At some parts it looked like he was having a difficult bowel movement lol

The most intense by the boards moment I ever witnessed was watching Tatiana Tarasova during Alexei Yagudin's short program at the 2001 World Championships. She was living every moment with him.

Many coaches are very demonstrative while standing at the boards, both in a positive and negative way depending on how their student is skating. At the 2003 World Junior Championships, Yukina Ota's coach (Mie Hamada) was cheering her own in a very enthusiastic way. But at the 2004 Skate America competition where Yukina skated very poorly, Hamada was seen and heard yelling and screaming very angry-sounding instructions from the boards.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a video if Robin Cousins at WC 1977 when he had a terrible fall and had to be carried away while the music was still playing, and he had to have surgeries after that on both his legs.
Anyone has the video? Could you please share the link?
Thank you in advance.

I was lurking on this thread and this caught my eye. I don't have a video but I remember a pro event , might have been Landover, when Denise Biellmann landed a jump and must have had a calf cramp or something because she remained in a crouched position and stood there on the ice for what seemed like a minute until Robin Cousins skated out and carried her off the ice. I think this was late 80's early 90's.

In 89 Yamaguchi was most definitely a rival to Tonya Harding. They met a few times that year had club events and Pacific Coast Sectionals. Every time Tonya would win the SP but then Kristi's consistency would come thru and she would beat Tonya in the LP. Yamaguchi skated lights out at Pacific Coast sectionals that year. Harding skated nowhere near as well at that event. By the time Yamaguchi got to Nationals in Baltimore she was most definitely a USFSA darling.

I always wondered why they sent Kristi to Worlds instead of Tonya. I didn't see the short program, but in the long program, Tonya skated great. She was really impressive and she looked great as well. She had a pretty blue costume on. I actually never understood the criticism of her costumes. Other than the white costume with gold fringe sleeves and the horrible 1994 nationals costume, her costumes were nice looking and covered her up. They didn't look cheap on television. My fave was the black costume with multicolor sequins she wore in her short at 1991 Worlds.

I also don't understand the criticism of her choreography and music choices. Everyone was skating to random choppy music. Even Jill Trenary won her world title with a mish mash of random music.

Kristi was such a tiny girl at 1989 nationals, how was she even able to see her tracings to skate great figures.

To me, the queen of random, choppy music or muzak, will always be Claudia Leistner. Her free skate at the 1988 Olympic Games must have contained about six or seven unrelated edits.

It was so fabulously awful, but fantastic at the same time.

I don't like her undergarments . . . but she did a more than respectable set of triples for her time despite her lack of speed.

This next clip is very rare and represents the earliest known TV footage of a figure skating championships. It features the 1963 and 64 World pair champion Marika Kilius as a 14 yr old with her first partner Franz Ningel. It's clear to see why they split up - she's taller than him!

Here's a great program from Yuri Ovchinnikov who skated for years as principal skater with Tarasova's Russian Allstars. This is the first of his competitive programs to surface:

Yuri Ovchinnikov - 1973 Worlds LP

And here's a real treasure - Peggy Fleming's FIRST Olympic performance in 1964!

Oh my, thank you so much for the Yuri Ovchinnikov video! It seems almost impossible to find any videos of his competitive performances online so it is super appreciated!

Lol ... Kristi never skated great figures. Kristi was 8th in figures to Tonya's 4th at 1989 Nationals. Trenary was first, followed by Jeri Campbell and Holly Cook.

... Nancy was 9th.

Wow. I'm not sure I've ever seen videos of Yuri Ovchinnikov before. His jumps were so big, even with iffy technique. That single Axel and first 3T were huge, and if he had tighter legs in the air I am convinced he could've done a 3A and a quad toe.

Holy smokes - Tatiana Tarasova in 1973 was beautiful, and absolutely rocking that hair.

A small collection of highlights of the Men's Qualifying Round at 2004 Worlds:

It's a very rare clip, and I wanted to include it in one of my articles - I guess it's more of a historical value since no TV station bothered to air the performances from the qualifying round in their entirety.

She was an artist, even then; with content and technique to match!
The fall didn't faze her at all
I think I remember reading that Peggy had the flu in Innsbruck (?)

Here coach at the time was Peter Betts, a former ice dance National Champion. I sat a couple of seats away from him at 2012 Nationals. He was accompanied by a former student that had been a novice champion.
