The ALL NEW Youtube thread!!

does anybody have youtube links to chait/sahknovsky's 1999 FD to vangelis' conquest of paradise? also a/p's romeo and juliet with chris and simon's commentary (the brits)? i just love their commentary on one of a/p's competitive outing of that program.

History could have very well named the rule attributed to Elaine Zayak to Sanda Dubravcic from Yugoslavia (more specifically, Croatia) instead a couple years earlier. And they thought Elaine did too many 3 toe loops.....

Sanda Dubravcic - 1980 Winter Olympics Long Program.

ITA and have always thought that. Elaine was waaay more balanced in terms of jumps than Dubravcic who had a really consistent triple toe and a triple sal that was wrapped and appeared once in a blue moon. (She landed a sal at 1981 Euro's for sure.) The 'Zayak' rule did so much damage to Elaine. When she won Worlds she doubled the loop so only had sals (2) and toes (4). But at least she did them from differernt entrances and in differernt combinations. But that's all people remember her for instead of the many more balanced programs she did throughout her career.

I watched the US Ladies Documentary 'Fire on Ice' again the other night and all Evy Scotvold could say was 'she had a nice triple toe'. That always gets my back up because it's frankly not true. There was much more to Elaine Zayak than one jump and he knew it.

Ok rant over

It's a good rant. ;)

Absolutely true regarding Evy Scotwold. I mean, who the hell was he as a skater? A Nada. A nothing. He's always been snarky about skaters that weren't in his stable. When he said that about Elaine, he was just being himself, an ahole.

Perfectly said bandana.
