The ALL NEW Youtube thread!!

Here's an interesting gem for those of you who like the oldies:

1973 US Nationals - Gale & Joe Furhman LP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n42SqiNoRGY&feature=PlayList&p=33F3287F9D3CB535&index=29

They finished 2nd behind the Militano's that year and went on to finish 13th in their only Worlds appearance in Bratislava the same season.
Their feet were so close together so much of the time. I loved her gentle exit from the last lift and his spread eagle into the death spiral.

Warming up for Kwanita's return to the ice, I've been revisiting some of her old performances, and I've come to realize her Red Violin at the 1999 SA pwns her Worlds-winning version in every way:

Aside from the fall on the flip and the troubled loop, this program is near perfection. Such flow, such gentleness. This program may contain the best 3T-3T ever performed (don't ever say Kwanita couldn't jump with height!), as well as the best ever 3S.

Oh, and the chic short 'do plus Sarah Hughes' awestruck look in reaction to Kwanita's performance are just extras. :)

^ I haven't watched this performance in a long time, so beautiful :swoon: I love the way she glides over the ice like its nothing, and the musicality in her choreo is so bang on - Every single movement is in time with the music (the besti squat at the end is so nicely placed with the music) and she looks so relaxed. I really miss this kind of skating

Fabulous program!! This was an amazing program. I still can't believe how in Nice she didn't receive all first place marks for her performance there nor did she get the highest tech marks after throwing down her freeskate there. Going first in the final group be damned!

Kwan had steps into 3sal, 3flip and 2nd 3lutz as well as one of her best 3toe3toes. Too bad she had to simplify the whole program for consistency by Worlds. Guess that's inevitable after the SC, GPF and Nationals outings.

Still, such thoughtful choreography and wonderful interpretation at SA.

That was a much better LP outfit than the "electrified poodle" look that she had at the Olympics, LOL. It looked like Kristi's Malaguena Olympic dress.

What in the heck was Petrenko wearing in the K&C ?

I've been watching a lot of old Worlds as I've been converting to DVD and I was struck while watching 1990 by how much better dance teams used to be at getting the "mood" right for the OSP than they are now for the OD.

Klimova & Ponomarenko had the best samba I've ever seen - their technical prowess was just remarkable.
I thought the Duchesnays were way overmarked for what they did technically, but it was a really cool samba.
Usova & Zhulin seemed to be victims to the judges' determination to reward the Duchesnays - there was a small stumble that gave the judges amunition to drop them, but I thought the program was really technically precise and well done and the stumble was very minor.
Michelle McDonald & Mark Mitchell were not as strong technically, but they had my personal favourite program.

Annette Dytrt - 2005 Worlds SP - Danse Macabre

Somehow I've missed out on seeing this but this program is INCREDIBLE, and blows Yu Na Kim's interpretation away (I know few will agree with me on that, haha). Aside from the fall on the lutz (with the  flinchy technique), this program is flawless. Incredible speed, good spins, and the best footwork I've seen in the COP-era: it's difficult, fast as hell, and actually is choreographed to the music completely.

I still don't know how I missed this one....too bad she doesn't skate much like this anymore. :(

Peppermint Patty skates like a hybrid of Dorothy Hamill with a bit of Janet Lynn. Charles Schultz and the animators did a pretty accurate job at depicting all the elements. Charles was inducted to the USFSA Hall of Fame if I recall.
