So, my theory is that while they weren't given a music deduction at Lombardia, they were told that they'd get one at future competitions if they didn't change the music, and I'm glad they made the decision to go with the original version.

Culture Club, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Human League, Spandau Ballet, Gloria Estefan, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Nene, Neneh Cherry, Soul II Soul, Sade, Stevie Nicks, U2, Pat Benatar...the 80's was such a rich decade for music!

Christina and Anthony are skating to Stevie Nicks. But I agree, so much more music choices to be had.

Looking at score difference for G/F between Lombardia and Shanghai there is a decrease in score from 84.61 to 77.14. Is that kind of drop usual between events for such a high ranking team. This is my team for this season, I am cheering them for European and World champions and I don’t want to be sat on the edge of my seat worrying about them.

Marco made a mistake on twizzles today

You'd have to compare the sheets from both events to see where the differences come from - could be a stricter technical panel, or the judges giving lower scores across the board.

Really glad G/F fixed the music issue.
I really hoped the music change would improve G/F's RD but I'm afraid it's still not it for me. The combination of "Holding on for a Hero" and "Against All Odds" is puzzling (and why edit "against all odds" to repeat the same line three times in a row, especially when they use it for barely a minute? It makes no sense). And I can't get over the costumes, not only do I feel they are too old for those costumes, but it's also full-on "Blades of Glory" inspired, and not in a good way.

I'm disappointed no one is skating to Rick Astley honestly. The opportunity to turn an RD into a RickRoll would be too funny for me not to try it personally.
Sounds like something the Shibs would have tried just because they liked their references.

Using the original "Holding Out for a Hero" is a good change and it works for the first cut, but I think it fails for the third cut. Thematically, they have a girl singing about looking for that heroic guy followed by a guy imploring a girl to take another look at him, so going back to the girl still looking for the hero just doesn't make sense and they would be better off finding a song that provides some sort of narrative resolution.

The costumes... I'm torn. On the one hand, they are campy in that "Blades of Glory" fashion and maybe don't quite seem right, but the colors are spot-on for the '80s, plus Charlene is one of the few women giving us a side-ponytail - though I'd tell her to get some extensions so that she can actually do a proper pouf in the front and crimp or spiral curl the rest of it that is in the ponytail - she needs to take a look at what Caroline Mullen has done with her hair for the RD this season.

Thanks airgelaal and skatingguy. So I can relax.

Having watched their sd at Shanghai I agree that I like the original version of holding out for a hero but not sure about against all odds and the cut back to Bonnie, although the lift looks stunning in the slower section.
A poster on you tube suggested “total eclipse of the heart” for the slow section I wonder if that would work better and I know its a bit cheeky but I would love to see them finish off with the weather girls “its raining men”, it is so upbeat and fun to finish. However I do love this team and will be cheering for them whatever they skate to.

Callers this week

Yerevan: Hal Marron (USA), Slavka Grincova (Slovakia) and Rock LeMay (Canada).

Finland: Halina Gordon-Poltorak (Poland), Marie Bowness (Canada) and Marie-Louise Gijtenbeek (Netherlands).
Halina is everywhere in the Challenger Series this season. She was the TC at Lombardia Trophy and Nepela Trophy too. And she was on the panel of judges at Autumn Classic.
Bowness was in the JGP Budapest panel. Gijtenbeek served at Nebelhorn Trophy this year.

According to Italian Fed, Paolino/Tuba's 4th place at JGP Istanbul is Italian best placement on Junior Grand Prix circuit since the 4th place of Sofia Sforza/Francesco Fioretti at JGP Mexico City 2013 (when they were 4th out of 7 couples entered).
Italy haven't won an ID medal at JGPs since Lorenza Alessandrini/Simone Vaturi's second place at JGP Dresden 2009.
The podium finally arrived with Noemi Maria Tali/Noah Lafornara, after 14 years.

Why such low marks for FB/S. Great 80s feel program..in spite of the fall they were in a league of their own...what gives....did the have very low levels on EVERYTHING? How could this score lower than whatever Dav/Smol ever do?

From the protocol, it looks like it (I haven't seen their RD yet, just the results). They lost the whole element for the twizzles and got 0 for them. Then, L1 for both of them on the diagonal step seq. and L2 on the pattern step. Couple of judges were very stingy with the GOE on the choreo seq (only giving a +1).

TBH (and I’ve always liked them) their performance fell apart after the fall. They were slower and less expressive than usual. I’m sure this is not how they will score with a clean, normal program.

The fact that D/S weren’t similarly scored has nothing to do with the Danadians and is a peculiar effect of the D/S aura.

Wow. But how do other teams get scores for twizzles when they fall? They have such rich choreography...uneven judging at its finest.

Its like once you have anything innovative or an original thought, the judges poke holes in it. Once its the usual done well, the GOEs and levels shoot downwards..sigh.

I simply cannot understand this. What D/S aura? Does this really exist? Do you mean that feeling of "when will she trip over herself or Gleb"?

I'm pretty sure (although it's been a while since I read the rules) that if you fall on the first set of twizzles (as FB/S did), you get a 0 for the element. Whereas, falling on the 2nd (like D/S did) or 3rd set is less costly - loss of level(s) and GOE, plus the fall deduction.
