^^^ The radio show was a really fun listen! :D The host, Elvis Duran, pledged a $20,000 donation to the Trevor Project in honor of Adam & Jenna (around the 16-minute mark of the show; eta some photos from the studio: https://twitter.com/ElvisDuranShow/status/999276473528840192 ). Adam and Gus Kenworthy will be co-hosting the TrevorLIVE New York fundraiser in NYC on June 11: https://ny.trevorlive.org

Adam also chatted on Sport Illustrated's "SI Now" for about 5-6 mins. (published today, taped yesterday): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dat2utoZ1K0&t=6m44s
Adam and Jenna were on Kelly and Ryan this morning, and Adam told his funny story about his mom being mistaken for Kelly:
The show has uploaded their segment to their official YT channel in 2 parts - dancing a reprise of their Jazz routine in the studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLjnSoB9Cx4
Quick chat afterwards (Adam's Kelly Ripa/Rippon story): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97AcnSOm4Qc

Their media photo shoot at the Empire State Building yesterday: Getty Images (10 photos)
Video of them being photographed ;): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMI1WFCayxI

Came across this 2-minute "paparazzo" interview on a NYC street yesterday by Adam Glyn (self-described on Twitter as an "Independent street journalist by day. Stand Up Comic by night.") who sold his video to The Blast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_zY1fPaHrw

I found this interview well worth the read. Some insightful questions, with thoughtful answers from Adam.

Adam Rippon opens up
Thanks for posting this! An excerpt:
Compared to the many skating coaches you’ve worked with, how do you rate Jenna as a coach?
I think Jenna is one of the best teachers I’ve ever encountered. I’ve worked with a lot of amazing skating coaches, but to see the way that Jenna broke it down for me and also really challenged me at the same time speaks volumes to the kind of teacher she is. And how patient she was with me also speaks to how incredible of a person she is too.
Are you going to have Jenna choreograph a skating program for you?
We’ve already talked about it and I think when the opportunity comes for me to get a program together, Jenna is going to be the first person I call because I’ve had such a great time doing things with her on the floor that we’ve got to take it to the ice.
What does your dancing future look like – could you see yourself pursuing a role on Broadway?
I don’t know. I think it’s something I never really thought about much but I enjoy performing and I feel like it’s something that I need to do in some capacity. I told Jenna I’ve had such a great time learning how to dance that I think, recreationally, I really want to take classes and keep going with it. It’s just been so much fun and it’s a great way to challenge yourself.

Day 2 of their two-day NYC media tour continues later today with:
Adam & Jenna will do a BUILD Series appearance on Wednesday in NYC: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/adam-rippon-jenna-johnson-tickets-46212963217
To be live streamed at 5 pm: https://www.buildseries.com

ETA that Adam & Jenna mentioned in one of their interviews yesterday that the Argentine Tango was one dance they would have enjoyed doing on DWTS (I would have liked to see them dance that!).

This is the one I really wanted to see. They didn't do any kind of tango this season, which was a real shame. But maybe they'll bring Adam back for an "all-star" season at some point? I'd really like that.

Leigh Blickley (Huffington Post) will be interviewing Adam & Jenna soon for the BUILD series (is he running late again? ;)).

ETA:

I enjoyed this interview because 1) the mutual affection and admiration they have for each other really shone through ( https://twitter.com/BUILDseriesNYC/status/999401305696296961 & https://twitter.com/BUILDseriesNYC/status/999407490130464769 ) and 2) especially Adam's impassioned, inspiring monologue at the end about wanting to help other people: "... the more you give, the more you get... You really attract the energy that you put out... When we help each other, we're helping ourselves." :encore:

3 clips have been posted - Jenna: https://www.buildseries.com/video/5b05e856c269d62143543304/
Adam: https://www.buildseries.com/video/5b05e856868e8001c0cf03cc/
Both: https://www.buildseries.com/video/5b05ea967ee6070496a0fc4e/

Full interview will be up later (eta that it's 37 mins.): https://www.buildseries.com/video/5b05e856d900854e5ab3c528/
Also on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNloqiQmRd0

More from Wednesday - Adam sat down with Mic's Evan Ross Katz (their 15-minute conversation/YT video is embedded in Katz's article): https://mic.com/articles/189549/dan...nt-have-a-male-partner-on-the-show#.n4kbx3ItI

Yahoo! Lifestyle article that includes quotes from Adam's BUILD interview and more: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ada...nes-hearts-boyfriends-included-000304456.html
As we roll into June — Pride month across the country and in many cities around the world — Rippon reflects on the importance of celebrations that come with it. “Pride month is a great time for us to learn about our gay history — to learn about what others did before us that made our path a lot easier,” he says. “I think it’s an important time to just embrace who you are, embrace being queer. A lot of times we kind of feel less than, or different, and it’s a great time to remember that we’re awesome and we’re strong.”
While the gaymous Rippon is not exactly sure how he’ll personally celebrate Pride yet or where he’ll be making official appearances (though there will be some, to be sure)
One official appearance is noted in the post above.

Adam is so sweet! From an event he had in Arizona: https://www.instagram.com/p/BjQQro2l-ns/

@adaripp finished the ⭐️’s Tour , won the Mirror Ball , red- eyed to NYC , interviewed and appeared on every show possible and still managed to fly to Phoenix to skate with Ava in her learn to skate show - because he promised to . No surprise people ❤️him . Top man 👍🏼

It also appears that Adam was able to meet up with Max Aaron (who is now working for the father of the girl in the photo above) while in Arizona because Max has a photo of Adam's Mirrorball trophy in his IG story. :)

You know you're deep in skating fandom when you read google translated sentences like "one unsuccessful hire at random. One strange, incomprehensible rental" and "I can not jump the sheepskin coat since I broke my leg" and it all makes perfect sense to you.

Interesting tidbit:
- Adam, tell me, did not you ever think of writing a book about your experience? After all, you have enough of it.
-A: I've thought about this a lot. I really want to write a book, and already consulted about this with some people. Gradually I gain knowledge about what this process consists of, and how to assemble all the components into one. In a word, I hope that in the next few weeks I will have a substantive conversation with concrete people in order to start the realization of the plan. And maybe in a year or two ... Usually it takes about a year to publish, but I'm already sure that I'm ready to begin.

ETA: Adam's Oly short is now on YT... at least for the time being

New 4 min interview about DWTS and dance videos:
Adam Rippon Shares His Thoughts On Some Of The Most Iconic Dance Music Videos

Plus some Pride month stuff:

Adam Rippon's Pride Month Playlist: Kim Petras, Dua Lipa, Rita Ora & More (billboard.com)

Skating with Pride: Adam Rippon (online mag, scroll to p. 32 for Adam's interview)

ETA: I don't want to derail any GSD threads so lemme use this thread to express how bummed I am that Adam is done with competitive skating now that ISU finally did the right thing and legalized men in tights. I'm 100% sure Adam would've taken advantage of that rule change ASAP and I'm not that sure that any other male skater will next season (except maybe Cizeron). *wistful sigh*

He's not saying the "R" word just yet, but the writing is on the wall...

Adam Rippon says he’s unlikely to compete in figure skating again
So basically, there remains a faint possibility that he'll compete in Japan Open (or some one-off comp like that) at some point in the future like Jeremy Abbott did in 2017 but... probably he'll be too busy doing other projects. But I'm sure his legacy of ripponed jumps and tight mesh shirts on men will live on so cheers for that! :40beers:

ETA: On a related note...
Ashley's latest IG post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bjxe--ygRdU/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=s9731on3ufo8

Sounds like she intends to move on from competitive skating. I hope she finds a path she enjoys as much as she has enjoyed competing.

^^ Yes, that last bit of news is being discussed in the Ashley Wagner thread.

I'm really happy for Adam. Right now it seems like he's on a roller coaster. But I think he's prepared for the wild ride because he's got his head on straight. He realizes how he got where he is and the truth of what he's all about underneath the hype and the busy clamor. That's important.

Adam's trajectory sort of reminds me of Meghan Markle in the sense that she was always this savvy, passionate, remarkable person worth knowing and being friends with. But it wasn't until she began dating Prince Harry that the whole world suddenly wanted to know her. When I read about her and found out the truth of who she is, I realized that her star was always shining, despite most people not noticing until she suddenly gained more visiblity. The same for Adam. He was always a star worth knowing. He went through a trial by fire, took stock and understood he needed to not be afraid of being himself in order to be able to express himself on the ice and be a strong competitor. A similar 'trial by fire' experience happened for Meghan after years of going on auditions and struggling to make it as an actor. A light went off in her head and she began to apply what she learned from a wise casting director who told her: "You are enough." She didn't get the job on that audition, but she learned an invaluable lesson.

So when fame hits, it's crucial to already know who you are, what you want and what you are about. Otherwise, there's a danger of being tempest tossed and buying into the hype. Already knowing yourself and being at peace with who you are helps you not to be blinded like a deer in the headlights by all the 'extra' stuff. You can cut through the bs when you have a laser focus. And yet still fully enjoy each exciting moment, like Meghan did walking down the aisle in St. George's Chapel toward her new life. She wasn't visibly nervous -- she seemed calm and full of grace. Like Adam enjoying the process of coming back from his broken foot. He wasn't anxious about it. In fact, Adam embraced the process of recovery and rehab. He knew with a certainty that he'd come back stronger, and he did. And when his moments came to take center ice at the Olympics, he overcame any latent nervousness and seized the opportunity to shine and be himself.

:D

From the end of Lynn Rutherford's article (linked in post #832):
... Competitive figure skating is most likely off of the table, although he’s not ready to slam the door shut just yet.

“I’m going to be a huge cheerleader for all of my friends competing next year,” Rippon said. “My experience at the Olympics was so incredible, and I think everything I ever wanted it to be. The time is right for me to step aside from all of that. I’m not saying full retirement yet but probably will shortly. I want to think about it, I haven’t even seen (coach) Rafael (Arutunian) but maybe once or twice. I have a lot to think about and it’s all incredible and all awesome.”

^^^ Thanks! Adam and Gus Kenworthy are co-hosting the TrevorLIVE New York fundraiser gala in NYC tonight: https://ny.trevorlive.org

Adam is featured in an article in The Guardian today: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...ce-skater-adam-rippon-on-taking-on-mike-pence
Excerpts:
“I always think it’s so funny that somebody like me could kind of catch on, especially now,” he says. “I think I’m just not who you typically would think would be a star from the Olympics.” His most important work, he says, has been with the Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to young LGBTQ people. “I asked myself: what did I want to do? How can I help other people?” he says. “And it makes me think about the people who have come before me, what they’ve gone through. I got to have this amazing conversation with Billie Jean King and she told me about when she was outed, how her career suffered and spiralled out of control. And so I thought, if I’m given this platform and I can get to engage with so many people, what can I do to help other people so that they don’t need to go through what I went through as a kid?
“I think that there is somewhat of a stigma that [suggests] if you are a figure skater, you’re just gay anyway,” he says. “As a kid I got teased for being gay just because I was a skater, before I even knew what being gay was ... I think that there are a lot of people that are afraid for their sons, or boys who are afraid to get into skating because they don’t want to get made fun of or teased. That pushes a lot of people from sharing that they’re gay.
“I don’t think anybody has a responsibility [to come out]. There’s no such thing. I think it’s completely up to the individual themselves and the timing and whatever. For me, it was important to be out and competing at the same time.”

The night ended with a lively medley performance by Rita Ora, who sang hits like "I Will Never Let You Down," "Anywhere" and her latest single, "Girls," for which the case of VICELAND's "My House" joined her onstage.
