, Davis/Smol competition will be judged harshly (as we just saw) while Davis/Smol themselves will continue to get gifts.
 
After watching their FD I think they are using Nick's clumsiness as their out. The difference in level of skills and performance between him and Lolo is glaringly obvious. Its harder to ignore when the man is weaker. So its in their hands. I hope he'll grow over the season...I sense he's holding her back. Olivia and Tim though have great potential they are compatible. Tim looks to have the skills and generousity of character a great partnership needs. Looking forward to how these two grow in particular.
 
Well I enjoyed the Fins today. I really like this look and program for them.

FB/S - I"m not sure about this program yet. There are really good choreographed moves/sections. The lifts were spectacular especially the straightline/rotational lift - it was beautiful, emotional and effective. This programs looks "new" and I can see them changing some things up.

Christina/Anthony - I am so proud of them. They are improving, Anthony looked better here. They got the levels they needed in the RD and FD. They still need to work on goe(execution), speed and Anthony's edges.
 
Now that we've seen quite a number of choreographic rhythm steps sequences, what do you think about this element? I'm a fan of getting the technical steps done correctly (i.e. keypoints even if these were only 8 steps out of 50 or so). However, the difference in points for the corresponding levels, never rewarded the team enough for doing these steps correctly in my opinion. Now that the assigned pattern step (Samba this year) is ALL about style, flow, body line, etc. with no keypoints are we seeing a better comparison? Granted, I do like that the couple has lots of options to be creative with the mini lifts, hand holds and who does what step, so the sequences look quite different from team to team. The technical panel is checking that teams do all of the steps and a few other requirements and are calling them on it. (Anthony and Christina got dinged for not meeting all of the requirements at Nebelhorn.) Discuss.

Not that I've been keeping up with ID to even know what happened, but I would 100% say you should take this person with a grain of salt lol. Some of the stupidest takes I've seen out on twitter are from that and their side account, and their particular group of vmies and fanyus.

Yeah I don’t know much about this account but I’m not sure that they are experts - I think they’ve maybe just read the handbook? That’s why I miss flutzes and waxels so much because they had done some of the ice dance tests so were genuinely knowledgable.

They're not an expert. They don't even skate. Which is fine imo, but there's a lot of stupid shit on twitter that gets passed off as fact and their group is part of it for sure.
 
In this case though, I think the change we saw in Carreira/Ponomarenko's choreo step seems to indicate why they lost credit. I said this in the pbp and fan threads, but in there they had a section where they did chasses facing each other with windmilly/airplane arms. It probably does end up being longer than 2 measures. At Finlandia, they made sure to touch some during those, thus fulfilling that requirement. But idk that wasn't on there before that competition.

I think whoever dinged them for it (I forget who was the ref at nebelhorn) must’ve been pushing for the rule firm up and used the event to make the case which then led to the update
 
(Working my way through the Finlandia RDs).

OK, Hensen & Lickers. This program :lol: is so reminiscent of the nightmare that was the initial rendition of Hubbell & Donohue's initial hip hop program, with scads too many pieces crammed into an RD; but I do want to give H&L props for some improvement since the summer. The opening piece and the final piece--H&L are doing a much better job of embracing the cheesiness & spoof required to sell these two portions of the program. I'd propose scrapping anything serious--and uncohesive--left in it, and aiming for winning over the audience that loves material so outrageous that it's fun.
 
On the Top Gun . . .

I'm good with it. It can be added to the list of cohesive 80s RDS, and it suits Fournier-Beaudry & Sorensen's dynamic well. I do wish there was an original lift or at least a section with more original movement. (You would think that would not be so difficult to come up with for a program about a Naval aviator). But regardless, the program will be fun.

Serves me right for thinking F-B&S should do dramatic, as it's a style they do well & probably better than the other Canadian teams. Need to be careful what I wish for.

Orihara & Pirinen are totally exceeding any expectations I initially had for them.

The ! mark in Choreographic Rhythm Sequence (is it what are we talking about, right?) is also given by the technical panel.

From the Handbook for Technical Panels - How to call section:
For Choreo elements, they are identified by the TS1 [Technical Specialist 1] as:
● Identified and Confirmed-if the minimum requirements are fulfilled
● Tech Panel calls “review” if there is an error which may result in the “!” symbol.

Referee is physically sitting on another section of the panel during competitions.
Well, yes, they can informally talk during practices (ISU events also have a referee+technical panel meeting the day before the start of the competition. But it is not mandatory for CS and below IIRC). However, given that the composition of the TP at Nelbehorn Trophy was very Technical Committee-heavy (2 members out of 3), I would suspect it was the Technical Committee pushing for firming up its own rule.
