The Alexandra Trusova Cheer Thread! Quad Queen with Super Hair!

Women’s free skate press conference report by rockerskating on twitter.

Trusova: I did do 5 quads - it took me a long long time to achieve this, so I'm really happy with my performance.

Trusova [about her comments earlier]: For the past 3yrs, I haven't won anything - any important competitions. I was trying to explain this - I was trying to achieve lofty goals, and have more quads. When I did it, I thought I would win. That's how it is.

Her FS is posted on ESP YT channel.

Thrilled for Sasha’s five-quad program and the silver medal. Face forward, to Worlds in Montpelier and beyond! If minimum age is raised this summer, the world will be her oyster. 🦪

Sasha did great today and I hope she will come to the terms with it and I will cherish her silver medal.
Someone should remind her that Nathan didn't even medal at IE at his first Olympics ;)

Thanks. How sad, I hope she keeps skating and realizes all she has achieved.
I think so. That was right after the skating was done. Emotions are high in that moment in such competition, and given the circumstances double that. The girl has muscles (as in physically) and if she is healthy I think she can last longer than other girls we've seen in the past.

This was a brilliant and gutsy skate worthy of her medal. I hope she stays in.

I hope she has learned that you do have to strategize and optimize your jumps, not just try to maximize them. I think that's what cost her, not that she should be anything but proud of her Silver.

Definitely she should find a coach who will work with her on that.

I personally think Trusova deserved the gold, although I understand the result, but I would have had her winning. I hope she can feel proud of this and this accomplishment in time. She did amazing, and 5 quads on Olympic ice, wow. I wish they had included her in the Team Event so they could be the first trio in history who all have a gold. That would be incredible.

It's a bit bittersweet. I don't find Anna's program or artistry great. But this program of Trusova's if all five quads were jumped cleanly and with authority, she should have won. I think it was just too much for her and she exploded. a slap in the face. I find it strange though that they didn't at least give her a chance in the Team Event as well. It's just all very harsh and sad.

This. (y) I'm not a big fan of Anna's Free Program either. I think it was the weakest of all the top 5 ladies (and more), in terms of choreography etc. But I think the result in the end was fair when you consider both programs. Sasha won the FS but Anna also delivered (100.49 TES), which brought a tie in TES basically (SP+FS). At that point, the PCS were going to make the difference and we all knew - including Sasha, despite her feelings at the moment - that Anna has the edge there. In order for Sasha to win she would've had to be flawless in all her technical elements and gain more points with the GOE, but she wasn't flawless. Although, don't get me wrong, her performance was impressive and she did make history.

She had some negative GOEs (2 red dots and a few yellow). The step out of 4t was obvious. I will have to rewatch to see where else she lost points. Still it was a performance to be proud of. It came up just short. The six points deficit in the SP was massive. The difference in TES between her and Anna was about 6-7 Points. Anna had higher PCS. It was close. It must be disappointing to lose after such a great performance but Sasha should be very proud of what she has accomplished, not just today but in the last 3-4 years. She is the reason women are doing multiple quads in their LP. Right now those are only Russian but others will follow. She has changed the sport for women forever. It is not about just one event. This is a much bigger achievement. I hope she can see that.

I checked the protocols and she has a 4F (!) but positive GOEs. 4T, 2A+3T and 4Lzq (q) have negative GOE's. Anna has all positive GOEs. Plenty of 2 from the Austrian judge but she received mostly 3 and 4 from the other judges.

She lost then fair and square. She will pull herself together soon enough, she's just a little entitled as most teenagers are.

EDIT: Have not watched any of this. Don't know if I will.

In Russia unfortunately the glory and prestige goes to the golden ones.

Fair enough. Girl was just having hissy fit.

I hope she has longevity. I want to see her compete for many years and be at the next Olympics to have another shot at the Gold (either in team or individual, or both). Plus I just love seeing her skate, and how she keeps pushignt the envelope for technical skating.

Russia using 0 subs in the Team Event with the embarassment of riches and talents they had was a disgrace IMO.

Yeah. At the moment I was a bit harsh with her for her reaction. Then, I remembered myself at her age during the Art school. Oh boy....:drama::slinkaway:lol:

Agreed. This goes both for Ladies and Pairs.

It just sucks because it was never going to be the viral moment without an audience. And with the Kamila thing it wasn't going to be appreciated as an athletic effort. I am sure Sasha and Anna suffered too, in a different way. I read they had additional blood and urine testing, which they passed. It must have been stressful for Sasha knowing if she did the five quads everyone will say she doped.

But she did it! She did what we hoped for since Russian test skates. Not perfect but darn good. I hope to find a version with Russian commentary. I hope she is proud and doing OK. Her emotions were so raw.

I totally understand her blowing up afterwards. I'm sure in part it was letting go after they all were under such pressure and scrutiny for days, but of course after such an extraordinary skate she has to feel "what do I have to do?" The color of the medal takes nothing away from it, but of course no one skates for silver.

We got 2/3 of the showdown we had hoped would happen in Beijing and it was as extraordinary as hoped.

I hope Trusova will be able to proud of what she accomplished and want to come roaring back for more.

I am sure she will be back. She is not a quitter. I agree about her letting the steam out.

She has been negative on the Eteri girls since well before the scandal.
Still, no excuses for what she wrote. This is not just about Eteri and unless she knows something the rest of the world doesn't, she was accusing two skaters for doping who just won without any evidence. This isn't right even if it came from a reporter, which I would expect, let alone a skater. She should know better. Not to mention that her reasoning didn't even make sense.

This situation hasn’t been easy for any of the skaters, I don’t think it was necessary or helpful to tweet what she did. I understand why people are angry but pointing the finger at them at this stage may (persevered) solidify rather than diminish the position of those who let the support down

Sorry why would you think she deserved gold, under what criteria exactly? I am actually genuinely curious. What pcs would you be giving her in the free and what about the short where she fell too? I having nothing but admiration for her, she's an absolute phenomenon and is responsible for pushing the sport forward technically but it's a bit jarring when a handful say she should have won, when there is absolutely no way she deserved gold. Had her pcs been correct she would have been closer to the bronze medal. Nothing in her skating is gold medal worthy apart from her jumps. Not the spins, not the basic forward/backward skating, not footwork and certainly not the composition of the programs, that is essentially skating in straight lines from one jump to the next.
Her meltdown was heartbreaking to see and if she was better surrounded, her staff would have ushered her somewhere more quiet, rather than in public view.

Although I love Anna she has a lot of pre rotations that aren't called for one thing. Although in fairness to her they didn't seem as bad as normal these Games, I need to rewatch the performances still.

And lets be real, given how judges score PCS Trusova's aren't going to ever be much lower than they are. The PCS some want to see her getting are lower than they score some of the bottom feeders of the field. PCS is ridiculously clumped as it is.
