Thanks! I thought this was a really good, engaging conversation among Adam, Gus Kenworthy and The View's Sara Haines.

Adam will be featured in ESPN magazine's The Body issue (June 25th on ESPN's website) - a first look: https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/1st-inside-sexy-espn-magazine-body-issue/story?id=55911557

He is in Phoenix tonight for the WNBA Mercury's Pride Night: https://www.azcentral.com/story/spo...ppon-headline-mercurys-pride-night/704159002/
At halftime, Rippon will take the court for a Q&A session, which will be moderated by Mercury Vice President and Basketball Hall of Famer Ann Meyers Drysdale. In addition to that, the Mercury will be making a donation to Rippon's LGBTQ youth initiative campaign with GLAAD. GLAAD is an LGBTQ media advocacy organization, one of the largest in the world.
This is the Mercury's fifth annual Pride Night, as the organization has worked to deepen its roots with the LGBTQ community.
...
"What they’ve done is so incredible that they’re really been at the forefront of a lot of LGBTQ issues," Rippon said. "I’m so excited because some of the girls on the team are out-women, who are married and have families, and they’re such great representatives of the LGBTQ community, so to be a part of this and to be there for Pride Night is so awesome."

In The Guardian article linked/excerpted on the previous page (post #836), Adam alluded to a recent conversation he had with Billie Jean King -- it was published online today, titled "Without Billie Jean King, Would We Have Adam Rippon?": http://www.papermag.com/billie-jean-king-adam-rippon-2579457610.html

"We invited the two trailblazers together for a cross-generational conversation about the rise of queer acceptance, the relief of coming out and why it's important to understand history in order to move forward."

Another freshly published interview, in CQ: https://www.gq.com/story/adam-rippon-real-life-diet

Focused on training & diet, so the questions (and answers) are different than in a lot of the interviews lately.
It seems weird to say this, but it sounds like Olympic training... was easier?

Oh my God, training for the Olympics was luxurious in comparison. It was also something I had trained for my whole life, so I knew what I was doing. I was comfortable and confident. Dancing with the Stars was something I had never done before. I’ve always worked with movement and music, but going into dance was like learning a foreign language, where someone teaches you the words but you still don’t know what you’re saying and you’re just repeating what you’ve heard. I can speak the language of skating. I might be able to say the words in dance, but I still didn’t really know what I was saying.
Also, we get Adam's special taco recipe... (Should I try it? Sounds fairly interesting)
It’s funny, sometimes I’ll crave some of those silly things I would make that were super low-calorie but delicious, though. Like a pickle taco—I would put Cholula on a flour tortilla, and fill it with arugula and a few slices of pickle in the middle. If you don't have Cholula, you can spread hummus on there, too. I’m telling you, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever had, and it’s about 150 calories.

That sounds... pungent. Like it’s got a lot of punch to it.

I’ve got a lot of punch to myself, so it makes sense.

Rippon told the magazine: “I couldn’t have done this [shoot] while I was in the closet. I think that, with my experience of coming out, I felt so liberated in so many ways.I don’t want to say I’ll never be in this shape again, but I’ll never be in this shape. I’ll be in another shape. This is a milestone of all the work it took me to get to the point to be an Olympic medal-winning figure skater.”

Question for you guys - was Adam wearing at least some type of minimal thong during the skating shots? Just thinking about how his bits might have been contained while spinning as I can't imagine that it would have been comfortable to have all that centrifugal force pulling on his manly parts. :slinkaway

Nope, I don't see any thong. But looking at the "behind the scenes" video, it doesn't look like he was doing any jumps -- or at least not multirotational jumps -- and he probably wasn't doing any spins on full speed either, to avoid issues with dangly bits (and jump face).

ETA: Oh I see Adam's photo shoot made it to Daily Mail. I have a browser extension that redirects me to cute cat gifs if I accidentally click on a Daily Mail link so I haven't read the "article", but anyway, here's the writer's tweet (containing the DM link) that's admittedly somewhat funny:
When browsing this story I wrote about Adam Rippon and his amazing ESPN Body Issue photo shoot, please try to read at least *some* of the words?

Hmmm - I don't know. IME it's hard to get into a layback (or sit) position without speed because the centrifugal force actually serves as an assist. But then again, I was never in Olympic athlete shape so maybe it would be possible for Adam.

I wonder if he was on actual ice or plastic ice. If actual ice, brrrr..... :cold:

^^ Having given this Very Important Issue more thought... Maybe they use body glue in photo shoots like this?

Anyway, Adam tweeted:
The ESPN Body Issue comes out on Monday and I’ve never been so nervous and excited to see my own butt

Yep, at one point a thong is visible around his waist, when they pull out to show the artistic director viewing the footage...

I don't think he needs to get to top speed to get into the layback. I remember being :swoon: :inavoid: with his superfast gorgeous laybacks at Nats, and they were MUCH slower when I saw him at Stars on Ice. (I joked to my sister that his laybacks were not as much of a religious experience when he's only had 2 hours' sleep!)

I'm also guessing it was plastic ice, otherwise they would have had to move all the studio equipment onto a rink and that seems like a lot of unnecessary trouble when they just want him to pose in one spot.

Doesn't plastic ice slow skaters down in general? He also doesn't look like he's in full layback position either, he usually gets more horizontal than that.

I'm not sure but in one of the captions it listed some ice arena so I think they may have actually been on the ice.

^ Yeah, the caption says "Adam Rippon is photographed by photographer Mark Seliger at The Rinks Lakewood in Lakewood, California on Tuesday, March 27, 2018."

I rewatched the video... :fan:
...and I still don't see a thong.

Are you sure it's not a shadow, like in this attitude mag pic? :COP:

LOL at this thong discussion but hey, it's off-season! :p

 The thong is difficult to see because it's meant to not be visible for the shoot probably. But I can tell by looking very closely. There is a line visible at Adam's waist when the director of the shoot is reviewing the monitor. You could always ask Adam directly regarding whether a thong was utilized during the shoot, and see what he replies in return. :p

I'm laughing a little because I just looked at the AOL Build interview with Adam and Jenna Johnson. Adam was joking at one point about being asked to bulk up by DWTS, so he was eating a lot of burgers. Therefore, his bod is not in the svelte tip-top shape he was in that was required for figure skating. Still, yum, he's still looking very good. :encore:

The online version is out and there's also a 2 min interview video (and no, I still don't see a thong, just muscles and shadows. It's a mystery!!!): http://www.espn.com/olympics/story/...oming-competing-highest-level-body-issue-2018

There are of course some really great quotes
My physique is 90 percent nurture. I did an ancestry DNA test, and I'm like 90 percent Irish. Those genes are heavily favored for potato picking. I don't think there were many figure skaters.

ETA: more pics (semi-NSFW because no thong and now I'm quite sure about that btw)

ESPN got some decent material out of Adam. I like when you get something other than ISU-USFS-happy talk. One picture of Adam that is undeniable is what a strong person he is. He turned himself around to become one of the US's most reliable competitors. Here, we see how he really worked that broken foot to make the most of a difficult situation. No need to talk about masculinity. He's a tough guy in anyone's book.

I read this opening sentence of your post and immediately clutched my pearls and was like "WHUT? Just 'decent'? Those pics are FINE and he looks FINE! How DARE you suggest otherwise!" :revenge: :drama:

... until I kept on reading & realized you were in fact talking about the interview they conducted
Yep, agreed, it's a decent one!

It is just amazing to see what a mini celebrity Adam has become! Just imagine if he had not been named to the Olympic Team after being 4th at Nationals, would this still be happening for him. It is interesting to wonder.
